[Mod] Discussion on... discussions

Hello community members! First off, apologies for not being on top of the recent flood of activity that have seemingly been upsetting everyone. The mods have been busy (I, myself, am doing last minute cosplay stuff for Anime Expo) and we're waiting on two new mods to join our team. Second, instead of having a gif party, please bring any issues to the mods. I have heard secondhand about concerns over the several RP ads and have planned to address that with perhaps a regularly updated post dedicated to people looking for RP partners. Any input on this idea would be fabulous.

In an attempt to prevent a flood of posts, the mods would like to ask everyone to PLEASE try and limit to posting once per day. There is no need to make separate posts for each different chapter of your fic (barring the text limit restriction). You can also edit your post if you would like to add something new, instead of making a completely new post. We would like you guys to have freedom to post, so we won't make a strict one-post-limit-per-person-per-day rule, but if it gets too ridiculous, we will delete extra posts. We also ask that advertisement or reminder posts be spaced at least a week apart.

Now, about those discussion posts. Here are some options:
-First, putting limits on topics allowed. Such as only allowing discussions related to the anime or strips themselves, and no "what would" questions.
-Second, getting rid of the discussions tag completely and taking all discussions to a separate community.
-Third option is having moderated discussion posts once every few days, where a mod will post and discussions will take place under the post.
-Fourth... leave things the way they are and just scroll past whatever you don't want to read.

Since it is you guys, the community members, who are participating and reading these discussion posts, it's only fair to hear your opinions on these suggestions. Due to time/schedule restraints, the mods won't be able to respond to the comments you post here, but we will look them over and discuss it with the team. Thanks for your time.

THANK YOU.
For telling everyone to scroll past.
Ch.. everyone, including me is busy because of AX.... Wtf am I doing here at this time? XD

XD YES. I mean four. This place is so much fun because of pointless discussions.

I'm in favour with the first two options! But it's really up to majority, and the lovely mods <3

Overall, I'm agreeing with the second one the most.

Second one for me, thanks.

I didn't even know it was a problem until some people started complaining

Scrolling was never hard for me

I'm in favor of the first or third option. I do like the occasional discussion topic now and again but it's been ridiculous lately.

[identity profile] fiercepotato.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Personally I think the third option sounds best, because it's not like we hate discussions just the ones that had to do with pizza toppings and other ridiculous things, and I'm going to say that once in a while silly discussions are fine, just it was getting out of hand.

So yeah, I like option three over the first two... and fourth one. lol'd at that one for some reason

I use tags. I scroll. I unwatch. I have a customized flist. It's never been a problem.

FOURTH ONE.

[identity profile] cutthroatpixie.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I like the first and third options best. Some people seem to really like the discussions, and if there were still discussion posts around, but in a less chaotic manner, I think that would be best. People wouldn't have to move to an entirely different community to discuss things, but people who don't like the flooding of what they find to be pointless discussions would also probably be a lot happier.

I have been waiting for this. Thank you so much. I like the first and second options the most.

Perhaps a combination of 1 and 2? Yes to putting a limit on the topics allowed, and moving other discussions to its own comm. A balance of the two, if you will. If that doesn't work out, going to 3 would also be all right.

Thank you for taking the time to look at our complaints and help us sort this out. It's just been getting too ridiculous lately.

[identity profile] barnaby.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much for responding to this whole thing.

I would definitely like seeing 1 or 2 being put into place.

[identity profile] catmenrulz.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
OMG You wonderful mods :)

The First and Second sound good to me

[identity profile] coconabanana.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
First and third options for me.

[identity profile] ex-thelastf.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
One and two (to some extent, I can see why some discussions would be posted here) would be lovely if they were put into effect. Thank you!

[identity profile] gingeynary.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say the first or second, definitely.

[identity profile] adasif.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Third option seems pretty reasonable. But I'm more in favour of the fourth option.

I think if first option was implemented, the problem would be where to draw the line...

[identity profile] bioplague.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Ideally, I think the first option would be the best. No one is having any problems with a decent discussion - be it about the strips/anime or historical stuff. But yeah, lessen the "silly" posts about underpants or hairstyles or whatever.

I don't think things should be kept the "way they are," considering so many people clearly have issues with the amount of posting/posts they view as spam on this community.

[identity profile] fujiappletan.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
This very much.

[identity profile] danybel.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
I actually would like for number 1 or 3 to happen. Since this is the main Hetalia community I think discussions should be allowed, just not exaggerated.

[identity profile] devicing.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Frankly, I have no problems with the actually history related discussions, or the ones that bring about serious thought and actual discussion from the fans. It's the silly, unrelated ones that irk me, as well as the ones that are just begging to start fandom wank, because god knows everyone loves that.

My vote's for number 2 because we already have those kinds of communities and I think that they deserve the attention.

[identity profile] lumos.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not completely sure what's the best option to be honest. I don't mind the occasional discussion post, especially since they pose interesting topics sometimes. When I get aggravated is when there's a flood of discussion about inane things such as what do the nations like to put on pizza.

If it's something pertaining to the strips/anime then I think that's mostly what discussion tag should be used for. I'd even be alright with discussions that deal with how things work in the Hetalia universe itself. Not "what do the nations like to do after world meetings" sort of thing, I mean more "to what extent can a nation think for itself/how much does the people's opinion shape them"?

Discussion that actually requires some thought to it. Something that could be interesting to think about in terms of the characters. Whether they like Coke or Pepsi doesn't tell me anything about the characters or make me think about their personality/characterization. It's just something that's better suited for a personal journal or discussing with friends.

I'm good with limits on discussion posts. So like the first option says, perhaps with the addition that serious discussions about mechanics/characterizations of the Hetalia universe and the nations are also allowed. Not sure how easy it would be to moderate in that manner though. But yeah, my perspective on it. I think tighter rules should be put in place and if the comm can't follow them and think before posting, we shouldn't have the discussion tag at all. True, we can scroll through, but it's getting ridiculous lately.

I'm going with Four. I like how free this place is. Honestly, the RP ads don't bug me either. And I love the selling posts. To be quite frank, I LIKE not having to join ten million separate communities that end up being cross posted half the time anyway.

And I say this when around 75%+ of the content here is not anything I'd find click worthy. (I like obscure pairings and characters.) I have no problem scrolling past it. It does not bother me in the slightest.

Honestly, my only request would be to have mods get a bit more on top of discussions and delete the wanky ones sooner. Which it seems like you're looking into getting more help in order to enable you to do so, and that's great! I've been watching this comm for a while now and the discussions have been surprisingly civil compared to other fandoms I've been in. I really didn't find discussions much of a problem at all.

I vote for 1. I'm all for discussions now and then, but when it gets to be really unrelated things all in one giant flood clogging the comm it gets rather irritating. I usually scroll past, but recently there's been a lot more. :T
Maybe a limit on how many discussions may be posted on the comm in one day?

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be cool with one or four (I lean to four).

One: is what the purist in me believes (even though the odd "what would" is fun every now and then. Interesting to see what other headcanons people have, and who thinks the way I do or don't).

Four: Sometimes it's a pain in the butt to scroll, especially when there's NOTHING that interests you on a page, but seriously? It ain't that hard. And, as many people have mentioned, [livejournal.com profile] hetalia_daily is wonderful.

[identity profile] hazel-belle.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
I like #2 and #3... since pimping the Hetalia Discussions community of its own would be interesting and this way it won't be like spam of discussions but instead we still have discussions, but just that one of the mods post them instead [and maybe at the end we have a little poll of what to discuss next or let it be up to the choice of the mod]
