Anything where the generous anon is tipped easily, because he is generous but (so I've heard) he's kind of terrible at guessing, unless things are painfully obvious...

Is there anything the requesting anon is particularly inclined to? For example, more adventurous, specific requests regarding Arthur and little Hong Kong? Or something else?

How about 'uncivilized boys' getting spanked by their British lords, simply because they'll never be good enough pictures of Spiderman? But anything goes, really! Any request would be awesome, because the writing anon rather enjoys the way the requesting anon thinks. Though said anon would very much like to see the aforementioned scenario drawn. Perhaps if that anon writes enough, he can inspire?

Methinks if there's a continuing part of that fic just now, a certain passingby!anon who draws might just be tempted to draw something. Just intuition. Because after all, while requesting!anon is greedy (and so is passingby!anon), there needs to be balance.

I feel bad for HK, too, which where I start wondering if Arthur might be a bit differently tsundere with HK as time goes on. Like if HK got sick and passed out, he might freak out but only cuz HK is out cold and not technically within earshot.

Perhaps it could be a private showing? With a little more detail...? After all, it's just not easy to write all the smutty details on shortfic mode -- you have to keep the important bits in, and leave the rest out.

Would Arthur bother to lube up his little pet dragon? Or is he THAT bad? I don't know.

There's also the fact I have to wonder how "durable" nation-tans are. I have this theory that they are like little gods of sorts (think principalities: literal embodiment of nations), but I need to make a longer, better exposit of it. If that is the case, HK-tan might be able to fare better than average to some serious abuse of the nonlubby variety. Funny how I-- ANON has less trouble writing about persistent, psychological pummeling and mind-rape than over that. On the other hand, such practical details often derail from the flow of fiction, so...

Oh, of course I think Arthur will change a bit. HK-kun also gets tough! He's a little dragon who can resist the RED MENACE that infected his 'older twin.' If he can stand the commies he can tell Arthur to GTFO and leave him alone to tend to his birds in peace. But that's just a theory.

*nod nod* In my mind, they're a bit like Stands (think Jojo's Bizarre Adventures) of the nations themselves. I believe me and equivalent_t had a discussion about this, and there was discussion of not only the physical endurance but also how much the population affected the nation-tan. HK might actually be extremely durable, just for that.

Probably, as HK gets older physically, he'd get more and more quiet and secluded in a "cold shoulder" way. If UK were any more cruel, at that point he probably would have killed all of HK's birds. Or something. Too much mousou.

Yep. I do think they are something like that: ripples and reflections of a country and a culture - the people and the land rather than (exclusively) the government, though the latter plays an important part defining the "personality" of a country (imperialism as the M.O of England being reflected on Arthur.) It's tricky, of course, and I think there's no absolute rules for it, so I for one play with guidelines rather than rules.

I think the trickier cases are that of countries which split up, merge, are born or "die." I submitted once on 4chan that the nation-tans would remain, in some form, as long as the culture sticks. Rome is a dead culture altogether, so he's a ghost now. Someone said Prussia may persist as East Germany.

I do wonder if Hong Kong existed as long as China did, or if it came to be when it was formally separated from the former. For me, I think one can assume he's like a small brother to China (let's not really trouble ourselves TOO terribly, as, if we went into detail, China would not even be a country to begin with, but a hivemind of lands up until it was unified) and then Arthur came thundering in.

I think it's a matter of playing it by guidelines rather than rules, like I said. But that's just me.

MEANWHILE I think that Hong Kong will go through phases. First, he'll suffer (the poor thing), slowly moving onto being jaded and acceptance, and from that will be born a sort of callousness... indifference. Hong Kong would notice that the one thing Arthur can't do is make him *feel*. After all that time and experience, he can control himself enough (INDEPENDANT ECONOMIC ZONE HOHOHO) and, along with the self-esteem boost that came from standing against the communist government, the population growth and the financial boost, he'd find himself noticing he doesn't have to put up with Arthur's abuse anymore. I figure by the 1950s-1970s (while Arthur was otherwise preoccupied with the cold war), he was finally giving Arthur the cold shoulder. And poor Arthur would realize that HK has escaped him too, but that at least Alfred doesn't have hard feelings against him. HK on the other hand...

And yes, Arthur probably killed his birds. Dark pairing is dark.

