Okay, wow. That's absolutely insane. And here I thought the price I paid for the German Rose of Versailles manga was over the top. XD

[identity profile] siiy.livejournal.com 2011-09-12 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard that some people ask €200 for the first volume of Viewfinder, I already found that shocking [who'd even pay that??] but .. €700.. ? o_o

The mangas on ebay.com have gotten more expensive as well, though not THAT much more expensive yet. I'm soooo glad I bought my volume 1 and 2 from my birthday money and didn't wait until Christmas (as originally planned)!
This is just insane.

[identity profile] dilemina.livejournal.com 2011-09-12 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)

Stop keeping me from LJ, tumblr.

Wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-was.
...I would understand if it was ebay because duh, this site is full of fail but AMAZON.

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2011-09-12 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, this doesn't surprise me in a way. When manga and anime go out of print, someone almost always tries to jack the price up on sites like Amazon for ridiculous prices like that. It's slightly surprising here since Hetalia only recently went OOP, but seeing people try to pull this on used sales on Amazon is nothing new.

This actually doesn't surprise me. After Sailor Moon went OOP back in 2005, those kinds of prices were common for the DVDs, manga and the CDs on Amazon.ca (the US branch had cheaper prices but still expensive). The Memorial Music Box Collection went for over 1000 CDN dollars! Even worse, it may have been a bootleg copy. Legit copies were difficult to come by while it was in print (so I've heard).

Unless Hetalia gets re-licensed and re-published, expect to see these kinds of prices. You may get lucky elsewhere though!

WOW. O_O Isn't it possible to buy a used copy for a more reasonable price?

[identity profile] fantisci.livejournal.com 2011-09-12 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Some twit's trying the same trick on Amazon UK - it's not quite as drastic, but £151.16 ($239.66) is an insane amount to pay for a manga that was freely available until recently.

Someone please tell me that these are greedy entrepreneurs and not actual manga fans.

[identity profile] shuriken7.livejournal.com 2011-09-12 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
They are trying it on the American site too. The highest listed one is $1000 USD. However the lowest for vol. 1 is $25 and vol. 2 is $35. That's insane.

[identity profile] idraax.livejournal.com 2011-09-12 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
WTF? That is insane! I can find out of print books for cheaper than that!

[identity profile] inunobaka.livejournal.com 2011-09-12 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
And nobody thought it might just actually be an error, as in the manga would be about 7,03 €?
I know some online money converter sometime mess the results up a bit, so it could be just that?
(It's a normal price in France for a manga so it sounds more likely. Especially since those are English and most likely sold in dollars or pounds at first.)

[identity profile] juandalyn.livejournal.com 2011-09-12 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, normally a Tokyopop Manga would be about 6,50€.

Sometimes I'm glad that I just bought the Japanese version.

[identity profile] kenzi-chi.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
D: I didn't expect all this to happen. Volume 2 was actually hard for me to find (not that I looked around much, just Borders) so I'm glad I finally found a copy before all this..

[identity profile] randamonian.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
No, that's not surprising at all. Heaps of people try to jack up the price of something the second they percieve it may be 'valuable'. Nobody is ever going to buy that unless they're idoitic or extremely desperate.

Besides, once they have the copy, they'll just feel ripped off when they see the pixellated pages. That is one thing that really bothered me about the release. Prussia's beautiful face was never meant to be blurred like that.

Personally, it's easy for me to get new copies at comic book stores in Sydney. No problem. I don't know how things run up in Deutschy land, but you just need to hunt around for them at any and all comic book stores. It'll be somewhere.

[identity profile] bosscookie.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
What what whaaat? You could buy like...a house of cakes with all that money! Silly Tokyopop.

[identity profile] hausdracheyuka.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually have it on my wishlist... ^^° But it's been a while since I last looked at it and well, it seems I don't have to do so the next time, right XD
Aww, it's to bad ^^ I'll just keep reading them online and if I ever maybe perhaps I don't know get one, I'll keep it for hard times :D:D:D

[identity profile] cloddiehoppers.livejournal.com 2011-09-15 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Glad I still have my own copies of vol. 1 and 2. I bought mine from Sakuramedia anime store back when they were released and I had to wait a month because of shipping delay back then. When they finally got them in, it was only 10 copies. I was probably lucky to snag one of the remaining copies. I was really waiting to use my store credit on vol. 3 though...

[identity profile] leahcinnamon.livejournal.com 2011-09-16 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
animexx? OHHHH, you're german, right? I'm on animexx too :D My username is the same like this one.
