TP cancels volumes with release dates after May 4

As we all know, Tokyopop is going to be shut down by May 31. I'm fairly certain that most of us were expecting that the 3rd volume of Hetalia (along with any other series with volume releases in the near future) were going to be canceled. This is just official confirmation from RightStuf: that volumes with release dates before May 4 seem to be okay, but volumes slated to be released after have been canceled. Being that Hetalia vol. 3 was scheduled for a May 31 release date, it has been canceled.

EDIT:
Just to let people know, the closing of TP's North American publishing branch appears to affect the United Kingdom as well, as the UK's books are all imports from NA. The German branch of Tokyopop will be unaffected.

Awww, had that pre-ordered too. Was looking forward to it.

Well... this just sucks.

And just when Tokyopop finally got it right this time too.

(And I guess that means it won't be released in the Philippines too, then? Because from what I know, we get our releases from the US, right? D: )

Though it's inevitable that another publisher will pick it up, given how popular Hetalia is, let's hope they will treat it right like Tokyopop. (And not go bankrupt like Tokyopop.)

Awwww maaaaan... I have to cancel my order with my online store then...
I hope it gets picked up quickly!

I was wondering;

Since Tokyopop is closing down and the hetalia license will be dropped for another company to hopefully pick up in the future, I was thinking...can scans that were previously taken down (of any various manga) because they became licensed in our country be returned to the websites (if their license was owned by tokyopop)?

And I know some artists have had an issue with producing doujinshi in the united states of Hetalia because of license/copyright issues, so I believe their frequently prevented by printing companies. So I'm also curious if it might make it somewhat easier for them to produce work now. (But the anime is still licensed, so probably not.)

Sorry, I'm not 100% sure on all of this, I was just thinking about what the manga license being dropped might mean for everything, aside from us obviously not getting out greedy little hands on volume 3 now. D:

if there's not a license holder for a manga, it falls into the legal grey area where scanlation sites exists, so they can be put back online provided they aren't scans of the official English translations.

Well this is just inconvenient D:

Though who's with me in hoping that Hetalia gets picked up by Yen Press? *crosses fingers*

Definitely would love to see them pick it up as well.

If Viz gets it I don't even want to see the results. ):

Ughh why TokyoPop?! I mean, I hated them (they flipped a few manga. I was not impressed.) but WHY?!?! they did Hetalia (and DNAngel) in English and now they're GOING?!

I desperately hope some other company picks up all their stuff (except for some of the cheesier stuff.) AND FAST.

I'm deeply sad that TokyoPop closing, since most of the manga series I read are from them, BUT, I'm really touched that they're stopping to help Japan out. <3

I'm not worried at all that they won't release Hetalia, we still have the online scans and sooner or later another company will take over.

I'm mostly worried about my other favorite series QAQ

DANGIT! My sister pre-ordered it for my birthday! ;-; Another company has to pick it up! When they do, they'll make A LOT of money! X'D

Why?!

[identity profile] kuroashinosanji.livejournal.com 2011-05-15 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, Tokyopop is closing down? I thought they were a real popular company!

If another company doesn't pick Hetalia up, does that mean that there won't be any more Hetalia mangas in english?! Dang it!