Definitely agree with you on that. The culture and the history of the nation, as well as the population as a whole, affects the nation-tan in a way of their process of thought as well as what they believe in (because history is a really subjective matter, and the nation-tans are probably victims of their own population's beliefs of what is the "correct history," despite being the ones who experienced it firsthand). As for the personality of the country being in tune with the government, that opens up a can of worms, because it's totally awesome to think that it affects the nation--but the government is usually such a SMALL portion of the nation itself that one wonders about just how much titter-tottering between "the people's views" and "the head's view." ...and sorry, I ramble.

Oh dear, I know what you mean there. Because technically, Hong Kong will lose a good chunk of autonomy come 2047, so what will happen to him? And what will happen to Taiwan should she forced to go back to Nii Nii's house? A lot of people say actually that East Germany's population still are very proud of their Prussian roots, so I can see that Prussia is in a way still alive.

Hmm, one way to look at it is probably on a prefectural level? Because before China became unified, it was a lot of little tiny nations, and HK can probably arguably be one of them--and then with the Qin (not to be confused with Qing) Dynasty, Nii Nii became the actual physically strongest nation-tan that reigned over all the other prefectures, while a few continued to survive in the shadows--not really growing while Nii Nii thrived? Which can explain why when Arthur came in, HK was still a little boy.

OH LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT THE TRIAD. HONG KONG'S WAY TO DEFY MORE. And the Kowloon Walled City. Hong Kong would definitely be able to hold his head high again well after the economic boom that he got, and then when Arthur finally turns his head back to look at HK after the Cold War issue, he'll have this terrible deja-vu of how Alfred towered over him after just a few short months (though HK does not tower over him, it's still a considerable growth spurt).

Also, 100% agreed on the latter comment. YES. That's exactly how Arthur would react, I think. Oh, he'd try to tell himself he's concerned, but really he's just panicking because he's a controlling freak with HK, and the fact he's not reacting/things aren't under control is upsetting.

I wonder if he'd be angry after HK wakes up? Or at least, if he'd feel a strange mixture of anger and relief?

It would be an extreme case of "Damn it DO SOMETHING. REACT. WHY ARE YOU UNCONSCIOUS AND SUCCUMBING TO SOMETHING OTHER THAN ME!!" whilst shaking him, much to the horror of the house-servants. And of course HK sleeps like the dead.

P.S, apparently that writing anon went overboard and didn't just write part 3, but parts 3 through 7.

And I think Arthur DOES have a feeling other than domination for HK. He's just very confused, and too terrified of losing HK to express it properly, so the only form of output he has is dominance. After all, Arthur is convinced that he's doing the best for Hong Kong, so he's not harming him just out of random spite. Oh, it's so messed up.

Arthur is probably suffering from some form of stress disorder due to America leaving him in such a violent manner that he doesn't want to repeat the same thing with HK, then. He wants to be able to give what is best for him, but also keep him under a tighter hold than what he gave America. But the thing he doesn't really realize is that he's NOT raising a child from scratch like the way he did with America and/or Canada. He's rearing an old, proud creature stuck in a child's body. Or maybe he realizes this. Oh, messed up galore.

I think this has gone beyond YaoiLand's comprehension, at this point.

If he realizes Hong Kong is an ancient marvel in a tiny package, I think he'd force himself into denial about it. Maybe he does. He needs to assert his superiority, and so he probably spites the whole thing: ancient? Who cares? Old, wise? Who cares? He's not western, English, and therefor he's certainly not worthy of any respect for that.

I figure he probably doesn't let Hong Kong speak in Chinese around him. He'd betchslap him right on the face, for dual reasons: using that uncivilized speech, and speaking in tongues that he doesn't understand. Arthur would be paranoid that Hong Kong's mumbling behind his back, so he'd make sure to leave him no space for secrets.

Besides, Hong Kong really is TINY, and just the size difference makes UK feel superior, by default. If not that, then the fact that he defeated and pretty much mopped the floor with China would make his ego inflate even more. And really, just the culture clash would make UK think the whole old and ancient thing as out-dated, and the wise part as barbaric teachings. Why, HK isn't even Christian!

Oh god, that reminds me of my high school teacher, and I think that really was the fear, that I was talking smack about him behind his back in Mandarin. Just not knowing someone else's language could really give someone a feeling of inferiority.
