FRIGHT! A taste of a Hetalia Horror manga

Hey Hetalia! Remember me from long ago? I was the one who asked all of you nice people back in March for suggestions on the HetaliaHorror! manga I'm working on.

Thanks to everyone's help, I've managed to get a firm footing in the plot, character design and so forth. So today, I'm finally bringing you a short tidbit as to what the actual manga is like. Granted, I'm not exactly pleased with the way my scanner did these pictures, but, hey, what can you do? Don't tell me they're crappy, as I am already familiar with that, thank you. These were completely done in pecil with no ink, though I plan to re-upload them penned sometime later. I just wanted to get these to everyone as soon as possible so I could get some critique in before I start submitting the comic (which may be in June).

Warnings: A bit of language, France, some freaky anthromorphs, France, and mentions/suggestions/display of cannabliism in less than 3 1/2 pages
Rating: Better label this as PG-13 for all of the above

The plot:

England had enough problems to deal with. A stupid wino bastard, an ungrateful brat, things seemed to spiral downward for him day after day. But in an attempt to get back at those who caused him so much misery, he accidentally released a demon from a cursed book upon the nations, who were mutated into beings of horror. Now with it on the loose and chaos ensuing on a global scale, can England stop the madness from getting any farther? Or is he doomed to live in the twisted reality he's unleashed, at least until one of the monstrous nation-horrors decides to silence him forever????

If anyone is interested to know who was casted as what, here is a general overview of their current status:

France as France and his sexy-bad self, who is the victim of numerous bludgeons, mauling and all around basic horrific violence. For an odd reason, it appears that the demon's spell did not affect him and turn him into a monster (same goes for Russia)....

England as the Demonic Clairvoyant. He's gained incredible powers as a result of releasing the bound Demon, but has also gained the unfortunate side effects that come from the paranormal powers. To distinguish his abnormality from others, there is a pentagram located on his chest that burns whenever the Demon is nearby.....

America as the Wendigo. Not much has changed, except now he has the unhealthy appitite for human flesh, 24/7. He is labeled as a Current, meaning that most of his human emotion still exists, thus he is able to make moral-based decisions.

Japan as the Kuchisake-onna, or the Slit-Mouth. He, too, is a Current, but he has become extremely self-conscience about his face and the face his mouth has been slashed open right up to his ears...

Poland as the Rusalka. He's a Current, but he's none too happy about his position. He has to remain wet or else he'll wither away, and as a result, he cannot wear makeup/clothing that is 'cool'. He blames England whenever he can.

Lithuania as the Cat Man, another Current. Honestly, nothing has changed. Lithuania remains to be level-headed and kind, but now has the unexplainable urge to get head-pets.....

Greece as the Minotaur. He' a Current and has the urge to eat human flesh like America, but he's able to better control his urges. He does not see his transformation as 'bad' for in his case, it could be 'worse'.

Prussia as the Zombie Hunter (yes, I know, too much L4D1&2). He is the living dead now, but since when has he not been? Everyone fears that due to his abnormal condition, he will slowly fall from the status of being a Current into becoming a vicious Displaced....

Ukraine as the No-Face. She is a Current but is kept under intensive surveillance due to her inability to tell friend from foe (no face, remember?)

Hungary as the Medusa. She is a Displaced; she can no longer act on her conscience but rather her instinct. That instinct, unfortunately, tells her to kill. She tried to control herself at first yet she lost complete control when she accidentally turned Austria into stone.

Germany as the Krampus. He, like Hungary, is now a Displaced but had tried very hard to fight his cannibalistic urges. Sadly, he failed and took the lives of at least 16 children his monstrous side believed to be naughty, eating every single scrap. He's now locked up and kept under heavy surveillance. It saddens Italy he must be kept this way, but at the state he's in now, Germany will attack anything....

North and South Italy as the Ghost Twins. These Currents may not look frightening now, but that demon's spell has given them incredible powers that can be used when they're together. Romano is currently awaiting news on Spain while the other awaits in hopeful silence that Germany's sanity may return...

The Demon. Status is currently unknown. It is of great and terrible power that is not to be taken lightly. Its true intentions are unclear, although there is a chance that everyone will find out soon if England fails....

Tell me your opinions guys! Good? Bad? Can't see the words? Back to the drawing board for me??? This manga isn't going to be possible unless I can get some proper feedback.

Ooooh. I actually find this really fascinating. Like I want to know more about what happens. I like how each of the nations were casted - I like Prussia as a Zombie Hunter. Like a lot.

Prussia's monster was made in response to a popularity pole I posted on a different site. Apparently, I have made the right decision in casting him as such.

Ah, very good questions!!! Truth be told, this particular manga doesn't have any pairings, though there are opportunities to imply some. It's a free-for-all, really.

It will be posted on Deviant Art once the ball gets rolling and more people ask for it to be posted there. But sooner or later it will happen, I'm just not sure when.

Depends. Promotional art, special introduction, pages and covers will be colored (or inked in a very different way), but other than that, it will remain in a standard 8-point gray-scale or black&white.

The goal for the manga is...well, as of yet, VERY long. (approx over 200 pages worth) The planning has been done up to mid-series, after some important events have been covered. This was issued as a challenge to me by a friend who trying to get me to become a professional cartoonist, so a long-series is just what I need in order to prep myself for other long-term projects.

