To Bay Area/ Nor Cal Hetalia peeps~ Planning post!

Since the Fanime reunion seemed to be a hit, and since there was a lot of interest from people who either couldn't attend or weren't at Fanime, I'd like to organize a gathering for a little later this month (or this summer, if that works better for the most people) for anyone who sees this message who can get to San Francisco when it's planned; cosplayers, photographers, general Hetalia fans, all of ya'll!

Nothing is set at all at this point, so your input is vital! General feedback seems to put any potential gathering in at least two weeks' time, so starting the 21st, what weekends work best for you all? (Keep in mind holidays and conventions and such) I'd say from the 21st of June until mid-August, when schools start to go back as limit.

Another point of interest is where would you like this to take place? There are multiple options: Meet in Golden Gate Park for a picnic/potluck sort of thing, take pictures, and that would be it, or trek off into the city somewhere after the picnic, or skip GGP entirely and start off somewhere else, like Japantown, and not have a picnic. Again, your input is vital! The more people there are, the better GGP or a different outside location would work rather than a downtown point.

For now, what times work (or don't work) for you, and whether you'd be interested in going into the city at all (as the more people who are interested, the more it'll probably be relegated to going after a picnic in a park, most likely GGP). Thanks guys! :D

Edit: bisouspapillon mentioned something that might be appealing to you guys: I don't know how many of you guys live in the city, or in the South Bay or Peninsula, but maybe holding it at a park on the other side of the bay, maybe Cordonices in Berkeley. (1204 Euclid Ave, Berkeley; it's right in the middle, with The Alameda and Grizzly Peak forming N/S borders, and Marin Ave. and Cal forming E/W borders. There will be people who are willing to drive people from BART stations (either North Berkeley or Downtown Berkeley) to Cordonices.) How many of you would be interested if it were held somewhere else around the Bay?

As for where, wandering around the city sounds fun. I mean, aren't there little cities within the city? Like Little Italy, Japantown and Chinatown? I know there are others, too. /so not helpful.

There are smaller cities, but with the exception of North Beach, which is the Italian section and has a park near its limits, most of the sections of the city don't have great places to meet up if the group gets too large. Personally, I'd love to wander around the city, but it may not be practical if we get a lot of people.

Yay! I wasn't able to go to the last one, so I hope I can go to this one!
I'm free now until June 23rd and July 24th until school starts again.

I'd like to retain at least a small amount of dignity since chances are I'll be cosplaying, so hopefully not Japantown (as much as I love going there). So somewhere like Golden Gate Park would be nice.

Palo actually proposed having it on our side of the bay this time, as none of us actually live in SF, it seems like, so it doesn't really seem any less convenient for anyone (though I suppose people we don't know may live in SF). We thought if we wanted to do a picnic we could maybe go to Cordonices, though I do agree that GGP is bigger and offers a better array of different places for different kinds of pictures.

I want pictures of a Taiwan with the Turducken from last time. I don't know why, that just sounds AWESOME.

Edit: Furthermore, if we did a picnic, we should make sure it's a potluck and that everyone brings something, or at least try to enforce it (because I understand that not EVERYONE will be able to bring something), because last time Tia, Emily, and Nate ended up bringing all the food, and I don't want to put anyone in that position again, though it definitely was more than enough food.

Edit Again: It should almost definitely take place after AX, because I think Liet, Russia, and Italia are all going to that, and there are probably even more people who'd like to come to the meet-up that are going to AX. It sounds like they're rushing to finish cosplays and other preparations, so it might be best to hold it post-AX.

Third Edit: O____O I think Kristin is leaving on the 22nd of July, and Tia gets back from NY on the 20th or 21st, so we were thinking of squeezing something right in between. XDDD

Oh! alskerulaskdj that would be more convenient, especially since I'm already going to be spending money getting into the city daily. I'll definitely put it up there as a suggestion! Cordonices would probably be better than Tilden, since Tilden is super easy to get lost getting to.

.....the only problem with that is that the 20th is a Monday. Which puts "squeezing something right in between" in the middle of the week. Which would be okay for a reunion for the smaller group, but not for a large gathering.

Yep! Right now is mostly to get together how many people are interested and about when would be best so that a more concrete date and location can be set. Hopefully, I'll be able to get that up before next Friday.

l-lol. Cordonices is a park up in the Berkeley hills. It's up at the top of the ridge, not quite up where Tilden begins, but up there.

Only problem with Japantown now is that we're currently looking at upwards of 30 people, with more as a possibility, and sadly, Japantown's pretty small for a group that size for a gathering. We might do a different park than GGP, either in the city or out of it though. I hope you'll be able to make it though!

I love taking candid pictures of people; I used to go around focusing the camera with the shutter half-pressed, take it down to my side to get people's guards down, and then whip it up and press the shutter the rest of the way. My old camera had a kick-ass setting for that; one advantage of point-and-shoots to fancier cameras. :D

I'm in Sacramento, so everything's more or less equidistant from here (i.e., a drive XD), so I'm game!

So far I'm personally busy ..every weekend up to and including AX weekend, then not specifically until SDCC weekend. But I want to come down :D

...and I really hate cosplaying in JapanTown when there's not an event there, it just seems so... idk. I always just feel super uncomfortable XD; Especially in military uniforms with a WWII theme! Very no.

It's looking like there's a weekend (I think it's the one right after AX) that works for everyone so far in mid-July, so that'll probably be it.

*nods* I totally feel the same way about Japantown and cosplaying there (and even to an extent, having charms on my bag and stuff orz;;), and it's definitely looking like we've got too many people for it to be reasonable anyways.

Any day during a weekend is fine with me (But more convenient on Sunday). Like most people, I would prefer it to be after AX (because of costumes and things). Anytime during August is a-okay.

If the gathering is in GGP, I would definitely go since I can go there easily and be able to bring food. Unfortunately, if the gathering is outside of SF (Like across the bay bridge), I would have some trouble getting there.

AX is Anime Expo, a huge con down in LA right around 4th of July, so it'll most likely be the 11th or 12th of July. :D
