Questions About One Coin Figures

Questions answered! Thanks, everyone! :D

Hi, guys! I have a few questions about the collectible Hetalia One Coin figures and would greatly appreciate it if someone could fill me in. (Sorry if this isn't the right place for a post like this!) My sister expressed an interest in getting me the whole nine-figure boxed collection for the holidays, but both of us are newbies when it comes to collectible figures, and it seems like none of the sellers we've been looking at have adequate information.

+ First, a lot of them say that the figurines are "shipped randomly". What does that mean, exactly? That if you order a single figurine, it's random? That the figurines you get in the set are random? (If that's the case, is it possible to have a box with, for example, two Englands or three Italies?)

+ Second, around how much do these sell for? I see some sellers on eBay who are offering what I believe to be an entire set for around $15, while others are trying to charge $100 and up. How much is too much to pay for these?

+ Third, she was looking
at this offering on eBay. Is this what we want? Ahhh! XD

Sorry for sounding like a newb, guys. I didn't know where else I could go to get the facts from, and I'd hate it if my sis ended getting priced gouged or buying the wrong thing. ;___;

I'm not really an expert on the coin figures, but I can offer a bit of help with the second and third question.

(since they relate)

The link you see there has bootleg coin figures. Which aren't that terrible, but clearly not as good as the real thing. They are less refined, not as detailed paint job/details may be left out, different coin base and ways to hold them up. (Aka, not the expensive magnet etc.)
That is, since it looks familiar to a bootleg set a friend of mine had, she had the real ones too so we could compare them.

Overall, the bootleg aren't terrible and still really quite cute (I bought some from the friend).

However, it's up to you whether you want to get the real thing or not. The real thing is likely to cost you 100 and up. They are a lot nicer and cuter however <3.

As to the shipping randomly, I'm afraid I can't help there. I know my friend received a set of one of each for the bootleg and also a full set on the other with a double germany, but I can't help you any further there.

I'm not too sure what 'shipped randomly' means, but those that you have linked there are bootlegs (I'll be getting the same set for Christmas :) ) The biggest differences between these and the real ones are the price, of course, but some of the colouring is off (it seems like mostly the hair...) and Romano's head is on Germany's body and vice versa. The $100-ish ones are the real things.

I, personally, think the bootlegs are worth it. Though that just might be because I'm too cheap to spend a paycheck on those things =/

Hope that helps!

Yes, the heads are removable. [: I bought the bootlegs, they're pretty cute. It's fun to pop their heads off and stick them on other bodies. xD

Well, with mine, China's hair was a bright orange-ish color, and Germany's is kind of purplish in the front, and his eyes are the wrong color. My France has a weird little red smudge on his face that makes it look like he has a mustache. or a nosebleed. But I think that's just mine, not all of them. xD They're not as nice as the real ones, but they're still really cute.

Hope this helped! [:

A while ago [livejournal.com profile] pockygirl posted this, which is pretty helpful in seeing the differences: http://community.livejournal.com/hetalia/3607984.html#cutid1

like they already said, the link IS a set of fake ones. my friend has a set of the fake ones, and they're really not that bad! the painting obviously isn't perfect on them, but it's really not all that bad.

Figurefag to the rescue!

"Shipped randomly" is referring to the fact that the One Coins are trading figures. When purchased individually, they send you a random blind box of one of the figures, and it could be any of them.

Pricewise, I'd say spending about $80, give or take, is acceptable for the set. For singles, around $17. Beware of bootlegs.

Here's a link to a definitely legit sale for the complete set's December rerelease (which just means it's another print run of the exact same figures)

Ignore my rant below ^^

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, a set will have all 9 characters.

Re: Ignore my rant below ^^

[identity profile] kasumicc.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. From what I know, "shipped randomly" refers to the fact that while you receive 9 figures on a box, they're selected randomly; you can end with a full set, or having some doubles. It's a matter of luck.

That is, with the original ones. I don't know how the figures are sorted on the bootleg boxes. Anyways, I'm by all means getting the original one, so I hope to get the whole set =D

As someone who bought the originals, the 9 figure box set IS the full set. I'm not sure what's up with the double Germany that was mentioned above, but everyone I know who's gotten the original box has received all 9 charas. :3

Were they even sold individually aside from people splitting up the sets? I don't even know...

Re: Ignore my rant below ^^

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's as I explained above. A full box has one of each character. That's not normally the case with trading figures, but with these it is. Or at least I'd assume so since I've purchased 2 sets and got all of them both times.

