[Question] Official Scotland Design?

Everywhere I look there's fanart of the nation Scotland. At first I thought maybe they were just explosions of OCs, but they all look alike! How did this come to be? I checked Himaruya's blog, and I don't see anything on it, but maybe I missed something?

Lol, this. Jfen are taking it wayyyy too far by making him over the top yandere towards England. England should at least be fighting back if they want to portray it in this way.

The whole 'England is bullied by his brothers' thing that was said by Himaruya obviously doesn't make sense if you look at it by history. However, the way I see this is that their 'bullying' is the result of England invading them. So like, England is the one invading them, but obviously they won't be pleased with this will they? So they bully him for it. XD

The bullying thing could also relate to their current RL relationship haha. These days I see them getting along a lot better than they used to.... but still not very well. :'D Personally I see all the brothers being tsundere for each other LOL.

I annoys me too and I'm English. XD Also hi I am just below you in the north-east of England~! o/

Also, may I ask what are your opinions on his appearance? For me the only things I dislike about the design are that he should be much more manly and that he should at least have some stubble or a beard. I like his hair style and colour (even though I would prefer it to be slightly longer and a bit wavy)

LOL, I have so many gripes about THIS Scotland's character, I don't even know where to start - other than to state that historically Scotland have never been out to conquer, nor upset other nations and have only reacted when others invaded him.

That asides, it baffles me why he's turned out yandere or even tsundere. Historically the Scots have always been a friendly bunch (hardcore fighting bunch too when it comes to our mercs/soldiers), but no.. seriously, I'm not just being biased because I'm Scottish, but when the Scots went over to America to try and claim land, they ended up befriending the Native American instead of suppressing them, enough said LOL! And over all, the Scots are known to be friendly people in general. It's not like we shy away from expressing our feelings, nor do we get prickly and snappy. We like a good laugh and like to laugh at ourselves too... so just how that interprets to being tsundere or yandere is beyond me.

Anyway, my ranting asides XD I do agree with you that I think some 'bullying' might have occurred after England kept pestering his siblings, but I don't think it was anywhere near as bad as some of those fanarts I see on pixiv of Scotland beating up England. I see it more like a brotherly kind of fighting. Like "Aye, I'm going to kick yer arse!", but when it comes down to it, they fight just like any other pair of brothers do. If anything, I see their fights as being lulzy as opposed to violent 'I'm going to kill you!' kind of fighting. I don't know if I'm making any sense, but since you're England, I'm sure you know all about that 'healthy' rivalry the Scots and English have. Yes, they say they hate each other, but it's not like they want to kill each other XD

As for my opinions on this OC of Scotland's appearance? I have always pictured Scotland to be a bit rugged looking (like the acutal Scottish landscape) and originally my own design of him DID have him with stubble (no beard, just stubble... my OC of Ireland is the one with a beard lol!), but when it comes down to drawing characters, I fail at drawing stubbly chins, so I ended up leaving it out.. and ended up liking the idea of a 'Scotland' who is clean shaven o__o So I don't mind seeing Scotland OCs being clean shaven. I dislike the thought of giving Scotland those bushy thick eyebrows England has just because in my mind, those eyebrows represent England's John Bull soul and John Bull was something Scotland didn't approve of or believe in XD

By the way, off topic, but North-east England? That's SO close to Scotland! *waves at you from across the border*

Ahh if only you could express this to the originial artist. I dislike this Scotland as well, plus, I imagined him sort of wearing the traditional outfit (Skirt and such) /shot

Don't get me wrong, I have no qualms over other people and their interpretations/portrayals of nations that don't have official designs, but what gets me is how inaccurate the artist's portrayal of Scotland is in terms of Scotland's history XD But... I dunno... I feel kind of mean if I say anything because everyone is entitled to their own opinions and ideas - even if this Scotland OC breaks my brain with the way he bullies and abuses England x__x

I agree that Scotland should wear something traditional like a kilt. I mean, if you're going to be stereotypical, you can't get more stereotypical than a kilt, sporran, plaid and tam o'shanter hat for a Scotsman!

Hi sorry for the late reply!

I'd like to see this in Hetalia. Especially the difference between England and Scotland when it comes to them going to America like what you explained. And just basically the differences between them instead of it all being lumped together into the UK if you get what I mean. XD When it comes down to it, the reason I see him as tsundere is because of the way you behave towards us English ahaha, i.e the rivalry and the jokes etc. But then as you said, you are a friendly bunch overall! That's where I get the tsundere from. Also that they're all brothers and I like the idea of them all being tsundere towards each other /shallow reason in shallow. But no way is he yandere.

I agree totally, they've gone over the top. I see it like you do, the brotherly type of fighting. I think they just like the whole 'Big brother Scotland was such a meanie to little England' thing. D: They don't seem to have done much research at all. Ahah, since this is Hetalia, their fights will be lulzy rather than violent when they finally happen in canon. XD Their rivalry better be shown or I will be disappointed! :'D

Me too! I just added the France style lines to his chin to give the appearance of stubble orz. I like the whole idea of them having the eyebrows because they're brothers.. but you're right, Himaruya did state that he gave them to England because of John Bull. However, don't Australia and Hong Kong have them too? Would they believe in John bull? *not sure at all* IDK but for me that's not the main reason that they're there... so I like the idea of Scotland having them. It would be hilarious if he was shown to hate his eyebrows because of John Bull though haha.

Yep! *waves back* Even though I live so close, I don't actually visit Scotland that often. XD I've been to Edinburgh a few times though. :D
