[Fancomic] America + Food = FAIL

Title: The 5-Second Rule, Chinese Take-Out, Salmonella Outbreak
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] pompi
Characters: America, Canada, China
Rating: G
Warnings: None... unless doodle quality art and bad handwriting burns the eyes. D'8
Summary: Random gag comic. America is an idiot when it comes to food... and soon suffers the consequences. The last two 4-koma are based off the recent peanut recall in the U.S.

Some news references from Google, Yahoo!, and New York Times.

Speech bubbles are read left to right, but the panels are still read going down, like a 4-koma. ^^;; I'm sorry if my handwriting is difficult to read. If you want me to decipher, let me know. D8

Edit: I fixed it to 5-second rule. But it was originally the 3-second rule. I guess there are variations? Original image.

I'm not sure if other countries have the 5-second rule (which is when you drop food, it's still okay to eat if you pick it up before five seconds pass). America pays more attention to the burger on the floor than to the apologizing Canada. Poor Canada.

Real Chinese food and American-Chinese food are completely different (in my opinion). I have observed that most Americans prefer the American-Chinese food (mostly oily stir-fried food, such as sweet and sour pork, beef and broccoli, orange chicken, etc.). When they eat real Chinese food (if they ever), they're generally disappointed in the neutral/milder/healthier(?) taste. XD

There's a peanut recall in the U.S. due to a salmonella outbreak. A peanut plant in Georgia is said to be responsible. The plant sent peanuts to Canada, but upon inspection, Canada said that the peanuts were not suitable for consumption and sent them back to be destroyed. Yet here we are... eating contaminated peanuts.

asdfghjk; The art quality clearly gets worse as we go down. Apologizes. I needed to get these out before I forgot. I'm not used to doing things based off current events. D8

IT'S THE 5-SECOND RULE. ♥

...oh man I hate American-Chinese food. I've never had real Chinese food, honestly, but IT MUST BE BETTER because it's impossible to be worse.

[identity profile] qichi.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
OH YEAH THE COMICS. Th-these are really funny, and it's nice to see some not-entirely-serious-news stuff depicted in Hetalia o/ I'm glad I don't eat peanuts~

So is real everything Mexican food. I live in an area that has SO much Tex Mex, and while I enjoy it, it's really nothing like real Mexican food. Personally. I've decided all countries personalize their ethnic foods. Example: Japanified Italian food.

THANK YOU POSTER FOR PROVIDING HILARITY. because it's worth the capslock

[identity profile] kasugai-gummie.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Chinese food--really depends on the area though. Each has a particular taste/flavor/food-type preference. Some might be more bland, spicy, soupy, etc etc. :3 But I do agree; Americans like their oil.

Also, mmm, MSG. Really isn't that bad if eaten in moderation. =3

Awesome strips! Especially Canada's RAAAGE! XD

[identity profile] minath.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Is it mean that I cracked up at America sprawled out on that last panel? ==" It's just.. the little doodle... so funny. XD Just like Canada's face in the second and third one of the last strip. :P

[identity profile] fusakugyoku.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's a 5-second rule...

But of course, real Chinese food doesn't necessarily cut back on unnatural additives ^^;

Naisu comics!

[identity profile] faye-naruse.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
Bwahaha, that's awesome<3 XD Poor Canada!

[identity profile] eosyn.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
But eating food off the ground really does make you stronger because, as a child, your body builds resistance to mildly harmful bacteria and such!

Anyway, I completely love these. The expressions you've drawn are absolutely priceless and simply adorable!

[identity profile] chiharu-octavia.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, eating off the ground might look bad to others, but I agree -- it must be fully endorsed. XDDD

Oh, our eating habits are soooo baaaaad... u.u

[identity profile] nyoma.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
3-second rule, 5-second rule, as long as it hasn't been there for more than a minute, its fine. ;D
America is so awesome like that.

Your 4-komas are just as awesome. *__*

[identity profile] windy-lea.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Unless it's something sticky. I'm not going to dive after my gum, a sucker, bread that had jam on it, for instance :3

Eating food off the ground makes your stomach stronger. Also, it's bad to waste food. (Although if American-Chinese food fell on the ground, I would not consider that a waste. *iceburn*)

Man, oh man, I love these comics, very cute and funny! But I love anything that has to do with food, I'm a starving student and dream about food.