Sorry; I can't edit my post since I don't have a paid account

But I feel I should add that you really should avoid buying the bootlegged merchandise if you can help it. None of the money goes to Himaruya or the creators of the anime, but instead goes to the Chinese crime syndicates. I mean, if you really don't care about the creators and just want your toys, go for it, but something about willingly and knowingly buying bootlegs bugs me. These people aren't fans of the series; they're just looking to make a quick buck, and it really IS hurtful financially to the companies creating Hetalia for you to choose the bootleg product over the official.

As for the price? Yeah, it's expensive. That's how collectible merchandise is.

Re: Sorry; I can't edit my post since I don't have a paid account

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Well that's a shame. I just deeply hate bootlegs. You could possibly find singles somewhere and not get the full set? idk, but really, I just feel that, if you're not willing to pay the cost for the official release, then why buy them at all? If they're just "little plastic figurines" to you at the end of the day, then the bootleg price should be too high, too, for what they are.

But in the long run it's your decision. Sorry if I came off bitchy. It's kind of a rough transition between normal discussion and arguments with anons on RP!S, so I probably sound more cranky and mean than I am ^^.

Re: Sorry; I can't edit my post since I don't have a paid account

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that's fair ^^. But yeah, just look for some of the singles. I wouldn't pay more than $17 or so for a single, but people out there do sell them for reasonable prices. I especially recommend checking this community's sales tag; people do put them up for sale here every so often.

[identity profile] ackisnotback.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to say that too, but I forgot. ]: I didn't realize mine were bootlegged when I bought them. (although the super low price should have made it obvious. OTL)

I really feel bad for buying fakes. Not really so much because I'm not happy with them, although they could be better, but I feel like a jerk for not supporting Himaruya by buying the originals. I mean, Hetalia makes my day so much brighter, and always cheers me up, and I feel like a creep for not supporting the guy who's brought me so much happiness by creating it by buying fakes. Does that make sense? OTL

So, yeah, they are cheaper. But they're not as well done, and the don't support Himaruya. ]:

Yeah, this is how I'd feel if I bought an accidental bootleg for something Hetalia. Hi-5 for likemindedness! =3

You can always still pick up the official ones, too, btw, since there is that December rerelease I linked to, and plenty other figure sites should have them as well. The official ones are gorgeous and I highly recommend them.

I know what you mean. I purchased some bootleg anime CDs before I knew how to tell they were bootlegs and it's like... it makes me sad on the inside. D:

I kind of feel that way too. I'm considering to get a real Russia figure and I wish there was some guide to what Hetalia merchandise was official.

OTZ I wish I knew this information about a week ago!

I just wanted a cute Ivan~ So, I ordered the cheapest version I could find on eBay. OTZ;; I should have know....
... now in comparing the two images, it's so obvious. ;;OTZ

Ack! Now I need to get rid of the bootlegs...
*has no idea how to do returns on eBay*

I think everyone answered your question but I just wanted to let you know how much the real ones are right now
if you buy it from the official site (Kotobukiya) you will be able to get a full set (all nine figures) but the price will be about $65 (including shipping in Japan)
sadly, they don't ship item outside of Japan so you have to have someone in Japan to get the item and ship it to you
currently, most of the Japanese online stores are taking pre-orders for December resale but they are all sold out now because they give some discounts (except for the official site)

I pre-ordered mine from a online store called sproutoy before it got sold out because they mentioned on their site that buying a box from them will complete the collection and their price is $50 with shipping in Japan included (additional $10 to ship it to US which this is what my grandmother did for me since the store doesn't ship outside of Japan)
here's the link to the store:
http://item.rakuten.co.jp/sproutoy/sp4934054892389/
this is the cheapest online store that I can find online (plus I'm not sure if you can get a full set from other stores even though you buy a box because some of the online stores doesn't mention it at all)

and yeah, it's expensive but it's worth getting it because it's really well made
Japanese figures are always awesome even though it's expensive
I'm kind of surprised to know that there's a bootleg version of this Hetalia figures (lol)

[identity profile] tenipurikarupin.livejournal.com 2009-12-01 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
oops, I said that wrong it's about $80 including shipping in Japan if you buy it from official website (Kotobukiya)
and I forgot to post the link to Kotobukuya online shop so here you go:
http://www.kotobukiya.co.jp/cgi-bin/db_sm_main_css.cgi?B=6936&N=detail01&C=1364
I'm sorry about the mistake >_< totally forgot that it's 86 yen per $1 right now (that really sucks...)

I know this has already been answered, but i thought I'd just say that I deliberately bought the bootlegs then complained like hell to the seller that he sold me crappy merchandise, and he refunded all my money, and i kept the figurines, so if you play it right you can get them for free!
