Thanks so much for this! Germany´s last name still intrigues me, though~

MAYBE GERMANY DOESN'T HAVE A LAST NAME BECAUSE HE'S HIDING FROM HIS WAR CRIMES. ....Wait, that's probably too realistic.

Kalpei -- what was the original Japanese for that? I always thought "Karpusi," since it's a legitimate Greek surname -- my interest is piqued. 8D
winter: (krolock - unstillbare gier)

Lukaseiwicz? If it were Lukasiewicz, it'd be a real surname and on top of it, the surname of the guy who discovered kerosene and invented the kerosene lamp.

There was a list of the names mentioned in the comments here (http://community.livejournal.com/hetalia/1045.html?thread=17173#t17173) but it's good to have a separate post for them I think. Didn't know about the ages or the heights, lol at China being immortal.

Not mine, just copy pasted from the link:
Northern Italy - Feliciano Vargas,
Southern Italy - Lovino Vargas ('Romano' is his 'country nickname', to seperate the north and south without hassle in canon. IIRC N-Italy's nickname is Veneziano. It stuck.)
France - Francis Bonnefoy,
Russia - Ivan Braginsky
Austria - Roderich Edelstein
Hungary - Elizabetha Héderváry
Spain - Antonio Fernandez Cariado
Switzerland - Vash Zwingli
Poland - Felix Łukasiewicz
Lithuania - Toris Lorinaitis
Latvia - Raivis Galante
Estonia - Eduard Fonvock
Korea - Im Yonsu?
Turkey - Sadiq Adnan
Greece - Heracles Karpusi
Sweden - Berwald...er, Oxsensshelna?
Finland - Tino Väinämöinen
Prussia - Gilbert Beilschmidt
Canada - Matthew Williams

"Lovino" sounds so stupid ;_; And "Valgas"?! It's not Italian D'x

*feels miserable*

--The other names sounds so awfully fitting, instead XD
*giggles at China's stats XD*

[identity profile] konkira.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
Vargas is a Spanish name, which isn't so bad given their close relationship with Spain in the comic but 'Lovino' is a head scratcher, he's mostly called Romano in the fandom though.

Hi there :3 I really love this series, and appreciate you for translating all the strips and such <3 ^w^

In the list, Finland's name "Tino Väinämöinen" caught my attention (maybe because I'm a Finn XD) and I just thought... His first name "Tino" is kind of funny, it's a rare name here. Though "Timo" would be better, it's a very common Finnish name :3

Sorry to just babble out loud my thoughts, but I was bored so X'D

:D Am I annoying? Not sure. I just wanted to correct the names for Liet and Estonia. Just a little bit. Maybe, I'm a little OC. Fnyaah.

Liet: Laurinaitis

Estonia: von Bock

And thank you for all the hard work!!!! \o/ Very much!

Apparently Australia is still too unimportant to be considered ;___; i will continue to dream on.

[identity profile] emizy.livejournal.com 2008-09-22 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Estonians name is probably spelled "Edvard". W can only be found in foreign words in Finno-Ugric languages.

Thanks for this list. It's really useful.

[identity profile] emizy.livejournal.com 2008-09-24 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
No wait, his name is "Eduard". It's also Estonian name (http://www.nimi.ee/?m1=10&m2=15&m3=20) and match エドァルド better than Edvard (Edvard would be more like エドワード). Besides there is this nicovideo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e3mGHol-_s) where it's used.

Heh. Maybe I should stop this background checking so I wouldn't confuse (and annoy) others.

Wtf, Prussia? How can they have both Prussia and Germany? unless this takes place before Germany's unification...?

Re: O.o

[identity profile] ekiaku.livejournal.com 2008-10-27 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
There are many side comics where it was before the unification. Therefor, as long as Prussia and Germany are not in the same chapter, it's fine.

I think Belarus' surname would probably be "Arlovskaya", the feminine form of Arlovski, which is the surname of an actual Belarusian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrei_Arlovski). :)

Thank you very much for the list!