[identity profile] introject.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, poor Yao and Matt. ALFRED WHY DO YOU EAT EVERYTHING.

These strips are so hilarious and adorable. ♥

[identity profile] milavalentine.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
AHAHA xD yes, we have that rule...but it must fall on a rather clean surface D;'....not anywhere... Orz.

And wtf at America eating contaminated peanuts ' this is madness!

[identity profile] kotonon.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
OH MAN. THAT PEANUT INCIDENT.

GOOSSHHH I had to learn about it WHILE I was eating peanut butter off a spoon U____U Augh wth.

And OH GOD UGH AMERICAN CHINESE FOOD. Poor poor Alfred. After eating Arthur's food for so long he doesn't even know what taste means poor thing.

[identity profile] hime-chan17.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
where would we be in this world without the five second rule? ^o^ lol
as a true american I use that rule frequently XD

[identity profile] katlovescookies.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
...a professor of mine once told me that eating food that dropped to the ground is actually... beneficial. i.e., *drops food to the ground* oops - hey antibody production! OM NOM NOM NOM~

and yeah, chinese food are salty, but that's what rice is for right? *is bricked* (at least it's what i do XD)

these strips are funny XD keep em coming! ♡

[identity profile] fujiappletan.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
I am loling b/c there is an America/England doujinshi called The 3-second Rule, Japan knows it as that according to fanworks haha.

So glad I hate peanuts. D:

Ilu Canada, his "(and annoying)" was completely him! xD

America's pursed lip expression is very funny. My mother would call them "fish lips".

[identity profile] silvardepoch.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly I've been eating the wrong Chinese food. We need that rice to get rid of some of the saltiness (and to fill us up). Maybe it's a Cantonese thing?

[identity profile] cosplay-thief.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
I saw someone execute the 5 seconds rule for a gum (unchewed thank god) on the subway floor (ew) so I can say it exists in Canada.
Chinese-Chinese food is good but it's so hard to find amist all those fake chinese food. XD

Your art is very nice. (not counting the last strip...)

[identity profile] mayurasan.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Very funny XD Hope to see more.

[identity profile] irishdescence.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh LOL I heard about that news too XD

[identity profile] onmyoji-youkai.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
I've never tried Real Chinese food but i always keep imagining lizards and starfish on a stick, too watery soup that drowns the noodles and Dog meat(I was told that they eat dog!). I like American-Chinese better.

I still do the 5 seconds rule unless the ground is dirty then i'm not going to eat it. Poor Canada though. *Hugs my Canadian neighbor*

[identity profile] dragon-tearz.livejournal.com 2009-02-01 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'd highly recommend real Chinese food to you then. xD (We... we don't eat lizards or starfishes... xD;; Most of China isn't bordered by the ocean...) Noodles and soup vary depending on what kind you order (my favourite kind of noodles with huang jiang doesn't have any soup at all) and certainly nobody eats dog meat in North America.

[identity profile] surealistic-des.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
its the 5 second rule :333 ♥ Although when your in the city, its no second rule haha..

but love Canada's expression and oh America..America...

oh MSG..I think most of the Viet food down here contains it :D;;;

[identity profile] mah-marina.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The 5-second rule exists here in Brazil too! My brother often does that >.>'

they're all very funny! And your art is really good. Thanks for sharing :D

[identity profile] x-haphazard-x.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"IT'S SO BAD BUT I CAN'T STOP EATING IT!"

Isn't that the story of like, all American food? LOL.

[identity profile] theweewoo.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL.

[identity profile] fabledquill.livejournal.com 2009-01-31 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
loolololol
This is so true - as an American, I can attest to pretty much all of this.
And, uh, unfortunately, I have fallen prey to the DELICIOUS FRIED HERESY of Sino-American food. -____-;; *shame*
I can't help it, it's so good...
(Real Chinese food is delicious too, though)

and lmao 5-second rule.
