[video] The Rise and Fall of Prussia

First of all, I'm not entirely sure if linking to a video I do not own is allowed, so delete this if it isn't.

That being said, this is a video illustrating what happened to Prussia, territory-wise.  I think Prussia fans will find it interesting, so I'd like to share it.  I don't know how accurate it is, but it gives us a good idea as to how Prussia gained and lost its land.  Er, his land.

...I found it kind of sad.

Interesting illustrated view of territorial loss, but this is not Hetalia related. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, though! :]

Yeah, I didn't want to ruin anyone's fun, I'm just parroting the community rules - "Hetalia, not social studies class" sort of deal. It's all good.

I went through the entire public school system without ever hearing a word of Prussia, Saxony, or Napoleon for that matter. Ain't history class so smurt.

I came into Hetalia after being a history nerd for a few years, so I at least knew where countries were and what their signifigance was/is (unlike some of the underclassmen...who couldn't find Vietnam on a map...). It always makes me at least happy to know that someone's interest was sparked by Hetalia so they go on to research further. It's like any learning tool, no matter what the haters say, so good for you~ :]

Uh huh. We asked her where it was while she was taking the Vietnam War Exam (this is a USA highschool I speaking of. Y'know, the country that waged war there) and she pointed to the OCEAN. And we said "That's water..." and then we gave her a hint of "It's under the country that used to wage war with them throughout the centuries" and she said "America", then she pointed to Cambodia. I face palmed.
Keeeeeeep learning. Lord knows most people nowadays could give two shits about different countries/languages/cultures, haaah. If it's an anime that gets them interested, more power to people.

Oh Prussia...

[identity profile] sakerat.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Echoing the comment above. Being part Prussian how can I not?
So not awesome.

Yeah, my mom would flip if someone called her German...pride for a country that's no longer.

Well, now I can understand why Gilbert is still alive (other than because he's popular) the thought of the allied forces brutally killing him might be a little dark.

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR A POST TO USE THIS ICON. Yessss

This is a nice video, thanks for sharing! As others have said it's not technically Hetalia-related, but personally I love history and maps, so hey, I'm not complaining. C:

I've looked at plenty of static maps of Prussia in my history classes over the years, but it was interesting to actually be able to see the territories changing over time like that; it really gives you a much better idea of just how much Prussia conquered and then eventually lost. (It's quite sad how quickly that happened, too.) I think my favourite part was watching the massive territorial gains over relatively short spans of time under Friedrich der Große and Otto von Bismarck. I always knew they accomplished a lot, but every time I read about those men or look at maps I am always more and more in awe of how powerful and strong they were as leaders. It's no wonder Prussia is egotistical and looks up to Fritz in Hetalia; who can blame him with people like that around? xD
Now if only he'd mention Bismarck, too, and run around with a pickelhauben... my life would be made. EVEN ONE STRIP, HIMARUYA. ONE. ;u;

I'm sorry, this got rather lengthy... I love Prussian history so much, ahh.

There's a part where it goes "Germany lost World War I," and then an arrow goes pointing to Denmark. I totally loled since it looked like Germany lost to Denmark.
.
.
......ok wait, that'd be kinda hot.
Unitl it said "to Poland". Then it just got retarded.
I really need to pay attention better.

But in all seriousness, that was the saddest history lesson ever. Which is really bad, considering how much I had to study the Holocaust.
POOR GILBERT-BABY!

This is so sad~ TAT Srsly worse than some of the Holocaust stuff I've studied.

(but LOLs when it has those two arrows going "Occupied by France", I was all NOT THE VITAL REGIONS~ D: XD)

We get taught about WW1 & WW2 our whole lives practically (or I have anyway), but untill I read Hetalia...I had never heard of Prussia. I can't fathom how that can happen. Everything is "Germany did it", "It was all Germany's fault." never a mention that it wasn't even CALLED Germany yet. *shakes head dismally* There is a history shaped hole in my heart. ;_;

Uh, interesting video!
Not 100% correct as far as I learned it.. but it's nice to see the development.
Thanks for the hard work! :D

Very nice. The only thing that bothers be is the part from 1971 on - there was no Prussian "Kaiser", emperor, only a Prussian King. The King of Prussia was the Emperor of Germany, but it wasn't like Bavaria was under Prussia's rule XD What I want to say is that Prussia as a state had pretty much no influence on other states - they still relied on their own kings, dukes etc. - only in stuff that was Germany-related, not related to the single states, the emperor ruled them.
And, for example, Alsace-Lorraine wasn't a Prussian, but a German occupied area.

Of course, German and Prussian history have a lot in common but after 1871 most stuff was done by Germany (if you want to see it in a "Hetalian" way) - Prussia may have helped him but all the states did.

What I see now, at minute 3, where's Prussia striked out - it's not like Brandenburg was annexed. He just belonged to Prussia like Prussia belonged to Germany after 1871 so I think it's wrong to say it "was" Prussia. Brandenburg did exist before and after Prussia. Kaliningrad, though, was Prussia's capital (as Königsberg - when Prussia was still a duchy of course).

At the end I want to add that Otto von Bismarck wasn't Prussia's leader either. He was the Reichskanzler later in Germany - and the leader was the Prussian King. Bismarck was just his first man.

And Russia wasn't defeated by the Germans I think... they dropped out of the war because of their revolution if I remember it correctly...

I'm sorry if I sound like a bitch, but it just bothered me. The vid was really great in the beginning but had many mistakes from 1871 on.

Ahh, In my AP European History class we just studied "The Rise of Prussia"
I was all "hell yes! :D" Go Prussia Go!

Well now this just makes me sad... :(
