Himaruya's updated his blog with some information on the artbook, and a picture of Italy! Kitty is there, too! And some chibis of what appear to be Japan's prefectures? They may not be for Hetalia, however, although I see "Hetalia" written in the text beneath them.

He calles them "Hetalia mini characters", so they're probably an official part of the universe, if not really significant to the main storyline. It's probably service for the Japanese fans, as they all have their own prefecture-tan now! :] So cool! >___

First things first, and by now, it's typical of me, but.

*ahem* ITALIA~! ;-; Of course artistic Italy would be the one making the announcement of the Hetalia Artbook, and also, lolmain character. I don't know, I always am happy to see nonchibi anything, especially a gorgeous Italy like that. I think because whenever Italy is drawn in uniform, his shoulders and chest look so appealing~.

That kitty is starting to become an appendage, no?

Okay, enough Italy fangirling. I love this entire post, because my goodness, besides New Zealand, these are some of my favorite designs he's done for characters in a long time. I think I've fallen in love with those Japanese prefectures! The girls are especially beautiful, just look at those elegant school uniforms and hair. ;-; Needless to say, the boys are both really cool and cute too. Overall, excellent and well balanced designs, Himaruya! You can tell he loves his country very much. <3

Hong Kong is a special administrative district...which has its own government or something (at least, I could go on Twitter in HK but not mainland China; I don't know much), so yeah not a province or prefecture.

Yamagata looks like a yamato nadeshiko-type to me~ * 3*
