Mr. President+desperate to find a certain fanfic

Artist: Rabbit_lololol
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Mr. Jones
Warnings: J. Robert Openheimer (thus, blood and da bomb).

The guilt expressed by Openheimer in front of President Truman is the key for this piece.

Although it would be some time before Oppenheimer discovered how this dramatic competition to achieve geopolitical goals formed a backdrop to the use of the atomic bombs, he, unlike Truman, felt an appropriate revulsion at what he had helped achieve. When Oppenheimer met Truman for the first time on October 25, 1945, Truman asked Oppenheimer to guess when the Soviets would develop a bomb. When Oppenheimer said he did not know, Truman shot back that he did: “Never.” Unnerved, Oppenheimer said at one point, “Mr. President, I feel I have blood on my hands.” The president, furious at Oppenheimer, informed David Lilienthal, “I told him the blood was on my hands—to let me worry about that.” Apparently relishing this story, Truman later offered alternative versions. He told Dean Acheson, “I don’t want to see that son of a bitch in this office ever again,” and another time called him a “cry-baby scientist."

-- A Tragic Life: Oppenheimer and the Bomb

And now the important part: I've been trying to find a fic. Some nice fellas help me here? ;^;

So, basically it's an Alfred-centric fic in an AU where nations are no others than normal folks of their nationality. It is during WWII, Alfred as a ground soldier has been stationed in England, during which he encounters Arthur after being hospitalized. After, they are sent to France (post D-Day). It is also during this occasion that Alfred meets Francis and establishes relationship with Arthur. Later the Allies liberate a concentration camp and find Felix taking care of Toris (by singing a lullaby, which I found extremely cute) and it is also during this occasion that Arthur swears at two poor guards in perfect German (that scene was cute too ;w;). And then, well, Alfred's walk with Ivan, bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and finally Alfred standing in front of Lincoln's statue.

I, I just want to re-read it again because it's so tragically beautiful ;^; And FYI, this fic was posted one year ago (yeah...) Why I didn't put it in the memory?!!

Anyhow, For the curious souls,
Here goes my DA

Here go my previous entries:

The cool colors and the red of the blood...

How else could one feel, regardless of any justifications?

I'm guessing... numb?

Oh wow, this is a very evocative piece. It sends shivers up my spine just looking at it. Wonderful job.

Hauntingly beautiful and chilling. Your use of colors is always so powerful.

America's somber expression is very haunting. The atomic bombs are a subject not often touched in this fandom to the the touchiness of the subject, I applaud you for approaching it. Well done!

I'm afraid I don't know of the fic you are seeking; but from your descriptions, I really would like to read it!

I understand the scientist's feelings about the weapon he created, but without it the war would've gone on for a lot longer than it did. He felt for the people that died, I think, but the president had to think of his own people and the soldiers fighting and the nations that had already seen devastation and death. The bomb must have looked like the best option. "Let's show the world what we're capable of." If a war ends in peace or terror...its at least ended.
That's my idea, anyway. No matter what, it's incredibly depressing and heart-wrenching at what happened, but I'm one who doesn't feel regret about it.

Very touching drawing. I really like how he's not crying; he's serious and straightforward with his hands. The gradient from cool to warm is a lot more effective than regular full-colour.

I know which fanfic you mean! I read it as well, but I cannot remember who wrote it. It bugs me, cuz now I want to reread it...even though I think it made me want to cry the first time around. >< If I find it again I'll send you a link.

=^..^=~

With Al's expression, I don't think there should be a set look. He's a nation of many people, and some supported Truman while some didn't, so leaving it completely open to interpretation is the greatest thing.
I don't think his expression could even be covered in one word.

Your piece is shocking and beautiful. I loved the palette you used--it evokes just the right emotions.

(Also, I know the fic you're talking about. I wouldn't know the first place to look for it, but I hope you find it! Sorry for not being helpful ^^; )

I found this line quite chilling, and I can honestly only nod in agreement and sigh.

"In the final accounting, Oppenheimer’s was a tragic life, the life of a man who succeeded as a weapons maker and failed as a peacemaker."

You have a wonderful style, realistic enough to transfer the shock and pain that entails such a topic. The use of dull colours except for the blood gives a much stronger result and the quote only manages to give goosebumps. This is a powerful, yet sadly undiscussed topic in this fandom but I like to see this other side of Al's character to reflect that everyone has its dark and their light. And how, like in Oppenheimer's case, failures can help define their personality.

And... I just so happen to be the author of that story X3. Thank you so much for enjoying it and remembering it, even if you read it more than a year ago! It means a lot to me as an author and for a story that I hoped managed to convey the rawness of war, just as its aftermath, just like your picture.
