MATURE TAG

Am I offended by NC-17 posts?
Of course not, I just think that along with the fanfic and fanart tags there should also be a MATURE or PRON tag so it's easier to find *nod nod*

I don't mean to spam or anything, I just didn't know where to make this suggestion ^^;

My fellow Hetalia fans, I hear you. And I see sense in this. Allow me however to discuss this with [livejournal.com profile] youkofujima so that we may decide exactly *what* meets the criteria for this tag, just so "Mature" isn't used as a blanket concept.

After all, some Hetalia *strips* would be rated PG-13 at the LEAST, and I wouldn't be too keen on having people see the personification of Italy bouncing, pantless, on Germany's bed while I'm at work. But would that qualify as Mature? No. You could argue that it's too commonplace -- and then after you do it, you feel a strange sort of horror dawn upon you. Yes, you are in a community where a character without pants is a normal occurrence.

Rest assured, however, that this matter has been taken into account, and soon you will see a mod post regarding it.

Can I just say I love this community th~~~~~~~~~is much?

I've never seen a mod with an intro as fabulous and classy as this.

Why, thank you! ^^

I agree; (from the other side of this issue) I was considering contacting one of the mods about the possibility of establishing rating guidelines since not everyone has quite the same ideas about how to label content. A couple of times I've looked at something rated, say, PG-13 and thought it most certainly deserved a higher rating...

My 13-year-old sister was browsing my favorites on Youtube and found some Hetalia vids, and now she's expressing an interest in the series, too (oops x_X), and I know she wouldn't want to stumble across some of that stuff by accident either.

This is indeed a matter that I will bring for discussion shortly (I have to go out right now.)

A good example that comes to mind was an earlier case of a fic featuring gore and cannibalism getting an 'R' rating because there's not explicit sex (*). Now here, I may be a bit subjective, but I can't help but think that death and meat-chomping is a little "worse" than, you know, good ol' consensual boinking.

The problem with a strict rating system is also the fear of falling into categorization. And by that I mean something like what happens while posting on Deviantart.

I drew a design for a square-like design for a logo.
Does that go in "geometric figures" or "designs?" Now, let's assume we go with designs, you get an option for digital art. Go down that road and you find there's seventeen options, one of which is "geometric figures." Another is "logos". I'm confused. Let's go with geometric figures. There's squares, triangles, and circles here. Um. But mine is more of a rectangle...

Hair pulling ensues.

Just the same, is that chaste kissing? Or is that Let's categorize the kissing--

Hair pulling ensues.

So it's a matter of being simple, but effective in the rating.

Anyway, I must go out right now, but I hope we will be solving these doubts shortly! Feel free to suggest ideas, everyone!

(*) Not a criticism to the fic though, but so much as to the rating system.

Ugh, DevArt's category system.

BUT, since individual LJ entries can have multiple tags, and you can browse by more than one tag at once, as well, maybe have tags for nudity, explicit sex, violence, etc? So something could be in more than one category, but one still knows pretty much what's inside the tin.

So you could go for "Mature: Violence", "Mature: Sex". Just two tags. Now, what classifies as sex would probably have to be quite limited. Namely, explicit boinking rather than alluded sex. The latter is practically all of Hetalia.

I'd probably suggest that all entries which use EITHER of those tags would be friend-locked. Just for, you know, cautionary, responsible reasons.

Yeah, I really don't get the fangirl!rating system myself. Seems a lot of writers will rate like foreplay as R even though it should probably be NC-17. Same with violence (or gore). Uhm, lots of violence can be NC-17 too. ._. Not just sexual things...
