[Event] Alcon, England.
Hi folks! Alcon is just a couple of months around the corner, and just my luck, I've only just dicovered it! Is anyone else going? Perhaps a Hetalia group or mini-meet could be put together! I'm not normally the sort to try to organzse gatherings *shivers* but I haven't seen anyone mention this yet and time is running out! I hope I'm not doing anything wrong with this <_<;;; So here goes nothing! *nervous*
Okay! Alcon in a nutshell:
Alcon is: An anime convention. ((Though hands up if, like me, you immediately thought 'Alfred convention!' ))
Location: Leicester university in England. ( Googlemap'd link for ya )
Date: Thurs 9th September to Sunday 12th September.
Cost : £29 entry fee for the whole shindig.
Accomodation, if you need it: En-suite campus accommodation is available at £30 per night.
Attendance : It's a 700 people con, with 100 spaces left. If you want to go, you need to book before August 16th! Tick tock, tick tock!
Themed...? : Errr... no..yes... Sort of. Chose your clan: pirates, ninjas, mechs or vampires. Appropriate cosplay, optional.
Sounds like you can make it? Vaguely interested? A little more disorderly info is babbled info under the cut, or more practical info at the website for the con is here : http://www.alcon.org.uk/

hollyrose_hime kindly pointed me in the direction of some relevant links about the Hetalia meets at Alcon! Thank you!:

Babble:
I've seen a few cons here and there in my time, but never an Alcon before, so I can only tell you what I've read. All the usual con events and panels are there, and a few unexpected ones. LittleKuriboh (abridged!) is going, I'm so excited XD I haven't booked my tickets just yet as I'm still umming and ahhing over whether should take my un-enthusiastic boyfriend and force him to reluctantly endure a convention against his better judgement, or go alone and be utterlynervous and terrified brave, because I'm a wuss at public gatherings <_<;; But one things for certain, I am going either way!
No Hetalia-y gathering is currently organised for Alcon to my knowledge, but that's what I'm hoping will come of this post. I'm not really the sort who can confidently organize or host meets, but I'd still like to know if any of the LJ Hetalia fandom turn up so I can say 'hello' at the very least!
I've got my piece-together CD!Iggy costume, but I'm also hoping to purchase another, maybe, for later in the con. No time for me to sew one from scratch now, so I wont get to be in the masquerade u_u I will be at the Cosplay Picnic and hanging around artists ally though, probably.
An interesting little feature of the con is its clan system. When you register, you can choose 'pirates', 'ninjas', 'mechs' or 'vampires', and any points you win during the convention events (like gaming tournaments, cosplay showdown, quizes or Iron artist) goes towards your clan. Needless to say, as a Pirate!Iggy fan, I will be joining the Pirate clan (if there's space left in that clan when i join!). You're encouraged to show your support for your clan with some cosplayness, but it's far from expected of you. Ah, if only I could go there in pirate Iggy cosplay! Maybe I can get a hat or patch or something at least <_<
I know there are a lot of artists in this community too, and I'm thinking of requesting a table at artists alley as I maaayyy have a USxEngland doujinshi to sell, if I work really fast and can finish on time! But one doujinshi? Pssh, hardly worth having a table for! Anyone else got any of their own fanworks they might wanna share a table with me for, if I manage to make mine in time?
Will anyone else be going? Cosplay plans at all? I hope I get to run into some of you guys there! Hetalia? Represent! *facepalm*

I'm hoping to cosplay as fem!Spain because I can't sew and it's the easiest one I could think of ^^' And I'm a pirate too~ ;D
I know there are some APH cosplayers who are going to go and some sort of meetup is supposed to be happening but I don't know when/where that's going to happen ^^' Here are the links I have though:

Hope to see you there~ =D

Hurr, I swear I searched the forum for 'Hetalia' and came up with nothing, I must have typo'd it @_@
And yesss! It seems such a waste to have a pirate'y theme for a con, and NOT go as Pirate!Iggy! Ohhhh, I wish I could have discovered Alcon earlier! My sewing machine is buried in the storage room and I suck at sewing too, so there's not a chance I could make something on time, but I really want to try to do a little something for the theme, even if it's just an eyepatch at some point XD I'll keep my eyes peeled for Fem!Spain! Thanks for the info, and see you there!

I'll keep my eyes peeled for you as well~ Though I've got to warn you it's not a particularly good cosplay ^^' High street stores never have what you need when you need it XD And it's my first time at a con or cosplaying at all so it should be interesting XD
Since I only have the one cosplay planned though, I might try and see if I can put something else together as well... probably also fem!spain or maybe fem!Romano? I'm not sure yet ^^' /digs up reference pictures from google/pixiv

Ahhh, it's so true about high street piece-together costumes! Even the most basic things! "Oh, all I need now is a long plain white skirt. I'll get that last, no rush, should be easy to find~" and the day before the con, you're still desperately trying to find a plain white skirt because all the store skirts have embroidery or something>< I don't think I've ever gone to a con wearing a completed, finished costume! I'm always short a bit such as shoes or a belt or the weapon prop or something, or there are bits safety-pinned on because I didn't finish it in time! So don't worry if it's not ideal, it's all about the fun really ^_^

Aww, but srsly, too bad about missing a chunck of it. Still, it's better than missing the lot! And what's a con without France ^_~ See you there!

I could just go casual but I want to hang with the hetalia group xD
Plus I'm still worried over the fact I'll know absolutely no one @.@

Yeah I mostly want to go as I want to meet some hetalia fans. I think it'd be nice to find people in England who like anime for once as I don't know any in real life.
Well I don't have any cosplay outfit, but I'm sure I could order one before then... or go as casual like you said.
I'm still worried about smiling though. I just wish they were whiter ;.; I don't know how to make them white. I'd ask the dentist but I'm scared its going to be painful *wimp*

I'm relieved to say I wasn't tricked into thinking this was anything to do with MCM, I had no idea about any of that. I just stumbled on a link to Alcon whilst looking for localish conventions that fit my timing needs. Hopefully the controversy wont ruin the fun of the meet itself, lifes too short to pass up events when they come your way!
