[Cosplay] Gakuen in Times Square

So, by some amazingly weird (but cool) coincidence, I have the same birthday as Belarus (Aug 25) and to celebrate the ocasion, a few cosplayer friends got together in NYC and did a Gakuen shoot between sight seeing and having fun. Being that Gakuen takes place in NYC, it was really appropriate and extra fun! Everyone who came was great and I am so grateful to everyone! There are some awesomely hilarious pictures which will definitely be shared! However, I really wanted to make a separate post with these particular shots, as it might be something that would interest people not into cosplay, and because I have a question/request.

For those of you who didn't know, August 14th marked the 65th anniversary of V-J day, the day Japan surrendered to the US and ended World War II. Obviously, it was a very important day, and when the news hit Times Square, people were so happy they were kissing strangers in the street. There is a VERY famous shot of a sailor kissing a nurse that I'm sure most of you have seen, it is a very important and iconic photo. Every year they do reenactment of that kiss in Times Square, but this year, they actually had a statue of it on display. So when we were on our way to Port Authority to catch our bus home, still in our Hetalia Gakuen cosplay, we decided to try and find the statue! Unfortunately, the display was limited, and it was already gone! However, we still took a few fun shots around Times Square, including a recreation of this kiss.

We did not have a reference photo!!!! So it is not perfect recreation, we were doing it from memory! But we did get one really good shot of America and Belarus, as well as a funny one with Lithuania and Russia. Those shots are under the cut, along with a few others! (Poor Lithuania got to be bag boy >D)
America - [livejournal.com profile] heavensealed
Belarus - [livejournal.com profile] ginnyseta

Russia/Photographer - [livejournal.com profile] aznlunchboxxx
(And for the record, that was NOT a real kiss, LOL.)

The fullsized shot of the BelAme pic is up on my da, while the original historical photo is here. I am just curious, are there other cosplays or fanarts of Alfred doing this pose with any other characters? Belarus/America is my (extremely cracked) OTP so of course I'd love to see more of that, but I feel like this is a shot every America pairing should have in some way shape or form, it is such an iconic pose! Please share if you have any!

BUT THIS IS SO CUTE.

You guys came pretty damn close without a reference...! Great job!

Happy belated birthday, too! >w<

((Awesome night shots too, those rarely look good... I guess all the lights from Time Square were really useful for that! xD))

I'm so excited to run around the city during NYAF! Though I'm hoping to visit more often in general now that there's a Megabus from Providence to the city~

((Yes we should...!! What are your plans so far?))

"Gakuen takes place in NYC"

It does?!

Awesome pictures! (And where did you get that fabric, [livejournal.com profile] heavensealed, it is PERFECT.)

Ayup~ The school is in NYC. ouo The backgrounds of the inside screenshots are from the NYPL, too. XD

I got it online~ I...think the supplier is out of stock of that particular fabric, though. ono Sorry Mama Sey!

Well, I found this out on the Gakuen Hetalia Wiki page. XD Fun facts~

Yeah, sorry. ono I'm hoping they'll restock it, because it's such a lovely fabric.

Looks like you guys had fun! And you really found some great plaids for those Gakuen uniforms XD

I am just curious, are there other cosplays or fanarts of Alfred doing this pose with any other characters?

I drew the US/UK version of it, here. As you said, it's such an iconic image!

That's lovely~

I'm sure Bela was much more willing than the original lady in the photograph. It looks romantic sure but she ...was a complete stranger. xD And notsowilling. Ah well, post-war enthusiasm. <3 *nottryingtobeakilljoysob*

Aw~ I would ask if people looked at you guys funny, but... it's NYC. Still, cute cosplay!

Also, I have the same birthday as Ukraine: August 24th. Happy late birthday to us ♥

Awesome pictures, as always. It is indeed one of the most ironic American images (though I'm sure the woman slapped that vent after the shutter clicked). Thanks to these photoshoot posts, America/Belarus has become one of my guilty pairings. Excuse me while I go cry in the corner at this realization *lol*

*ironic* and *vent* - sorry, meant to type 'iconic' and 'gent'

I like your original comment better. Tee hee.

LOL August 14 is my birthday and I didn't know that was the day Japan surrendered. I just found out when I read the top.

O yea I like your Gakuen cosplays!

Love your guy's cosplay!
I was up in NYC recently! I knew that it would be a perfect place for a shoot. (Aside from the torrents of people and tourists.)

And teehee... I feel sad for Lithuania... Having to carry all those bags, when the guy he worked for is dating his crush. But Russia got his goods big time.
HURRHURHURRRRR

D:< WHY ARE THERE NO PLACES LIKE THIS IN LA?! AUGHHHH.

Life's rough when you're a doormat, man. /le sigh.

Nice photos... What you might not know is the Nurse in the original photo recently passed away. I think people should let do this once.
