Rounding up Talent
Was watching the /cm/ thread a while ago and someone mentioned wanting a fanmade game, I'm really into the idea, but am lacking serious programming skills. Is anyone interested in throwing in a hand or two in terms of programming and/or art?
Also, I'm not sure what kind of a game it would be. Visual novel style or a dating sim or... something completely different. And honestly it can be as simple as one of those cheesy flash quiz dating sim things, or more complicated like one of those Renpy games, doesn't matter. I just want to get something done.

I also lack programming skills ;_; And can't draw as hell. But I can come up with plot ideas, or sth like that.

I'm fine with drawing, and an NDS homebrew would be ideal, but no programmers. Dating sims are more complicated to program than visual novels, which I think might be the easiest to tackle right now. =D And your help is very much welcomed!

Hmm... than maybe we could do a visual novel that has a few storylines. Original setting and all, and a storyline depends on our choice of starting character. For example, a storyline for Baltic coutries, for UK, France and the kids, and so on. And of course a must-be, some scenes (over)using stylus xD

Normally you would have distribution, marketing, etc, but this wouldn't be a game for-profit so we're working with the bare basics. If we go for a love-sim game, you can actually get away with very simple programming and graphics (it would be, after all, a game of multiple choice. Pick A or B, picking B leads to C and D, D leads to the bad end with Turkey...)
I'd almost suggest throwing a mixture of a love-sim game with, dare I say it, an "educational" game. I mean, Hetalia is not fun without a little history, and I think a lot of people would find it fun to learn a thing or two about Italy while also managing to take off his pants and have him cry out Ger-ma-nyyyy in a nasal, needy voice!

If it is educational, though, who do you think should be the main character? One of the countries or a totally new entity of some kind?

(Once more, a disclaimer: I'm just suggesting ideas here, and they can be right as much as I can be terribly wrong about them. The latter is most likely.)
It's harder to have to choose, but I think a selection of "playable countries" is a little better. (And then again, you could always have different scenarios, which would be played with an specific country.)
For example:
The game could be divided on small scenarios or sub-stories based on historical settings.
Example:
Scenario 1: Silesian Succession War
Play as: Austria, Prussia.
With Austria, you can have different endings. You can end up with Prussia on Austria action ("invasion of vital regions!"), Austria actually winning and beating Prussia, or a happy Hungary/Austria ending. If you play with Prussia, you can top Austria, or maybe end up accidentally upsetting Turkey and getting some Ottoman Topping on your cake of humiliation.
But then again, it could be interesting to find some unconventional approach to it. The problem I have with the gakuen/highschool setting is that if you take the countries out of context, they stop being, well, themselves to become generic, good looking people with very, very stereotypical, extreme personalities. It has to be done VERY carefully.

The scenarios and style that you described kind of reminds me of some Y/BL games like Absolute Obedience where there isn't an overall plot but there are scenarios to be completed and unlocked. I think those are actually simpler to handle, but I think for the sake of continuity, maybe it should have one or two characters that are the primary focus. Doesn't mean they'll be involved with everybody, just that they will be sort of plot device to tie everything together.
Hetalia in itself isn't very serious business to begin with, I don't mean to just go ahead and slap a highschool setting on things, what I meant was putting them in the kind of vague space that they all seem to live in within the 4koma strips. Putting them in a more concrete setting is a little better than just blitzing through limbo, I think. The "REAL HISTORY" part of it would have to be very tastefully done because educational games or games that try to incorporate real facts into it have a really bad track record of cheesing it up. But yeah, thinking about it now, a play by scenario game would probably be easier. The entire game would be less confusing and a little more casual in terms of the time devoted to it because of the episodic nature of it.
Maybe start with the original cast. Allied powers vs. Axis powers? Or maybe a little of everything?

Win with America and you can play crazy rape mode with Russia. Fun times for everyone!

I could help with programming, whether it's with Ren'py or something else.

@ u @ and since you have experience on it, more points for RenPy.

Seventh in the nation at grammar, if we're talking FBLA.I'm definitely willing to Review/Beta or write dialogue. This is SUCH a great idea. I'm excited.
And yeah, I have a little bit of experience with Ren'Py...not really enough to feel CONFIDENT about it, but enough not to be too useless in case you can't find anyone else.

I've mixed audio/video related radio-plays for quite a few years. Hopefully I could be of some help.

I'd love to help though, if I can..
I think a fan game sounds really cool.
There's a bit of a visual novel type thing for Hetalia..
Not gonna lie though, I really don't know what it is.. like if this is a demo or whatever..
Free demo? (Maybe?) I can't understand it at all.

That's one idea for a scenario game, if anything. I'm not saying you should use it (though you can), but that you can also make up this kind of thing if you don't want to go all-out history or all-out AU.
