Question About Turkey's Ottoman Clothing (and is anyone going to Tekkoshocon?)...

What is exactly is Turkey wearing in the Ottoman era strips? (Like this one and this one?) I'm not very educated in the history of fashion. So is there a particular name for what he's wearing? Is it a hybrid of historical Ottoman garb? Does anyone have any official ref pictures? Any pictures of a real life equivalent?  I'm actually trying to do a historically accurate cosplay that I can wear outside conventions. Please, I'd really appreciate any help.

And on that note, are there any meet-ups or anything planned for Tekkoshocon? Is anybody here going? Anyone going to plan one? (o3o)

Also, apologies if I did do something wrong with this entry...

I'm not an expert on Ottoman-era clothing, so I can't tell if its anachronistic or not. But I lived in Turkey and I know a little about the customes, and I'll share what I know.

Sadiq's shirt is probably a gömlek, a sort of thin, sheer long-sleeved shirt, covered by a sleeveless long robe (maybe a hırka?). The Ottoman-era robes I've seen, like the highly coveted kaftans or yelek, were sleeved, but it looks like Sadiq didn't wear sleeved robes. The hırka is the only Ottoman robe I've seen that was sleeveless. Normally the robe would be cinched with a sash called a kuşak, but it doesn't look like he's wearing a sash in these strips. Anyway, the veil covering the lower half of his face is called a yaşmak, and was worn by women. I knew modern day Turkish women who wore them (they were from the Karadeniz [Black Sea] region, not Istanbul, where I lived) but a lot of Turkish women go about unveiled today, at least in the cities.

The strips don't show Sadiq below the waist, but presumably he wore shalwar, light comfortable trousers. The turban on his head was an ornate sarık; his is probably red and white striped (green is reserved for Sayyids, descendants of the Prophet Muhammad). The feather is probably an ostrich plume. One thing to remember is that the Ottomans LOVED bright colors, stripes, embroidery, etc. Wealthy people had clothes made out of silk, satin, and Italian brocade. The more well-to-do you were, the more ostentatious your clothes were. I've seen leather Ottoman boots in the museums in Istanbul that were decorated with the most beautiful embroidery you can imagine -- and these were riding boots someone put on to stomp around in mud and gallop about on their horse through rain and dust! The sultans at least had engraved swords (I saw the swords of Mehmet the Conqueror, who engraved his with his name in Arabic script) so I imagine Sadiq would have an engraved sword, too. One thing that was a little odd is that they didn't wear a lot of jewelry, other than rings.

I know nothing of the Ottoman/Turkish fashion matter, but I do know that there will be a toooon of hetalia cosplayers at tekko. Of the cosplayers I know personally, we have prussia, germany, japan, italy, china, america, england, russia, france, latvia, ukraine, possibly austria. That's only one group of cosplayers, I'm sure there will be others.

there is a meet-up being planned for tekko, though no details have been finalized yet, and I know that I personally will be there Saturday as America! Like others said, there will be a bunch of Hetalia cosplayers there :)

Ohhhh, hm, not that I know of. But obviously, I don't know everyone. :)
there is going to be a meetup/photoshoot saturday night at some point, the times are still getting worked out, but if you check the forums there's a thread for hetalia meetups, and a thread tracking all meetups. They are always being updated.
