TP cancels volumes with release dates after May 4

As we all know, Tokyopop is going to be shut down by May 31. I'm fairly certain that most of us were expecting that the 3rd volume of Hetalia (along with any other series with volume releases in the near future) were going to be canceled. This is just official confirmation from RightStuf: that volumes with release dates before May 4 seem to be okay, but volumes slated to be released after have been canceled. Being that Hetalia vol. 3 was scheduled for a May 31 release date, it has been canceled.

EDIT:
Just to let people know, the closing of TP's North American publishing branch appears to affect the United Kingdom as well, as the UK's books are all imports from NA. The German branch of Tokyopop will be unaffected.

Mm, they announced World Series, but I can't help but wonder what's up with it since they included it on a survey of "what titles do you want to see?". Also, the whole situation with the dub and the ongoing...stuff between fans, I just worry it's going to get reignited again.

Tokyopop has made some bad decisions in the past 3 years. One of which and the biggest is taking on more than they can chew. They licensed more titles that they could publish and make a profit. Instead of selectively buying licenses, they bought as many as they could in the hopes to make a profit. Couple that with the fact their biggest distributor Borders filing bankruptcy it was a recipe for Tokyopop's downfall. Not to mention they have been struggling for the past 2 years because of their shaky business model.

Bloody fuuu. This was my fave volume so far. And there goes the whole Bento and Sealand contest I guess... I wonder, if another company picks it up, will they rerelease the first two volumes? (Will my OCD force me to buy them again so that they all match?)

I really feel bad for my friend who reads VB Rose... Hetalia will prolly be picked up, but I dunno about VBR.

Man, I hope they don't re-do them... That'd be an unnecessary even-longer-delay before volume 3 would come out. As it is, it might be unbearable unless Tokyopop goes ahead and lets the next company have the current translation progress as property. Which I doubt... so we might have to wait on a whole new translation/editing yet again, and that's after all the license bidding and red tape... -_-

I hope TokyoPop will at least have the decency to let their licenses go without a bunch of drama for the benefit of the fans. Goodness knows them quitting is a dick move considering they coulda sat back and let Hetalia get them out of debt.

And Borders shouldn't be an issue in the age of the internet. Heck, publishers could sell directly from their website nowadays, they can do it cheaper and not have to lose profits to resellers. If they'd get with the times, they could recover, since most of their fanbase are avid internet users who order stuff online anyway. But... well, guess they're quitters. :(

Well, damn. There goes my excitement for Vol.3. Though on a brighter note (on my end), I now have some extra money I can put aside for the re-release of Sailor Moon Vol.1 and Sailor V Vol.1 in September.

Actually, I'm curious. I could of sworn there was supposed to be a Hetalia postcard book that was to be released this month or May?

I know, I worry that it won't get licensed by anyone now, since it's such a simple and easy little series with no catchy hook or anything. It's like, the only thing most would see about it is that Himaruya wrote it. Other than that though, it doesn't look like it'd be a big cash-cow.

But I love it for what it is, and hope a company can see past that and publish it anyway... but I don't think we should hope too hard. :(

I'd been counting on getting Volume 3. I think (based on having double checked the scanlation index) that it's the only one my favorite characters are in. I have the first two volumes, but I'd really been counting on this one.

Especially since I can't really enjoy the scanlations, because my best friend is very strongly against pirating, so every time I read a scanlation or watch a fansub, I feel guilty, because I know how she feels about those things.

So, what am I supposed to do now? I'd been counting on this.
