Code Geass. Love the canon, but fandom's just crazy.

The eyebrow curse is so another reason for China to curse UK well into eternity. XDD I can't wait, either. We haven't seen much of China or UK's colonial thing lately, and US-Canada doesn't really count. And Belarus...well, I wasn't around when Seychelles came into the picture, either, but I can imagine. Belarus was just this quiet, yandere-looking maid. But Seychelles was hilarious. More to work with for fans.

Right. I want Belgiuuuuum. ;_; And Austria-Hungary, and Cuba, and, and, and...

Seriously. A lot of people who ship USA/UK don't seem to really touch upon the fact that THE OPIUM WARS HAPPENED AND UK WAS A REAL JERK ABOUT IT. And Hong Kong is pretty much the child of ~~a date rape~~ the war. UK is shown to be really nice and sweet to USA and Canada. Makes me wonder how he treated Hong Kong (considering the way HK looks...) Seychelles is more cute and there's more about her personality that was shown than Belarus. All we see of her is her picture and that small appearance of her threatening Latvia with a knife in The Book.

I want Belgium, I want more Austria/Hungary, I want more Prussia, I-I...

I know. I ship USA/UK and sometimes I wonder if they remember that UK is really, really, really a jerk. Somehow they manage to remember the Spanish Armada thing and it doesn't occur that he's, well, not that nice. And prone to laughing like a grade B villain. Opium wars would be a very interesting arc to read...I'm particularly interested about China's reaction, too. That was the end of 4,000 years of tradition/'old culture' pride, wasn't it?

I just hope that Prussia isn't dead now that he's rejoined Germany. He did appeared in the Christmas event, after all.

UK has years upon years over USA in jerkdom, seriously. Man, that panel with UK cackling over Spain's drooling body with Shakespeare standing behind him makes me laugh, but it's just that in history, he pillaged and plundered. Even the artist says he was a 元ヤン, which should go to show what kind of guy he was.

There are doujins about the Opium Wars, but nothing official as of yet, but yeah, it was the end of 4000 years of old culture, tradition, and the hikkikomori status of China as the "Center Nation."

Yeah, he did show up in the Christmas event...but I think he might have "married" Germany? Or at least is dwelling with him, like Austria did at one point.

Yeah. The 20th century was the American Century, but the British Empire'd been doing its thing for, what, 500 years? Arthur's my favourite character, but a large part of him was that unlike WWII's Axis countries, he was depicted as actively enjoying it. You do not need to whitewash someone into cuteness/ukeness to pair him off with a top, dammit.

Then again, some parts of the BL scene in fen seems to be somewhat adamant about its characterizations. I digress.

I'm still having headaches over how 'marriage' works. On one hand, in a lot of cases, you can just drop in and live together, or work at the more powerful partner's house. On the other hand, France-UK. Maybe it only works as a 'marriage' when both sides are relatively equal, but that theory does have its problems.

By which I mean---I'm perfectly OK with UK being cute, but handling that pairing in the typical BL way---or the 'otome characterization'---tends to make me headdesk. Uh-uh. If USA behaves like he does in half the fics, UK would probably switch his coffee with shoeshine powder. You don't need SAMs to be a jerk, after all.

*nods* I understand completely. He's mellowed down and is trying to hide his pirate-y, opium-dealing past (like a parent trying to not let his kid know that he used to be a biker gang?!), but seriously...FIVE HUNDRED YEARS of it dies hard. There are even some UK/Japan<--USA fics/doujins out there where I imagine that if USA did that sort of thing to Japan in front of UK, there's not gonna be happiness in the house. O_o;

The terminology seems to be a bit blurry (though, we're really not supposed to take it seriously...*laughs*) I think most of them just drop in and live together cuz there's an unequal balance of power, and the more powerful you are, the less chores you'd do? I'm thinking of Hungary's role in Austria's house during the Chibitaria arc...

On that point, you do have to wonder why USA is so popular as the predator character. Yeah, he's no saint, and there's probably a fair number of ugly things bubbling under that chirpy exterior---but why is he the sex fiend anyway? Is it the kichiku megane? Really the megane!?

Okay, probably the same reason UK is a hand-wringing, weeping housewife. I once again digress.

I blame my science teacher! He drilled us to 'always try to figure out how things work'! Though, he'd probably never intended it to be used for country slash...

I guess yeah, it's the megane, and the fact that people just think that the Americans are the people who start having sex when they're in fifth grade? Or maybe it's just that he's a super power and therefore domineering?

Still can't see UK as the housewife, though. If anything, that is Lithuania's role, and even he can kick Knights of the Teutonic Order's ass. Something that a chunk of the fandom needs to see is that if these are surviving nations from centuries of wars and stuff--there's no way any of them are going to be shrinking violets, exactly.

*laughs* I doubt my history professors ever wanted me to be interested in history for THIS reason, either.
