You can't handle the truth (2)

Title: You can't handle the truth pt. 2
Author/Artist: Ceralennox
Character(s) or Pairing(s): America, (implied) France/America, Russia/America, Canada/America
Rating: PG
Warnings: Obesity?
Summary: There's a difference between what everyone thinks Alfred looks like, and what he actually looks like.

I said I'd make an America one, so here it is! Tada!

So yeah, everyone (including the show) always makes fun of America's weight, though he himself is not fat because of his workouts and Japanese diet plans. XD He does eat like a fatass though, but still. So yeah. That's what he really looks like. -twinkly-fangirl- eyes- He's so hot. >.< Even though I drew him terrible (cannot draw real anime, can you tell? XD) He's all muscular and crap. I just feel Alfred needs more love.

So in case you didn't see my England version, here it is: http://community.livejournal.com/hetalia/9020394.html#cutid1

Hello. All fanart must include the fanwork information, the template is located in he community profile, please add it to this post and the previous one. Also, in the future please be mindful on how many times you post something within a day. Thank you.

Um...I hate to contradict or seem offensive, but have you SEEN Americans? More than half of the United States is overweight. And if you're going to stereotype like in your England comic (with the bad teeth and all) you should stereotype in this one. And the American stereotype is to be obese.

....the drawings were cute, though.

[identity profile] nohohonzoku.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well the show/comic doesn't really stereotype at all. I mean, they SAY he's obese and then draw him like a swimsuit model.

And, really, drinking tea is one of the only stereotypes necessary to convey a British person. That, funny accents, bad teeth, and the queen. (I'm American too, and that's more than enough for me to think "England" [SORRY IF I OFFEND ANYONE, REALLY, BUT THIS IS HETALIA])

1st picture: Everyone makes EVERYONE hot. Reality: ugly people are everywhere.

2nd: This is Hetalia. The POINT is to make fun of countries. :|

And I don't mind that you don't like England. I hated him for awhile too. But if you're going to totally draw someone hideous and then turn around and make the other one look beautiful, it kind of annoys me. That's all I'm saying.

Hahaha. I totally see where you're coming from, because I hate USUK and how some people make England so feminine. Weeellll...I've totally lost all my steam and/or track of thought. So you can just have this comment:

....the drawings are cute.

hm. i personally love USUK (if you don't, whatever) but i'll agree with you on that point; I HATE blushy, super moe england. it drives me fucking insane. idk about you, but i like my men manly, and last time i checked (assuming we're not talking about teh fem!versions) Arthur was a man. SO DRAW HIM LIKE ONE. I'm sorry but some pics i've seen of him, he has bigger hips than any girl i know!

And ok, yea, he's fallen quite a bit, but c'mon. He's still a major world power. So please treat him like one, ok? i could rant on for hours about my hatered of Arthur's apparent feminst charms, but...i'll shut up now.

[identity profile] nohohonzoku.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, I HATE it when the hips are enormous. And you're totally right.

Sorry to interfere. If it can be of any comfort : IRL, UK has the same problem than US (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1173148/British-women-dont-mind-Europes-biggest-French-females-slimmest-worry-weight.html) (and obesity is spreading all over the world anyway).

Lol, do I see some bias here? :P

So cute though :D

But again, isn't the "truth the fandom cannot handle" pretty much all over fandom? I've yet to see a fanart or read a fic that doesn't at least acknowledge if not downright emphasise that America is one muscular and sexy hunk. Alfred does get plenty of love in the fandom, but maybe you frequent completely different parts from what I do.

Even the Satw-comics (http://humon.deviantart.com/gallery/) (made by a Danish girl and unrelated to Hetalia, but with the same concept of personified countries) have America, while constantly eating with a preference for sweets, looking muscular and fit. (And the Scandinavian stereotypes about America is probably among the harshest you will find.)

But mostly, this is false advertisement:
Bashing one character and glorifying another is not treating them the same. When you promised a comic that would do a similar thing to America as the previous one did to England, I kinda expected them to be similar comics not be completely opposite from each other. You totally could have made a whole series of how Hetalia (canon and fandom) beautifies the countries, but the reality would have them look like their most hideous stereotypes. (Like giving France armpit hair longer than his regular hair, or give Germany a beergut, plenty of potential.) Not that I think you were ever obliged to do so simply because you made one or two comics with a potentially similar theme, I'm just saying the potential for humor was there.

And this isn't so much about being offensive as it is about you having your bias-goggles on while ironically accusing others of wearing theirs. I love being offended as long as there's some humor and tounge in cheek. But this isn't tounge in cheek, this is just whining. The humor's kind of lost, which is a shame because like I said it had potential.

I already know your own comment to this will be TL;DR, but I'm writing more for my own sake here. Bias is one thing, but false advertisement? Shame on you.

On the other hand, you do draw well. I seriously think the second drawing of America is really good, I've definitively seen far worse.
