[News] Hetalia to be serialized in Comic Birz starting September, news on Anime in October issue

Holy Newsbomb Batman!

via animenewsnetwork:

The October issue of Gentosha's Monthly Comic Birz magazine is announcing on Tuesday that Hidekaz Himaruya will begin serializing his Hetalia manga in the magazine in the next issue in September. The October issue also has the latest information on the anime adaptation.

Until now, Himaruya released his manga online. He is also contributing to the first issue of the new magazine Comic Spica from Gentosha. (Gentosha already hosts the online magazine Web Spica.)

Tokyopop published the manga in North America until it shut down its North American publishing operations this past May. Funimation is releasing the first television anime seasons, the two seasons of the Hetalia: World Series television sequel, and the Hetalia Axis Powers: Paint it, White! film.

Points that I am compelled to draw attention to:

1) The article seems to indicate that the serialization will replace any form of webcomics being produced in the future (at least the way I read it. The way its phrased is a bit vague.) but I tend to believe that Himaruya will continue posting some things and comics there (I mean, how often has he posted comics online this past year anyway?)

2) The fact that Hetalia is being serialized in Comic Birz makes it all the more likely that Hetalia isn't the work being contributed to the new, upcoming magazine Comic Spica, as that it was moved to A) help launch the magazine, and B) Not overwhelm readers with the amount of Himaruya. Of course he's only confirmed for the first issue of Spica for now... (Yes, I'm still holding out hope that Chibisan Date will resume serialization... Shut up.)

3) That the rumors of the anime's death are widely exaggerated. My best guess is once the OVA in September is released, World Series will fandisk, and the series will be rebooted under a new name so they can do another merchandise cycle.

This is pretty surprising.

I'm wondering if it's still going to be a webcomic, or if Himaruya's honestly going to run all the comics in there. Or if this is some sort of mini-series.

SO MANY QUESTIONS.

what

[identity profile] say0ran.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
*explodes* Wow, totally didn't expect Hetalia - I was thinking he was going to do another series. Still, pretty excited!

[identity profile] say0ran.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Pff, totally misread. This is what I get for being up so late. I was thinking Hetalia would be in Comic Spica. *shot* Oh well, I'm still excited xD

[identity profile] x-cutslikesilk.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
hmm, well regardless of how I feel about webcomics being replaced (nooooooooo ), I am happy for Himaruya. (Getting published in two magazines!)

I'm kinda sad that this means the possible end for the webcomic but we should be proud of him! It's not everyday an artist gets published in two magazines! I wonder what the other series will be?

I apologize if nothing I said makes any sense. It's almost 3 AM EST. Why am I still up?

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
I just read this on ANN and came over here to see what people were saying about it :) I doubt this means we won't be subjected to privileged with Hima's usual insanity on the blog, though, so I wouldn't worry if anyone is worried. Can you see those mochi strips in a legit magazine? XD No, if nothing else, we should rejoice because it means we'll get new chapters of the ongoing plot on a regular basis. Yay!

[identity profile] rosetteroulette.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 07:05 am (UTC)(link)

I don't know whether to be excited (comics being published on a set schedule, yay!) or saddened (possible end for webcomics?). But I'm happy for Hima sensei and wish him the best of luck for both magazines!

no more webcomics? so no more events like Halloween and Christmas? ;n;

[identity profile] scdshuton.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactlly what I was thinking. I love the events. T-T

are you me, OP? but still, I'm actually quiet pleased that APH is getting serialized..

I probably should have some focus around the news surrounding the manga, but all I'm seeing is:

The October issue also has the latest information on the anime adaptation.

I'm not sure if I should be happy about this... Hetalia will lost his status as a webcomic, one of the things that made the manga so unique. At the same
time, more strips but I hope that won't go too far...

[identity profile] shantari.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hetalia will lost his status as a webcomic, one of the things that made the manga so unique.

