Howdie! This is the first time I've posted here. In a conversation with a friend, she urged me to post this incredibly unfinished comic I recently posted to my LJ and not here ('cause it'll be unfinished for a while due to a other comics taking precedence. :x)

Note: Texans don't really act like they're part of America sometimes, and like to harbor the grudge, even now. Usually people fly Texas flags instead of US flags (except during election year apparently).

I made this way back in 2008 (XD) so I can't remember FOR THE LIFE OF ME what else was supposed to happen, other than some wacky interactions with France, and just the Republic of Texas haunting America-kun in general, and them eventually sealing Texas up back into America's glasses. :I

Unfortunately I think the Civil War kind of crushed the constitutional idea that states are allowed to secede anytime they want. 6_6;

It's not just texas, almost the entire south is like that. I went to Missouri and was creeped out by the amount of rebel flags infesting that place.

I always wondered why America's glasses represent Texas. Anything to do with ppl believing that b/c Texas was once an independent republic it could still, if it wanted to, leave the union? Who knows.

Hahaha, well the South is kind of a different matter themselves, too. XD You don't see as many Confederate folk here as you do in South Carolina.

Texas was part of the Confederate States but... they're not so much supporting the Confederate States, but really more for the Republic. Republic-of-Texas folk like to argue about that bit of history too (saying that the Texas secession with the Confederate states was all part of the plan to go back to being a Republic again, but then the Civil War happened). 9_9;

I'm a Texan, but since I live in a suburb of Houston, I don't see much "rebellion". The farther west you go it gets to be more like you say. We are pretty independent and proud of our state, though. xD

I remember the Texas flag pledge. :D I remember how annoyed everyone was when they made our school finally start doing the US pledge in addition to the Texas pledge. We were all like "awwww man, at least the Texas one was short D:"

I never knew many people in Texas wants to secede and from what I've read in the comments here, they seem more inclined to leave than Quebec ever will.

Quick question, probably slightly OT, but, is there any laws regarding if a state wants to leave?

Yeah, I haven't inked the rest of the comic, but basically the "seal" the US was referring to was that his ghost was "sealed away" into America's glasses... and somehow he got out. XD

Texas is a little weird with the secession, but I'm sure about the same as Quebec, except Canada didn't have a terrible Civil War that crushed its will to secede. XD


As for the laws, in the US Constitution, states and state governments (which act as the "will of the people") are supposed to be able to.

However, when the Confederate States seceded from the US during the civil war, the US government basically ignored the constitution (US presidents love ignoring the constitution, it seems) and used the executive power to declare war and force them back into the United States. So technically (originally), yes, they were supposed to be able to, but then after the Civil War, it set the precedent that "no, you're not allowed to, or else we'll shoot you." :/

Fun facts: The Texas flag is the only flag which can be raised at the same height as the American flag.

There are two kind of politics in Texas - Republican and Austin (I don't live in Austin, but I'd fall under that category |D)

Actually! Other states are also allowed to raise their flags at the same height as the US flag, too. :) But I never really see that much when I go out of state, I usually only see that in Texas. XD

I'm gonna guess you probably live in either Dallas, Houston, or Austin (or not in Texas at all) XD;

I think both California and Texas would have the best chances post-secession, just because their GDP ranks up in the top 15 alongside the top countries in the world. California really has a much higher GDP than Texas, (just not a state government made from the remnants of a national government).

(Personally, I've never felt any consensus that Texans as a whole seriously want to leave the Union. We just like to point out ad nauseum that we CHOSE to join unlike that big dumb showoff Alaska. Plus we're in love with our spicy fusion food and armadillos and rolling hill country and oh god oh god I wanna go home even if Houston is all gross and humid the whole year round aaaauuugh.)

I like that he doesn't say anything, by the way. Just...glares.
