Question and, uh, question?

I feel really awkward asking about something so simple so I'm gonna gather an opinion on something else while I'm at it, if that's okay. orz;;
Well, to put it simply, I lost the jacket I was gonna use for cosplaying Austria. I don't really care having to make it, except it bugs me to the max if it isn't accurate, and for it to be accurate I really wanna find out where the hell that coat came from...

So does anyone know, historically, where Austria's usual blue frockcoat-esque thing is from?

I'm kind of assuming it's a uniform from some time period, but I've searched and searched and haven't found anything, and am kinda worried I'm just missing something really obvious. Maybe I missed a post here, in fact, haha. But hell, if it turns out to be just a general victorian coat by consensus, wing it I shall.

Now the opinion is a little weirder. Basically, I'm making a MAD-esque music video thing involving Hetalia and the song 'Viva la Vida' by Coldplay (Because I can't stop my ideas, man). Anyone who's listened to the song or knows about the album should know it's very much about revolution and things like that, which means I can't not-think about Hetalia when I hear it. I've been trying to figure the countries to use in the video (which obviously is revolution-themed, with some added fallen-ruler theme). Right now I've got the UK, France, Russia, Rome, and maybe China. I'm kinda trying to stick to more main-character countries, but if I get some great image in my head involving a littler-known country then I'll totally run with it.

Uh. Yeah. That's all. I hope this is okay. D: (Am I using the right tags?)

Edit: Thanks for all the help guys. :'D

Question 1: Dunno. Actually, it ressembles something like a musician's performing cloak, but I could be really wrong on that one.

Question 2:
You could add Canada (see: Quiet Revolution/Révolution Tranquille in Quebec in the 60s after the end of Quebec Premier Maurice Duplessis' administration in 1959 a period that became known as the "Great Darkness".). Mind you, it was a social, cultural, no-blood-at-all revolution which helped shape Quebec into what it is today. And I believe we're the only nation on the planet who's had a bloodless revolution. :o

In addition though, there were two rebellions pre-Confederation (before Canada became Canada) I think. Upper Canada or Lower Canada...don't remember now.

I love Upper Canada Village <3

The rebellions are the Rebellions of 1837 where both Upper and Lower Canada were rebelling around the same time. While it was a major failure initially, it was significant enough that it helped lead to Confederation.

out of curiousity, and honestly not meaning to wank, what's your definition of revolution? I just want to know if I get to tout my country's People's Power revolution

For your first question, it kind of reminds me of almost a late 17th century coat, like when the great composers were alive (motzart, beethovan, etc.)

And the second, the song makes me think either US and UK, or when I look at the album cover it reminds me of a picture of Napoleaon so I think France...

q1: I'm tempted to say it's an 18th century-inspired dress coat because of the color and the fact that Austria wears a jabot with it.

q2: I only think of France whenever I hear that song because of the Delacroix painting on the cover actually. Ah, you could include Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania (together they participated in the "Singing Revolution" overthrowing Soviet rule).

I have to agree that I believe it is some musicians' coat >D
I mean, Austria DOES play piano alot xD

Oh, Indeed >D

Hello!

q1: The thing Austria wears is, I assume, a "Rock" - worn by (Austrian?) noblemen in the 18th century. As a child, Mozart was given a red "Rock" by the empress but later his father told him not to wear clothes like that because they are only for noblemen. Eh... "Rock" is basically the old Austrian word for "coat".

q2: Oh, "viva la vida"! I love that song! It's about Henry VIII, actually, but I think you can interpret a lot of meaning into it. So I really like your idea of using it for a historical music video (I'd love to see it when it's done!)! But, oh, I can't really answer your question... I mean, Austrian revolutions always fail and German revolutions usually fail and... that's all I know about.

I hope I could help you with what little knowledge I have. orz

Let's see, I think I do have Mozart pictures but there are at home and I'm not >_<

Here is a contemporary painting of Mozart as a child:

Some say that this is the garment he was given by the empress, but other sources claim that the coat was red. Idk.

Maybe you could use this as a reference (though it's obviously not historical - but the guy in the red coat is supposed to be Mozart):

I hope this is useful. XD

1. Yes, I'm also going with the idea of it being an 18th century noblemans coat, though I know that doesnt narrow it down by a lot! Sorry! XD;;

2. OH MY GOD! O_O I've had that song on my 'Hetalia Playlist' on my iPod since it first came out, and I've been desperately wanting to make a MAD to it too! Though I never will as I dont know how...ah ha ha. ^_^;; Personally, I can only think about the British Commonwealth when I listen to it (The rise and fall of the Empire) so I wanted to devote my MAD to dearest Arthur (So patriotic XD) but I really, really look forward to seeing your take on it!
Squee, how exciting!

[identity profile] fabledquill.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHA GOOD JOB.

uh
there are loads of countries in Central America, but I don't think there are any other nation-tans for them.
but idk.... I don't think so, though.

[identity profile] fabledquill.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 01:28 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] fabledquill.livejournal.com 2009-03-10 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, idk, they didn't play a huge part in WWI, so that may be unlikely....
Himaruya really needs to get on that - you can't just leave an entire continent hanging. :|

Yeah..... I wish there were. :c
