And that's supposed to be Georgia in the background. Except I don't know what Georgia's supposed to look like, so he's a generic silhouette >_>;

You are not the only one who sees everything as Hetalia, the moment I heard that the presidents are going to Tbilisi, Hetalia!bunnies started popping out, my sketchbook is going to be abused, because it just won't disappear from my brain.

Yeah, when I read that article, I was like "OOOH THEY'RE UNITING AS ONE!!!". I wanted to draw something more epic and with all five, but god I am so sleep @__@; Could hardly get through Latvia, which is why he is the most fail.

I guess I just haven't run across Ukraine in my Hetalia fanart folders...

It's a pretty complicated issue and very much a story of "she said/he said", er, except with serious business.

I don't think Georgia was right in going into Ossetia, but I definitely think Russia's use of disproportionate military power and continued bombing even after a ceasefire agreement (and looting cities in Georgian territory after Georgia agreed to cease the war (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/georgia_russia)) makes it seem like the "protecting ethnic minorities" is a pretext for reasserting hard power in the region. I mean, Russia does not have a history of caring for minority interests, except when they want to take over countries. Bad track record --> suspicion.

Russia-Georgia disputes really gives me a bad feeling and just recently Russia-China became my OTP too! >_<;; Making me feel worse -_-;;

I won't take side on either country. I'd rather see Russia-Georgia end the dispute between them by themselves and not dragging other country into this problems, most preferably with more civilized way, like, deliberation or something.

Ideally that'd be the situation, but I'm glad the E.U. is intervening on Georgia's behalf, because it's difficult to have fair negotiations when one of the countries just completely dominated the other country and has a much larger population, land size, military, everything. At least with the E.U. helping out, Russia can't pressure Georgia into an extremely disadvantageous position.

Also, if countries could work things out on their own, Israel-Palestine would not be continuing. Politics OTL;

It's all over the news, sadly. But at least it's KIND OF over now. Russia and Georgia are countries more integrated with the developed nations than, say, the Middle East, so hopefully the E.U. will be able to exert its power to get them to play nice D:

America is scared to do anything diplomatically that might hurt its image more. But that's why the E.U. is there. France is the one mediating the issue right now. I actually think it's a really good shift in power for Europe to manage things in Europe and take that pressure off America (I mean, the world wars were what dragged America onto the international stage and eventually made it a busybody anyways)

The war between Russia and Georgia. Georgia invaded South Ossetia to reclaim it and Russia like...SQUASHED IT. In 5 days. Now there is much tension between Russia, Georgia, E.U. and America. Fun times.

I love how I should be feeling offended since this is.. was, is, ..tension-war with wtfery juxtaposed to the Olympics; but, um, this is too epic, so I can't. xD

Gaw, I hate our news coverage over the whole ordeal though; I'm glad the reporters are trying to get everything straight, right, accurate through as first-hand as they can account for, but how a ton of other medias are being so biased. I swear, Bush trying to get involved made me want to punt some babies; oh, the hypocrisy. I was so proud of the E.U.s for attempting to do something; thank you, Sarkozy. Scary how they compare Russia's move to attack Georgia to "protect Russian citizens" to Hitler's insistence on having Sudetenland to protect the German-speaking population there.
