[Fanart] For His Kingdom - Preview Work
Title: For His Kingdom - Preview Work
Artist:
mishkedehbizikh
Character(s): France, England, Scotland (OC)
Rating: G
Warnings: None now. Language, violence, and historical religious content later.
Summary: For His Kingdom is a webcomic style doujinshi that will be released throughout the year in 3-6 page batches. It will be 10 chapters long and follow the campaign of Jeanne d’Arc with special attention paid to historical accuracy. Set in the Hetalia universe, the characters of France and England, as well as an OC of Scotland, will play major roles throughout with important human figures of the day interacting with them. Though written for entertainment, the main purpose of the doujin is to educate both about this key event in the First Hundreds Years War as well as the culture and fashions of the day.

The History
Why are there fleur-de-lys on England's flag?
As two kings prior had, it was a symbolic way to lay English claim on the French throne by Henry VI.
Why are France's allegiance colors an inverted St. George's Cross?
It's actually in no way related to St. George's Cross! After receiving aid from Swiss mercenaries in the early 15th century, who, as we all know, use the white cross with red background as their national flag later on, the French adopted the colors as means of identification on the battlefield.
What exactly are they wearing?
Armor in the medieval period was not always the expensive suits of armors as seen on knights of yore. The studded garment England wears is a brigandine, a type of armor consisting of canvas or leather with small oblong steel plates riveted onto the fabric. Modern day flak jackets are based on basically the same principle as these - use metal plates inside protective fabric for maximum flexibility and protection.
Note that Scotland's coloring is based off a single painting from the 1800s and that many reference particular to Scotland I could not find and are based off the allegiance colors of France.

Follow my art journal (the one I'm posting with) in order to follow the comic as it's posted! Thanks so much for looking!
