Question about Spain's and Korea's human names...

Sorry for my bad English, I'll try to explain it good...

I found the page where Himaruya puts the "humans" names for the Hetalia characters... It's here (japanese)

I noticed that Antonio Fernández Carriedo would be Antonio Hernández Carriedo
アントーニョ・ヘルナンデス・カリエド

...lol! Always was written as Hernández (I say at Pixiv, for example) in japanese, but I think isn't Fernández, because FEliciano and FElix are written with フェ as FE, while Antonio's surname is written ヘ　instead of フェ. So, Why did he changed it, if the FE of Fernandez has the same pronunciation as Feliciano and Felix  *shrugs*.

Anyway, ヘ sounds like the He in "Hello" (and like "Je" in Spanish), so, and the surname "Jernández" doesn't exist XDDDDD... I don't know why did he messed it so XD. But Heracles also has the ヘ (in my language the H is not pronounced there, so it would be "Eracles") for that I think it should be Hernández (the h is not pronounced, like the spanish version of Heracles)...

And the name of Korea isn't Im Yonsu... it's LI (Lee) YONSU (Yong soo) Wow! ( 韓国：リー・ヨンス )


EDITED: I found at the wikia and it's written アントーニョ・フェルナンデス・カリエド (Antonio Fernandez Carriedo), I put it at pixiv and appears at "valid" too, with the アントーニョ・ヘルナンデス・カリエド (Antonio Hernandez Carriedo, like Himaruya put in his site)

Well, whatever.

Why ヘ instead of フェ? Because of our pronunciation. Sometimes the F gets lost and it sounds pretty soft, but Italian people don't do that. At least, that's how it sounds to me, I have studied classic Latin for 5 years and my teacher always told me that.

And about Greece-san, it's because of classic Greek. You write "Heracles" with a special sign (called "soft spirit") which makes the name written with an H. But it doesn't sound, actually.

About Korea's name... You're right, it says "Lii Yonsu". I don't really know why it was translated like "Im Yong Soo". We'll have to keep guessing XD

Sometimes the sound ヘ doesn't sound "je" (in Spanish). Sometimes it sounds simply like an "e" (in Spanish).

When you say, in Japanese, "To China", you say "Chugoku e" but you write "Chugoku he". That can explain a little bit more. Maybe it's not Fernández, it's Hernández. Who knows.

Mhhh.... Since I'm from Argentina, the Spanish of spain might be a bit different. If I say Feliciano or Fernández, the Fs have the same pronunciation always...BTW, I've never pay attention to the F pronounced by someone from Spain (The difference is more notable in the S, Z, C, B and V)...

And I know the H since I speak spanish, but in Japanese, the HE is like our JE and sometimes could sounds like a really soft F (like the Fu, that could be written Hu)... So Jeracles, or Jernández O_o

You might have a point there. I'm kind of indecisive about Spain's surname, because the "he" sounds sort of like a soft "fe", but I'll keep guessing until Himaruya-sensei decides to write it in romaji. xD

Korea's name is clearly Lee there, but in the Wiki it says that later on the name became Im. I can't find the original Japanese text anywhere, though.

Also, you might want to tag your post before a mod comes along.

Yes, but in Spanish the FE of Fernandez has the same pronunciation of the FE of Feliciano... and Feliciano is written with "fe" in katakana instead of "he" the soft "fe"...

The thing about the names is that Himaruya probably just kinda made them up without that much thought and actually removed the names later on from his site which explains why you cannot find them. He probably most likely made them up more to satisfy the fans and really hasn't referred to them since. I mean, none of the newer characters have names.

I wouldn't debate too much about it anyways. The older names are too far widespread to be changed now and the fanbase has really grown since then. Too much work. Unless some official English release appears with their human names, we're not gonna get very far.

Fernandez and Hernandez are two differents surnames . If Himaruya wrote Hernandez is like he said in this case the "HE" sounds like a "E" in spanish

Yup, but the Romaji version says Fernández.... So, I don't know... Maybe the mistake isn't from Himaruya, but the person who wrote it in romaji...

If you sound out the Japanese it's fe-ri-shi-aa-no. But Feliciano is an Italian name and I thought that "ci" was always read as "chi" in Italian(not a speaker). So technically isn't the katakana for Feliciano also wrong?

It's true! I always thought in that case, since his surname Vargas is Spanish, his name is pronounced in Spanish too (The C with an I sounds like Zi or Si, depending of the accent)

That could be true. But still you can write that in katakana as スィ if you were to pronounce it in the Spanish/Portuguese way. I guess that usage is not as common yet.

If you want to say "si", you can use "シ”。Sure the romanji for it is technically "shi", but imo it sounds more like a blend of shi and si- similar to how the "r" sound in Japanese is a blend of "r" and "l" in English.

You're right!
But there's more...
"ci" in Italian is read as "chi"
BUT
If you have a word with "cia" (ci + vocal) is read as "cha" and not "chia". In other words, the "i" isn't pronunced.
For example: "Ciao!" is pronunced "chao" and not "chiao".
So, Feliciano must be read as "Felichano"

In the name Lucia (for example) the i sounds ^^ (Lu-chi-a) I know, since I went to Italy, to Santa Lucia, Venezia... So, would be Felichiano... If I'm not wrong, the rule is when are three vocals together, the I isn't pronounced, like Ciao (Chao)
