Marmite is actually a black Vegetable spread sold mostly in the UK (and few other parts like in Canada). A great source of vitamins and frolic acid but it seriously have this strong, sharp, and bitter taste. xD Not many people love it. You can have it with butter on a toast (or I guess you can eat other things with it?).

Are American pastries really that terrifying? I think it's fine so long as you don't get the really pasty, fluffy, radioactively-colored kind of icing that tastes like sweetened plastic.

I actually think that's a bit of the Japanese viewpoint showing through (which Himaruya usually does so well at hiding, haha xD;; ). I assume that Japanese snacks and confections are mostly natural-coloured, and when they are dyed it's in a kind of mute, subtle manner just to make things more interesting. When Himaruya (and other Japanese people really) sees American snacks which are bluer than the blue boxes on this LJ page, they don't look like food to him! xD;; He pokes fun at this endlessly with photographic evidence every time he is in America. It's all over his journal.

As for England's cane, I think it's actually supposed to be a cane seat, since when Himaruya posted the updated link, underneath was this link and a comment roughly (read: Google) translated to "Gentleman cane is cool":

Thanks for the translations! I think this is the second time that Himaruya has mentioned Marmite, the first was Romano threatening to dip Veneziano in it in "Can't Escape from Italy" (and there was a doodle of it in a footnote). Not surprising that America's scared of it too XD

I had blue frosting on my cupcakes but not my cakes. ( Unless you count the time my babysitter made a cake from an old Disney cookbook that told you to put blue food coloring in the cake batter... It was pretty awful and tasted rubbery.) I don't know where Himaruya is getting the idea we love blue cakes!
