[Fanart] The King in the Mountain
Title: The King in the Mountain

Characters: Holy Roman Empireand Frederick Barbarossa who isn't really a Hetalia character but

Description: Playing again with Holy Roman Empire and the legend of his boss, Frederick Barbarossa: King in the Mountain

Legend says that Holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa didn't really die in the Third Crusade, but he's actually sleeping in a cave in the Kyffhäuser mountain, and one day he'll wake and return the Holy Roman Empire to its former glory--on the day when the ravens stop flying around the mountain. Also with Barbarossa in the cave is a boy whom he sends to check and see if the ravens are still there, so I put Holy Roman Empire as the boy, waiting and wishing for things to get better.
Also, the German Empire was apparently so convinced of the HRE=Germany theory that they built a monument using the Barbarossa legend just to prove this point.

I'm not sure what it's called either, actually, I just know I like it. I end up switching between terms like shading, cross-hatching, and patterning. It took forever to do only because I sat around for days going "Aaah it's going to take forever!", but it was actually pretty quick once I stopped being terrible.

Thanks for sharing! ^o^

This legend will never be not fun to play with!
Already did one fic with it, still plotting how to go about making a fic involving Germany and/or people actually going to the monument and stuffI made the art really simplified so I wouldn't mess it up too much, but I think the feeling came through really well anyway--melancholic, like you said. I'm glad you thought so too!

Anyway, really cute. I love the use of cross hatching/shading/I'm not an artist and therefore don't know what its called and google refuses to tell me. It gives a really great effect. :D

I'd never heard of the legend until pretty recently, when I came across it by accident
I just liked Barbarossa because his name was cool. But Wikipedia has a whole page listing people who've got legends like this, besides just King Arthur (who was the only one I'd ever heard of as a Sleeping Hero).I don't really know what it's called either, actually! I just copied the idea from other people because of that great effect. So I tend to switch between calling it shading and cross-hatching and patterning.

Hahah, it's like they shipped HRExChibitalia or something~
Ah, all silliness aside, this is cool! I like your style, very texture-y looking~

It's just another example of how Hetalia makes everything so much more amazing, haha.
