Rounding up Talent

Was watching the /cm/ thread a while ago and someone mentioned wanting a fanmade game, I'm really into the idea, but am lacking serious programming skills. Is anyone interested in throwing in a hand or two in terms of programming and/or art?

Also, I'm not sure what kind of a game it would be. Visual novel style or a dating sim or... something completely different. And honestly it can be as simple as one of those cheesy flash quiz dating sim things, or more complicated like one of those Renpy games, doesn't matter. I just want to get something done.

We need people for:

* Scripting
* Graphics
** CG imagery
*** Portraits
*** Backgrounds
** Sprites (if needed)
** Animation (if needed)
* Sound
* Programming
* Reviewing and Beta-ing

EDIT: For those interested in helping, I've set up a development community at [profile] hgame.

I was considering making a Hetalia flash dress up game, but I seriously suck at drawing clothes... And I wouldn't know which character to make or really make the dress up game. I'm sort of retarded at flash. XD

We were thinking about making a NDS homebrew, since it has awesome opportunities, like stroking Italy's ahoge xD I personally think that dating sim would be the best, but we should be able to choose as who we want to play.
I also lack programming skills ;_; And can't draw as hell. But I can come up with plot ideas, or sth like that.

First, it'd be important to list what a game needs. Then we can round up the talent on each department:

* Scripting
* Graphics
** CG imagery
*** Portraits
*** Backgrounds
** Sprites (if needed)
** Animation (if needed)
* Sound
* Programming
* Reviewing and Beta-ing

Normally you would have distribution, marketing, etc, but this wouldn't be a game for-profit so we're working with the bare basics. If we go for a love-sim game, you can actually get away with very simple programming and graphics (it would be, after all, a game of multiple choice. Pick A or B, picking B leads to C and D, D leads to the bad end with Turkey...)

I'd almost suggest throwing a mixture of a love-sim game with, dare I say it, an "educational" game. I mean, Hetalia is not fun without a little history, and I think a lot of people would find it fun to learn a thing or two about Italy while also managing to take off his pants and have him cry out Ger-ma-nyyyy in a nasal, needy voice!

I'm not good at programming or art, but I'd love to anything that I can to help. :D

School yaoi! :D Best thing and easy storyline.
Hmm... than maybe we could do a visual novel that has a few storylines. Original setting and all, and a storyline depends on our choice of starting character. For example, a storyline for Baltic coutries, for UK, France and the kids, and so on. And of course a must-be, some scenes (over)using stylus xD

Well, I can help in coloring and some graphical thing, not sure about the programming though since I'm a self-learn and still in the very basic stage.

I can't draw worth spit and couldn't program if my life depended on it. I am however happy to help out with story (possibly, I don't do fluff very well) and will happily beta/review anything that needs it.

Well, my personal opinion - highly biased - is that I never liked games where some marty stu or mary sue is introduced just for the sake of "interacting with your favorite characters." It gives a self-insert feeling, and to be honest, I don't think *I* want to molest Italy (but I sure would enjoy Germany doing it.)

(Once more, a disclaimer: I'm just suggesting ideas here, and they can be right as much as I can be terribly wrong about them. The latter is most likely.)

It's harder to have to choose, but I think a selection of "playable countries" is a little better. (And then again, you could always have different scenarios, which would be played with an specific country.)

For example:
The game could be divided on small scenarios or sub-stories based on historical settings.

Example:
Scenario 1: Silesian Succession War
Play as: Austria, Prussia.
With Austria, you can have different endings. You can end up with Prussia on Austria action ("invasion of vital regions!"), Austria actually winning and beating Prussia, or a happy Hungary/Austria ending. If you play with Prussia, you can top Austria, or maybe end up accidentally upsetting Turkey and getting some Ottoman Topping on your cake of humiliation.

But then again, it could be interesting to find some unconventional approach to it. The problem I have with the gakuen/highschool setting is that if you take the countries out of context, they stop being, well, themselves to become generic, good looking people with very, very stereotypical, extreme personalities. It has to be done VERY carefully.

If it were something like a visual novel or a dating sim an engine like Ren'Py is a good choice, I think. I've only tried to do very simple stuff, but from their list of games (http://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/Ren%27Py_Games) I think the possibility to do more complex stuff is there.

I could help with programming, whether it's with Ren'py or something else.

A representative of both sides, maybe? ...I think playing as Italy would a allow for a lot of people to talk, since he'd just be quiet and eat pizza, or make hilarious comments. It's like playing uke mode. If you want to play seme mode, pick someone like England or America.

Win with America and you can play crazy rape mode with Russia. Fun times for everyone!

Grammar nazi here. Seventh in the nation at grammar, if we're talking FBLA.I'm definitely willing to Review/Beta or write dialogue.

This is SUCH a great idea. I'm excited.

And yeah, I have a little bit of experience with Ren'Py...not really enough to feel CONFIDENT about it, but enough not to be too useless in case you can't find anyone else.

I can help out with Sound and the Review/Beta.
I've mixed audio/video related radio-plays for quite a few years. Hopefully I could be of some help.

Umm, I could help out with art a little if no one more talented wants to. ._.
I'd love to help though, if I can..
I think a fan game sounds really cool.

There's a bit of a visual novel type thing for Hetalia..
Not gonna lie though, I really don't know what it is.. like if this is a demo or whatever..
Free demo? (Maybe?) I can't understand it at all.

I... I very highly recommend not calling the community 'hgame!' You'll be giving people the wrong idea if they think 'hentai-game' like me!

Hrm, I might be interested in helping with an NDS homebrew since I've been reading up on it, but I'd need to brush up a lot on my C++. (Also, still have no idea how bad my school workload would be.)

[identity profile] andziela.livejournal.com 2008-08-27 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to hear it ^^
(I am sure that I'll have LOTS of school work, I'm in the last year of high school)

I was toying around a hypothetical game idea for the Cold War, mainly you're Al, and stuck in a ten-day fallout shelter malfunction with the rest of the other countries trying to find what Soviet's up to. Fail, or piss off Russia too much, and the world blows up. Obviously it has multiple scenarios and not necessarily pairings, though you can get those if you want.

That's one idea for a scenario game, if anything. I'm not saying you should use it (though you can), but that you can also make up this kind of thing if you don't want to go all-out history or all-out AU.

I'd be more than happy to be a part of making a Hetalia game. :3! But my only talent is drawing (I could do portraits or backgrounds? Or even small animations, I have done a few of those). I could help with developing the story/plot too, though.
Link to my DA: http://royalblack.deviantart.com/ (though I only have old and ugly art there, and mostly of girls XD; )

Thank you! ^___^ That makes me really happy~
