[scanlation] China and Shinatty-chan

A quick scanlation of the story between China and the lovely Shinatty-chan:

This comic is based on this article.

■ I guess we can't win against Mei Guo after all-aru ■

■ Japanese Kitten ■

■ Fake ■

Saying "aiyaaa" is kind of cute.

** Original author's words end here**

Translation notes:
* China ends his sentences with "aru", which is a kind of Chinese stereotype that Japanese have. I didn't know how to translate this to English without making China sound like Yoda or something so I left it as it is.
* The first link that himaruya-sensei posts is about a Chinese amusement park full of copyright-infringing cheap knockoffs of famous characters. The second is a funny link about how Chinese people have different ways of saying "aiyaaa" to suit any situation and say it all the time (is this true? ahaha;;)
* Kitty-chan is what the Japanese call "Hello Kitty".
* Shina is a kind of offensive way to say "China". Therefore Kitty-chan has become Shinatty-chan.
* Mei Guo = how to say "USA" in Chinese, I think. I don't speak a word of Chinese, so correct me if I'm wrong. OTL And in the title of the second comic they use the Chinese reading for "Japan" (日国), but I don't know how to say that in Chinese so I left it as "Japan" (someone heeeelp OTL)
* AIYA━━━━━(゜Д゜;)!!

Thank you for reading~. China is adorable.

I LOL'D. XDDD

Actually, in Chinese "Japan" is 日本/ri ben XD;;; 国/guo is just a general term for nations/countries/kingdoms/LARGE POLITICAL STATES aru.

THERE WAS ALSO THE ONE WHERE YAO WAS ON THE BENCH AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE NOT-REALLY-SHINATTY -- ahem. China's so unassuming. D8 It's really adorable.

AHAHAHAHA. orz

"Aiyaa!" = "Oh no!" in Mandarin. Although "aiyo" sounds something far more SE Asian (read, possibly Singaporean since we are infamously known for butchering proper language ;A;). "Aiyo" = "oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!" aru

::pats!:: No, no, you did fine! I have a feeling it was Himaruya who got things a bit mixed up. Not that it really matters because either way people will probably understand that you're referring to Japan if "ri guo" is used. XD;;;

Thanks for scanlating again~

And yep, aiyah can be used in...nearly any situation. XDDD;;; It can be a rebuke, a curse, a groan, an exclamation etc aru

In my experience, if there's any word Chinese people tend to end sentences with, it's lah. Or leh. :'D Aru is just... weird. Aiya~

It's funny because it's so true. It's about time someone said something about it...

Thanks for the translation =D Aiyaaaa, China is so cuuuuuuute! ... I really miss the times when I used to say "Aiya"... mum still says it though XD

Oh I'll straighten that face out for you if you like, Belgiwaffles. WITH MY FIST-aru~ *cough* gah! No! Not cute at all!

[identity profile] chairman-yao.livejournal.com 2008-08-21 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
Haha! China you DORK! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS, I've been waiting for some China to be scanlated - I knew he had a fixation on cute things but this, wow. Shinatty-chan <3.

That whole -aru thing, I really can't think of an english equivalent. Which is why I dropped it entirely when I started RP-ing China, but reading it now... it's so charmingly bizarre I sort of regret it. Mandarin style-aru!

[identity profile] starshards.livejournal.com 2008-08-21 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
美国- Meiguo, meaning 'Beautiful Country', aka America, so you are entirely right. ♥
日本 as someone else said is 'Riben' which means 'rising sun'.

LOL, not that I can read much Chinese, despite living in Tianjin for half a year. xD;

Thanks for this hilarious comic. You're a legend.

Finally! ILU scanlators><
I accidentally discovered a while ago that "-aru" actually has more history to it than I thought. According tothis Wiki page (http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%8D%94%E5%92%8C%E8%AA%9E), "-aru" is a stereotypical way of how ethnic Chinese in Manchukuo (Northeastern part of China ruled by Japan during WWII) end their Japanese sentences. It is now archaic and for the most part only appears in manga.

So, Yao is easily duped by adorable things... *keeps it in mind*

China is so so cute with his hair down like that. Thanks for the translation!

[identity profile] chairman-yao.livejournal.com 2008-08-22 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
My knock-offs are damn hilarious Honda-kun, of course I am enjoying them. try not to steal them like you stole my car, thief!

[-aru is insanely cute, I'll have to slip it in to his characterization somehow... maybe when Yao is really happy? ...which is never... damn! XD]
