Cosplay Help: Pattern Suggestions

So, for my next cosplay, I intend to cosplay as England.  And my sister was recruited as France, and we were wondering what would be good patterns for their military jackets.  I'm extremely grateful for your input!

(yes, my sister is going to be Francis...why do I get the feeling she won't have a problem with "groping" me in public?)

oops. I keep on commenting. >3<
I think it's called a Sam Browne belt.
Try eBay. I know they had a few on there the other day....hope that helps :D

Random LJ-er saying that yes, they are called Sam Browne cross straps ^^

And you can usually find a fair amount of actual British Officer sam brownes on ebay for a good price, I bought mine for about 26 pounds. :) but you may have to put in extra holes, some of them are decently large on the strap that goes under your epaulettes, haha.

I'd also recommend going to swap-meets or antique shops as well, there are lots of tunics that you can swap buttons on and modify! :) And that way you can get that thicker wool feel, like an actual uniform. Wow, I keep prattling on, I'm really sorry, but I'd also recommend actual military/service ties, they have a nicer feel to them and most of them are made out of wool, shiny ones clash a bit with uniforms. ^^ Hope that helps a bit.
