Animagic 2010 (now with added surprise Hetalia seiyuu :D) (+ photos)

This weekend I was at the Animagic 2010 convention in Bonn, Germany. There were some really amazing Hetalia cosplayer, but the really, really awesome bit was yet to come as a surprise. Originally, it was planned that Yasuhiro Nightow, mangaka of Trigun, should have an appearance as a guest of honor, along with Takahiro Yoshimatsu (character designer) and Satoshi Nishimura (director). During the opening ceremony on friday evening however, we were told that Nightow couldn't come. Instead, he had sent someone in his place who is quiiiiite well known in Japan.

Why am I telling you this? He's also quite well known among the Hetalia fandom. Want to know who it is?

Masaya Onosaka a.k.a. France! :D

You can probably guess how excited I was what with France being my favorite character, to be told I would be able to see him and get his autograph :) After announcing him, he and the rest of the Trigun team went on stage to say a first "hi" to the fans:

The pic is a bit blurry because I was sitting at the back, but you can still see him (a better pic will follow in this post ;)). He's in the red kimono.

The Trigun panel on saturday was pretty awesome as well. Masaya Onosaka was taking pics of the people sitting there and he was visibly enjoying himself. Two of my friends and me were the only Hetalia cosplayer during the panel XD People were asking questions and I was thinking about asking him something Hetalia related, but then I thought it wouldn't be okay, since it was a panel for Trigun, not Hetalia. After the q&a, my friends and I got in line for autographs and when it was our turn, we gave Masaya Onosaka Hetalia items to sign (which we had bought before, since we didn't have anything from our personal collection with us, considering it was on such a short notice). He was positively surprised that we knew who he is and that he voices France. Also, he asked me if I had watched the anime to which I replied yes and then he also wanted to know how/where I watched it, which I answered by saying I had imported and watched the DVDs. Afterwards, he wanted to take a picture of us :D

He was super nice and really keen on talking to his fans/taking pictures of/with them. On sunday, he as well as Yoshimatsu and Nishimura went for a walk near the Rhine river with their assistants and my best friend managed to ask if we could take a picture with him, to which he said yes :D By that time I, sadly, wasn't wearing my Austria cosplay anymore, but my Link (Legend of Zelda) cosplay. I cropped the pic because I figured Onosaka san is way more interesting than me XD

Yes, he was sooo lovely :D He took a lot of pics with Hetalia cosplayers and other people. The funny thing though was that no one from the Hetalia cosplayers knew that he voices France XD It took me and my friend to tell everyone (which lead to a huge: "WHAAAAAAT, REALLY????" reaction XD).

I saw Onosaka's picutres on twitter and twipic and kinda figured when I saw the special guest thing XD God, I'm jealous XD

I was so starstruck, I've got to admit that XD Normally, seiyuu aren't invited to Animagic (don't ask me why, though, I guess the Animagic organizers don't think that we care about Japanese VAs) so it was a real surprise. And I mean, he's a really, really well known seiyuu, so it was all the more amazing :D

Ich kann's mir vorstellen, er is ja nich grade unbekannt ich kenn seine Arbeit ja ursprünglich von wo anders (ich glaub als Zelos Wilder aus Tales of Symphonia), ich ärgere mich grad im Urlaub zu sein, weil so eine Chance is echt selten.

Ich war echt so baff. Aber anscheinend denken die bei der Animania echt, dass da kein Interesse/Bedarf besteht. Wir sollten die das mal wissen lassen, dass solche Ehrengäste durchaus auch klar gehen XD

Das können gerne alle Veranstallter wissen, weil ich denke die Fans würden sich über Seiyuus genauso freuen wie über Mangaka oder irgendwer anders, man sieht ja die Möglichkeit ist da und auch erwünscht. Da muss mal ein großer Brief die Runde machen. XD

Denke ich auch. Wie gesagt, da er nun mal da war haben wir praktisch einen Fuß in der Türe XD

Lucky! When Konishi was at AX I couldn't even see him during the panel (just my luck to sit right where the damn microphone was) and then I got a ticket to try and get an autograph but the line was too long and I was hungry *cries*

Aw D: But I guess there were many people. Not many Hetalia fans knew about it because it was announced during the opening ceremony and not many saw that one. I did tell a bunch of people about it, but they kinda... didn't realize it XD

The line to get into the panel was super long. :| Sad part is I bought three One Coins and one of them was America and I was gonna go get him signed but then hunger struck and I saw the line and I left with my bro to find McDonald's (which we didn't find either way)

Haha, that's exactly what happened with the other Hetalia cosplayers. Most people wouldn't recognize the seiyuu from just the name, but me being the seiyuu fanatic that I am... XDDD

It took me a few minutes to figure out that Konishi plays American when I read he was going to be at AX. XD but I got a few of their names/characters down. :D

I know! I told the Hetalia cosplayers by the Rhine about it, but it took some time for it to fully sink in XD Not many were present during the opening ceremony and that's why they didn't know. Oh and some also didn't know the names of the different seiyuu, so that contributed to them not knowing about it.

I see~ He went around saying: I am France! and mentioned that most people replied: Wow you really do sound like France. XDDD

After that a cosplayer gave him a peck on his cheeks and he was so shock too. XDD

Haha, it was actually more than a peck, she really kissed him on the cheek XD I stood right next to her when she did that XDDD

Aha~ No wonder he's so shock! He is a very shy person despite always making a fool and being funny. He is actually very shy when it comes to girls. X)

But still, lucky you and the girl who kissed him! XD

I think we were all shocked XD He also told us that he likes to stare after girls, but he's not that lucky with relationships.

Ah, France? You're so lucky that you got to meet ~~him~~ his voice actor. XD How big are the conventions in Europe? Here in the States they can get huge.

Well, they're not as huge as those in the US (I really, really wanna go to one in the US btw. XD), but they're quite big. Especially the Animagic.

I've only been to two conventions, and they were small compared to some I've heard about. I hope you can come cosplay with us sometime! :D

If I had known that I would really have considered attending the AnimagiC again xD If they'd really decide to invite more seiyuus I'd even buy a ticket again xD" I always thought it was kind of sad that nearly no japanese seiyuus are invited over here, but they probably really think we're not interested in VA much, especially if they aren't the german.

It's such a pity they didn't say that before. Actually, not many people at the con (especially the Hetalia cosplayer) didn't know he was there and who he was. Therefore, my friends and I were the only three Hetalia fans who went to the Trigun panel to get his autograph.

I think we have to let them know we want more seiyuu over here. We should write letters or send mails. The more, the better :D
