Comic Diary 9

I actually translated these awhile ago, but found out they were claimed.  I don't really know if they're still claimed or what, but I think I'm in the clear (due to changes in claimed process)?  Sorry if I'm wrong though.  I really find this claimed thing hard to navigate.  This is also my first time posting on livejournal.  Hopefully it goes okay.

Correct me if there are any mistakes.  Translation notes at the end.

■New York People's Chic-ness■

I shall answer your question.

>New York is famous for having a
chic image, but is that what it's
like in reality?

Yes.  Quite chic.

Italian people and

French people are quite chic.

But New Yorkers, when it comes to fashion
are quite rough.

Mild: T-shirt
Normal: button-up shirt
Cold: hoodie
More Cold: down-coat

Is the general rotation of clothing.
They spend their time dressed quite comfortably.

■French...■

Normally, in England, if you say maid,
this sort of maid comes to mind, but

If you put "French" in front, it immediately becomes
this sort of image.

England and France's bad relations are famous, aren't they?

Both these countries bilaterally use eachother's names
to change the meaning of words.
In English, putting "French" in front of a word
generally changes the word to mean
foolish or vulgar.

Now that I mention it, pornographic videos
are also called "French Movies."

Incidentally, in France, words with
"Anglais (English)" in the front generally
take the meaning of vulgar.
Also, in French cooking, "Anglais" in the front
will mean either plain, simple, or unappetising.

Okay, that's all.  For those of you on 4chan, I did post these before.  I had a bad font back then.  Some kind anon suggested this one, so you can thank that anon for it being easier to read.  If you still can't read it, blame my crappy editing skills.

The first comic, when I say chic, I mean fashionable.  That makes sense right?  I'm not really sure what a good choice of words would be.  Also, as for the seasonal wear, the words are mostly katakana, but they aren't quite the same in English as in Japanese.  I chose what I felt made the most sense, and what looked right with google image search.  Like parka became hoodie.  If you feel this is wrong, well, you can change it.

The second one, the later parts I'm uncertain on.  Because I don't know any French (despite being Canadian), I feel a little nervous making these claims, but I think it says something like this in the original.  Is it true?!  I had no idea.

Okay, I figured out how to cut properly, so now I can focus on if the rest of this is claimed, or any other requests, or any translation problems.  Yay!

LOL UK. CONCEAL THAT GARBAGE.
I love Himaruya's choice of illustration for "French Kiss" lol

Ah New York. I think we care more about comfy and witty shirts. And the warmth so that we don't freeze our butts off while waiting for the train or while racing the person next to you in speed-walking.

LOLOLO NY fashion xD Sadly that also applies really well to LA fashion :P

LOL the bunnies/fish comparison is SO CUTE....

[identity profile] hybrid-box.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.... funny, like most French people here, I never heard "anglais" being used to make something sound vulgar.... even in cooking stuff XD

I heard most English still really hate the French. Which is sad, because now, most Frenchies don't particularly hate the English (that I know of...) I've always been pretty fond of the English culture, until I discovered how one-sided my love was ;__; after that I just hid under the covers and moped XP

Best. French maid. EVER. I want it iconized too!

[identity profile] dehautdesert.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't be sad, my dear French person! The only English people who REALLY hate the French are the snobby ultra-English "everything not English must be destroyed!" people, and certain breeds of chav--both of whom make the rest of us English people *facepalm*.

However, many people pretend to hate the French at times for comedic reasons, and British people have been known to be so sarcastic that others cannot tell when they're being sincere or not. So be assured! If you ever meet an English person who truly hates the French (and isn't just putting it on for a laugh... or drunk) then the rest of us English probably loathe them just as much.

(no subject)

im bilingual so i know what it means but funny i never noticed. XDDDD