I don't know about that. I mean, Order of the Stick (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots.html) was serialised for a while in some magazine, and that hasn't taken away its status as a webcomic. Depending on workload-issues, I think Himaruya could handle both serialisation and the occasional strip on the site. Like others have said, it's not like he's put out that much strips online lately. (Maybe he's been working on the serialisation?)

/dancing happily at this news/
FINALLY!!!

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think this means he'll stop producing comics on the website at all. Himaruya kind of does what he wants on his blog, ngl. And some of his comics (mochi, Bloodbaths) aren't likely to be the type of thing that's going to be serialized anyway.

/experiencing mixed feelings

Funimation is releasing the first television anime seasons

So does this mean that Funi will be releasing Hetalia on it's TV channel, or maybe Adult Swim or something? (Since Funi's already released the two seasons of Axis Powers and we're just waiting for the movie and World Series...)

Or maybe it's just me getting my hopes up ;_;

[identity profile] usathebunny.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope that's what this means!! That would be awesome if so!...But I'm not sure /sob

Whatever coming...I wish the best of luck for Himaruya-sensei!^^b

[identity profile] hoshiko-2000.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
For some reason, this news makes me feel kind of sad.

[identity profile] pink-cass.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm happy for him, but I seriously hope this doesn't mean no more scanlations. I'm doing the best I can, but my Japanese is still stuck on about 500 words and 30 Kanji. :/
Also, I don't even know if I'll be able to purchase that magazine, especially on a regular basis.
Could somebody who's fluent in Japanese maybe ask Himaruya directly what will happen to the webcomic, and especially the events? I know he answers English questions too, but since this is so important, I would prefer to be absolutely sure nothing is lost in translation.

[identity profile] haro.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure there will still be scanlations. All it takes is someone getting a hold of Comic Birz (which is easy enough), and scanning it.

[identity profile] little-julitan.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of happy that we will get new strips on a regular bases (As long as someone scans them and some others translates). I believe that while this may effect the blog posts since he has to draw for the magazine, we still will have his blog posts to look forward to (especially since he'll probably get more questions from fans who want to know this or that in his comics) and his events -I don't think he can get rid of the Bloodbath ever.

I'm pretty happy for Hima-papa and hope all goes well for him. This might change Hetalia a bit as far as how we see each panel (I think we probably might see less four panel strips), but hey, what if it a good change? I'm just going to remain optimistic and see what happens.

This is strange news. Not sure what to feel anymore! Aww.

[identity profile] livina-eari.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Mixed feelings for this. It'd be lovely to see a strip coming out once in a month (that's a monthly magazine, right?), but then will Hima-san post strips in his blog again? I mean, one of the best thing about Hetalia is zealously checking his blog everyday to see whether there's new strip or not, IDK I've no life.

And, well, seeing who the author is, I really fear that it'd become like Chibisan-Date. I mean, has Chibisan-Date recovered from hiatus yet...?

[identity profile] usathebunny.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a bit worried about this news. I'm terribly confused by what it actually "means". It seemed to come off a lot more vague that it should have I think. /sob

[identity profile] natcat5.livejournal.com 2011-08-29 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm happy for Himaryua, but at the same time....
Does this mean....no more bloodbaths? /sobsob

[identity profile] pookie-mookie94.livejournal.com 2011-08-30 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
... There can't be no bloodbaths...
That is one of the main features that made hetalia unique D: If not.. no more staying on the computer 24/7 for about 5 days and smashing the F5 button on the blog, and no more fun, sleep deprivation and wacky lives of the countries on Christmas and Halloween and and...

*cries*

serialiazing probably means that Himaruya's going to draw Hetalia more often and there's something to look forward!! (unlike in his blog that you never know when would he update)

on the other hand even though he might stop drawing new webcomics, stuff like the bloodbath and probably character designs and simple drawings might still be updated in his blog (I hope!!!!!!!!) :3

I'm only a bit sad we might not be able to have hetalia as often since we would have to buy all the numbers of comic birz or wait for the tankobon edition (is there going to be one?)

anyway I'm happy for him!! I hope this is good news for us too!
