[profiles] The Mediterranean!

I just realized how much I am learning to spell geographical locations by being in this fandom.

Either way, here is the Mediterranean group!  (sans Turkey, cuz he doesn't have a profile yet on the main site)

GREECE

Nation's name: Hellenic Republic
Capital: Athens
Languages: Greek
Birthday: October 28th
National flower: Olive

Human name: Heracles Karpusi (thanks to [profile] equivalent_t)
Height: Unknown
Age: 27 (appearance)

 代ギリシャ文明発祥の地。
The source of the ancient Greek civilization.

温暖なエーゲ海気候にはぐくまれた美しい風景とオリーブ料理が自慢。
Is proud of his olive dishes as well the beautiful scenery brought up by the warmth of the Aegean Sea.

隣国のトルコとは何回もケンカし支配され、わざと停戦条約をつい最近まで結ばなかったほど仲が悪い。
Was taken over several times by his neighbour, Turkey, during fights.  Their relationship is so bad that they've only recently decided on a cease-fire.

 性格は真面目だけどあんまり気合入れない体質のせいかマイペースというかのん気というか常にだるそうに見える。
Has a serious personality, but because he doesn't have a strong constitution, it's more common to see him being really casual and taking things in stride.

哲学を愛し、歴史を重んじる。
Loves philosophy and respects history.

またギリシャ神話の人間くさい神様たちも大好きだ。
Also loves the Greek gods who are so very human-like.

(By the way, the artist recently answered a question as to what the cross Greece carries is.  It's Mount Athos.)

EGYPT

Nation's name: The Arab Republic of Egypt
Capital: Cairo
Languages: Arabic
Birthday: About 3000 years B.C.
National flower: Water lily

Human name:  Not listed  Gupta Muhammad Hassan
Height: Unknown
Age: Not listed

 代より高度で華やかなエジプト文明を発展させてきたナイル川のデルタに支えられた国。
A nation that has developed an elegant and high-class civilization since the ancient times, supported by the Nile Delta.

一時はローマやオスマン帝国の属国になったりしながらもその文化を守り続けてきた。文化や歴史にはものすごい誇りを持っている。
Was once occupied by the Roman as well as the Ottoman Empire, but still continued to maintain his own culture.  Is extremely proud of not only his culture but also his history.

 性格は信仰深く人懐こいが、何を考えているのか分かりにくいところもあり謎が多いようにとられがち。
His personality is friendly and faithful, but because it's hard to figure out what he's thinking, there is an air of mystery about him.

thanks for translating these! greece is my favorite, design-wise. plus, he and japan are really cute together :)

one thing i wonder about is, why does he have so many cats? ^^;

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, I have no idea if that was even close. *shifty eyes*

Anyway, does it speak much about the gutter in my mind that I always think 'SpartaSpartaSparta, oh, and run-of-the-mill paiderastia' when reading Greece's parts?

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well.......THAT IS WHY, ACTUALLY. Because Heracles is really...just Hercules in Greek. (Hercules is Latin.) You know, the imagery of that name! That name! It inspires the gutter!

Seeing the Turkey part of 2007's Chistmas event, I tend to agree with JFen....*cough*

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It could be worse. They could abbreviate him to Hera, and that's just...so wrong on so many levels! Not as....embarrassing, though, I'll admit. XD

I know the feeling. Could've been a fandom fetish thing, I guess...I don't remember seeing anything about it either. :/ Of course, I sometimes skip the author's notes, so.....

[identity profile] morphaileffect.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry to interrupt, but - hong kong has appeared??

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess the Jfen is closer-knit with their "mosou" than we are?

Probably. I was in this fandom once where a character was tied up and about to be executed by a racial supremacist group, and somehow fen turned it into bondage moe. XD;;

Hong Kong deserves it. *shifty* Didn't Belarus also create an explosion? Maybe fen's a bit starved for new countries at this point.

[identity profile] morphaileffect.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
hahahah oh wow he IS cute! made even cuter by cursed eyebrows XD XD

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Code Geass. Love the canon, but fandom's just crazy.

The eyebrow curse is so another reason for China to curse UK well into eternity. XDD I can't wait, either. We haven't seen much of China or UK's colonial thing lately, and US-Canada doesn't really count. And Belarus...well, I wasn't around when Seychelles came into the picture, either, but I can imagine. Belarus was just this quiet, yandere-looking maid. But Seychelles was hilarious. More to work with for fans.

