[REQUEST] Hints for draw some Nordics fanarts
Hi! I tried to post this to
aph_request , but with no success... I will try to ask the main community here, hoping there will be someone willing to help. Thanks to
kurukurumaki for the previous help! (loves and sends kisses)
[Copied-pasted from my old post]
I have become very interested in Scandinavian culture, most of all I found myself intrigued with Denmark and Norway (and I don't mean only the characters, but the real nations themselves). I like to draw my personal character interacting with other anime/manga people, and when I started to like Hetalia, it was easy for me to draw Ita-chan and Romano, England, France and Spain, I know these nations pretty well so it's easy for me.
But I simply can't draw anything with the Nordics, and that makes me really sad. I don't like go around the internet to find stuff. Or rather it should be said: I really don't know what to search.
So I'm asking you, if you are from Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Finland or Sweden, to help, because I really want to draw them. I'd like to do meaningful drawings, inspired by something real. I'd like to draw monuments, particular places, something like a touristic trip to your country (recently I've started draw England staring at Westminster Abbey, for example). Plus, I would like to know typical foods (for make bento... I know I'm strange I do strange things XD), or.. anything else.
I'm not good at drawing, but I always try my best, so... Please be patriotic and help me T_T
If you're not from there but you would like to help, you're very welcome too!! I'm always happy when I can receive hints.
Another thing. I'm searching for Danish friends, who are willing to help me learn Danish. I'm trying to do it alone, but I don't understand your grammar T_T (not to mention, I would like to learn Norwegian and Sweden too... I know, I know, my brain will explode)
BTW, if you're wondering, I'm Italian. Cheers ^_-

I'm from Sweden and can probably help here
The midsummer festival is basically;
Eating strawberries with whipped cream, dance around the midsummer pole (maybe in traditional clothes, or with a ring of flowers in your hair. The may pole is a pole with flowers on, if you search for "midsommarstång" you'll find pictures), and eat/drink a lot ^^
Also, I like the 1st may celebrations, where we have our bonefires and fireworks. The swedish winter is long so we really like to celebrate spring and when it's getting warm outside ^^ Maybe you can draw Berwald finding the first "tussilago" of the year? :D (it's flower that blooms very early on the spring and it makes every swede happy to see them!).
About food. Well, the sandwich cake is very pretty and funny to draw. If you search for "smörgåstårta" you'll find pictures.
So to conclude things you can search for; midsommar, midsommarstång, lucia, tussilago, smörgåstårta.
I hope this helped you a bit :3

I think there are some 1st may demonstrations going on too for the International Worker's Day, but people who demonstrate are usually politically involved I think xD I just watch the bonefires :D
Another thing that might be interesting, ice bathing!; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7vNholauR4

As for the other thing, I don't like to search things on Wikipedia, if I do not have already an idea. I prefer to receive hints from directly someone who feels the things I want to draw. I don't like to draw "cold-hearted". That is difficult for me to explain... I want to draw something that has a meaning other than for me, even if that is for just one other person ^^ and if I go only on Wikipedia (for example) I can read about lots of things, but I never know the sensations you feel.

Poi esistono programmi multimediali abbastanza buoni di lingua danese, certo sarebbe più divertente trovare un mail friend danese che ti insegni il danese magari in cambio di lezioni d'italiano... :3

//is from Norway
In terms of traditional and cultural things, skiing is pretty big in Norway. We even have a 'joke' ongoing that we're all born with skis on our feet.
Like rabieskatten mentioned about Sweden, Norwegians also celebrate Lucia.
there's a good video about in on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__k8qIwWVdw
we're also very, very fond of 'Sankt hans', to the point we build really tall structures and then set fire to them

Every 17th of may we celebrate our independence day. a lot of flag waving and more importantly: Bunad!
Bunad is our traditional costume and will vary in colour, pattern and even material depending where in the country you're from
this site has a few good pictures of some of them

on the concept of learning the Scandinavian languages:
I know that as a Norwegian, understanding Swedish and Danish is fairly easy. A Scottish friend wanted to learn Faroese, but for convenience he learned Norwegian instead, since it's a 'mix' between the other Nordic languages (IDK how easily Danish and Swedish people understand each other or how easily they understand Norwegian, but the ones I've known seem to understand understand me fine XD )
Grammar wise: it's fairly similar to German.
hope that helps ^^
Re: //is from Norway
Second, OMG that thing is HUGE!!! °____° *imagines Nor that throws Den off the top*EHM*
Bunad is like kimono in Japan? I think i can draw a Norway wearing that, it seems rather easy compared to other traditional dresses. It has a "monochromatic" feeling XD
I never learned German, but I know basically that Scandinavian languages derives from it. Since Italian is a neo-latine language, the grammar is very different, that is the problem. Even some pronunciations are difficult for me (italian/french linguistic zone). I feel like I'm about tho explode @___@
Re: //is from Norway
hmm, i suppose it kinda is. they can vary a lot in detail. but all of them usually have a lot of real silver on them. The men's bunad often have several silver buttons so the overall cost of the Bunad is really, really expensive.
just don't give up! a funny way to learn a language is to get childrens books and shows in the language you want to learn. start with the basics and work your way up ^^

I've been told we're the only country not to use anything military (tanks and stuff like that) in our parades. I'm not sure if this is true anymore - but for a long time it msot certnaly was the case XD
it's a big deal for us. parades are held all over the world in almsot any country on the 17th of May.
fills me with joy and pride to wander around in my national costume and signing songs - it's jsut so fun ^^