Info? As in, the story info?? Sorry to say, but I ain't for spoiling things. Unless it's important to know for the story, no info shall be given out for the sake of keeping suspense to the story. Any additional info that does not relate to the story (update times) or character info will be available to those who want it.

The rest of it, at least the first chapter, is scheduled to be posted sometime next month. It has to be next month as I'm very busy this month (finishing the school year, whoo!!!), but once it kicks off, there is a probable chance it will be updated two times per week (depending on the scan load, # of pages, etc).

Have you ever watched Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok? The Italy Bros look similar to Ecchan. Which means that thay look cute <3

...Anyway, I think your plot is pretty solid so far! I would read it once you have it set in stone. The text could be a little more organized inside of a text bubble rather than around the characters. Although, I do like the TNBC-esque style:3

Ah, thank you! Sorry about the text; since this was a pencil drawing, I didn't get a chance to fix text bubbles and such. Hopefully, the manga itself will look cleaner to you.

You recognized the style? Cool! I have a very diverse way of drawing things and I sometimes like to mix elements of my own to pre-existing bases. I'm glad you like the style.

Ecchan was the first to come to mind (once you see it, you may or may not see the comparison). ;D Now I have to see what else you will do with your style! I like the previews of it so far. <3

Looks good so far. I had some loading issues, but that's more of a 'my computer sucks' thing. Can't wait for the rest!

Thankfully for you, this isn't entirely horror. Admittedly, there are some graphic elements to the manga (as it is horror), but there is a balance of other lighter elements *(such as comedy since this is Hetalia) you may enjoy.

The creatures are all amazing and I can't get over the Italies condition, Poland constantly havig to be wet and how Russia offers Latvia's arm to America. I wanna see Prussia like SUPERBAD right now and he isn't even my most favorite character.

Well, he WAS to blame. But the real thanks for the monsters goes to the people who helped me out back in March. They gave me the suggestions, I worked around it. Russia giving Latvia's arm away just made sense to me.

I'm really liking this so far, normally I'm not a fan of anything of the horror genre but I love mythology so seeing that mixed with Hetalia is awesome! The Boo!Italy Brothers are adorable, and like what Jasper_Child said, they remind me of Ecchan too~

Wow, this turned out MUCH better than I had expected, I have to admit. I thought it would some kind of horror-AU-very-much-serious-trying-to-be-scary-ish thingy, but this is awesome! I like how it's actually serious, with a few laughable moments. (I literary burst out laughing at the "LATVIAAAA!!" part! xD ) I also liked all that about who got which creature (Zombie!Prussia & Wendigo!America is pure win), and I remember a few of them from your discussion thread (like Faceless!Ukraine. I LOVED that idea!)

I also love the descriptions you put afterwards. It made me feel like I was getting a little more into it. It gave the story a little more depth (or whatever you call it in English), like the characters "status" (Current or Displaced) and what has happened to them (like Hungary turning Austria into stone (BAAWWW ;A; ) and Germany killing the children).

I also simply ADORE that you made Prussia the caring character, who doesn't wine about his problems even though they're probably worst than most (the possibility of him becoming a Displaced) and tries to focus on the others instead. (Continuing to verify my head-canon about Prussia actually being a really nice guy. <3 )

I want more of this! As soon as possible! :D

I'm glad that it exceeded your expectations. I admit, when I was first issued this challenge, I thought I'd have to make it as serious as possible. Then I realized what fandom this was supposed to be. I'm sorry, but even if history is sorta bleak in some areas, it can be really happy or funny in others. So I couldn't make a Hetalia horror that was completely serious.

I wanted to make Prussia the caring character because that's how I view him. I love Prussia to no end.

They are adorable, aren't they??? I drew them this way to reflect not only cuteness, but to relieve pressure off my hand (don't want to draw TOO over detailed panels...).

I had a "wait, what!" when Prussia said that "neither Italy is alive anymore". I didn't notice the little ghosts, so I though something nasty had happened to them. I get it now though.

Uhhh as far as positive feedback goes, script is nice and the voices seem correct. England's anatomy is just a little skewed (a bit too thin), but otherwise they look good. Love Lithuania and Poland; jesus christ so adorable I don't even.

Uhhhh Germany's intense like woah. As a HUGE Germany fan, reading that made me freak.

As far as crit goes, the only thing I have to say is you should clean up your pages a little, but I'm going to assume these are sketches and not the finished project. Once it's done and the lines are cleaned up, I'm sure it'll be more impressive in that sense.

I can't wait to see more, though! I don't see any glaring typos or total English deaths, so it looks like you're doing well so far. I'd love to see more of it, oh man it looks so cool.

As in "did I ever finish it" or "did it ever happen canonically?"

As a matter of fact, I have done and am still continuing this project. It's not an easy feat; I am the only person doing this. That means that the words, pictures, borders, inking, etc, are done completely by hand, by myself ONLY. If you weren't aware, there was a pilot chapter released awhile back. Mind you, page forty cannot be viewed for an odd reason because it is "corrupt". However, you can see page forty in my journal.

I am still working on this project. It's taking awhile, being edited and worked on whenever I have free time. And that, lately, is becoming a rarity for me. But at least be thankful that I have not given up on it. :)