Right. I want Belgiuuuuum. ;_; And Austria-Hungary, and Cuba, and, and, and...

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. I ship USA/UK and sometimes I wonder if they remember that UK is really, really, really a jerk. Somehow they manage to remember the Spanish Armada thing and it doesn't occur that he's, well, not that nice. And prone to laughing like a grade B villain. Opium wars would be a very interesting arc to read...I'm particularly interested about China's reaction, too. That was the end of 4,000 years of tradition/'old culture' pride, wasn't it?

I just hope that Prussia isn't dead now that he's rejoined Germany. He did appeared in the Christmas event, after all.

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The 20th century was the American Century, but the British Empire'd been doing its thing for, what, 500 years? Arthur's my favourite character, but a large part of him was that unlike WWII's Axis countries, he was depicted as actively enjoying it. You do not need to whitewash someone into cuteness/ukeness to pair him off with a top, dammit.

Then again, some parts of the BL scene in fen seems to be somewhat adamant about its characterizations. I digress.

I'm still having headaches over how 'marriage' works. On one hand, in a lot of cases, you can just drop in and live together, or work at the more powerful partner's house. On the other hand, France-UK. Maybe it only works as a 'marriage' when both sides are relatively equal, but that theory does have its problems.

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
By which I mean---I'm perfectly OK with UK being cute, but handling that pairing in the typical BL way---or the 'otome characterization'---tends to make me headdesk. Uh-uh. If USA behaves like he does in half the fics, UK would probably switch his coffee with shoeshine powder. You don't need SAMs to be a jerk, after all.

[identity profile] festivewind.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Greece x Japan! Greece x Japan!
I bow to you for taking your time translating these every night.

[identity profile] equivalent-t.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
On that point, you do have to wonder why USA is so popular as the predator character. Yeah, he's no saint, and there's probably a fair number of ugly things bubbling under that chirpy exterior---but why is he the sex fiend anyway? Is it the kichiku megane? Really the megane!?

Okay, probably the same reason UK is a hand-wringing, weeping housewife. I once again digress.

(though, we're really not supposed to take it seriously...*laughs*)

I blame my science teacher! He drilled us to 'always try to figure out how things work'! Though, he'd probably never intended it to be used for country slash...

[identity profile] kamachiono.livejournal.com 2008-06-05 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the translation. (Oh man I love Greece muchly...Needs more Egypt around though -sighs-)

Oh man it's funny how I sometimes forget how much of jerks some actual countries were back in the day. But the way she draws and gaggishly uses them, makes me forget and go all "AWWW EVERY COUNTRY IS AMAZING!!"

I mean seriously UK has been a jerk to almost everyone...Even USA had its own moments....And Spain...Well most of it's victims are dead within American soil now aren't they? owo;;;;

[identity profile] kohikki.livejournal.com 2008-06-06 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the translation!

Greece is so cute!

[identity profile] sapphirus.livejournal.com 2008-06-08 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
..If I'd known or realize you made an LJ comm for it, I'd have joined it earlier than now. D: *goes on reading spree!*

[identity profile] kamachiono.livejournal.com 2008-06-10 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I know right? The interactions of all three really make me giggle. I really wonder when they drew them since other artists know what Turkey looks like huh?

Indeed! (That is a surprise!) Ahahaha yeah I kind of forget about history until I think about it. Then I look off to the side wondering "Yet...sooo...cute."

[identity profile] rubychu.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
haha egypt is probably 394839 years old @___@

[identity profile] beldarius.livejournal.com 2008-09-13 08:06 am (UTC)(link)

I know you're gonna look at me weird for saying this, but... I keep imagining him pregnant of all things possible. o________o My mind is always working all weird on me.

[identity profile] ashusatan666.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] pana.livejournal.com 2008-10-03 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, Greece's surname means "watermelon".

[personal profile] drgaellon 2009-01-10 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want to include it, the Greek text says "Hellenike Demokratia" (The Greek Democracy).

I have a doubt! x__x in the profile says the Greece's birthday is on October 28th but I see that everybody say that is on February 3rd

...

[identity profile] matuniko.livejournal.com 2009-06-09 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
THE NATIONAL FLOWER OF GREECE IS AN OLIVE?!

[identity profile] 9tix1.livejournal.com 2009-07-24 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The date of birth thing has startles me as well; But behold, I have found a solution; First it was October 28th but Himaruya changed it to Feb 3rd and Feb 3rd was printed as Greece's birthday in the manga.

You can see more info about it on Hetalia Wikia(´ v`)
