Questions, cosplay, sort-of-art

So I plan to cosplay Arthur Kinkland Kirkland, and I've got a few questions for those who already have or know our favourite Brit better than I do atm:

1.) How did you UK cosplayers go about doing the leather strap that goes diagonally across his chest? I don't want it to look too thin, like cloth, so I plan to use a thin leather belt. The problem is how to secure it onto the jacket while still making the jacket.. Removeable, LOL. ('Cause I intend to somehow make it a part of the jacket already-- I was considering using snap buttons but, uh, not sure about the feasibility D:)
2.) Does his pants have hooks for belts? D: If not, would putting really thin, black belt loops on the sides make the costume look awkward?
3.) Hidekaz has confusing references. Does Arthur have 3, 2 or no buttons on the cuff of his (jacket's) sleeve? Also, what color buttons did you guys use? Bronzeish silver? Silver?

(I'd post this to hetalia_cosplay but.. It doesn't seem very active right now) Thanks! ;D

*Needs to figure out how to make her nose look.. Sharper* Thick eyebrows need to be thicker plz! Unstyled wig needs to be styled and cut too. (That is why Im obviously covering it with headphones and hands LOL)

And as for the pseudo-art *cannot scan* *dies*

Oh hai Princess Vulnerable-Looking Arthur. I added those crowns/hats last minute LOL and it shows HAHAHA

(Do I have to fill out the submission form even though it isn't really.. "legit" fanart?) :3

Thank you guys! :)

That is the cutest art ever. ;_____________;
Wish I was a cosplayer to help, but I'm not, haha. Good luck!

That art.

I'm in a fit of giggles.

I've never cosplayed england, but I suppose I can give you some thoughts.

1)so the strap does not fall off the shoulder, I believe it's secured under those little flaps on the shoulders (not sure what exactly they're called) and then attached to the belt. This way you can just take off the belt and take the upper strap off by unbuttoning the flap on the shoulder.

If there is no button on the shoulder to lift the flap (some have a button, some don't) I suggest sewing some sort of loop on one end so you can thread the belt onto it so it is secure in the back, threat it through the shoulderflap, and then hook it onto the front of the belt.

2)I'm not sure what part of the outfit you are referencing.

3) I believe it has one. However, in the giant folder of Hetalia cosplay pictures I have, the England cosplayers have opted to not have a button so I could be wrong. This is the part where you do avid research or "be creative" as I've been told about doing an Austria cosplay.

1) I would probably just make the loop at the one end and then craftily sew it to the front so it doesn't look so noticeable.

2) Oh oh. Yeah...the belt hangs on it's own as far as I can see.

My England cosplay is actually a proper military uniform, so I'm guessing that numbers of buttons etc. are correct and accurate. XD;;

1) I used two identical belts. 1 goes around the waist as normal, the other through the flap on the right shoulder. I attached mine by riveting them togethor at the back then, for the front, I basically chopped off the buckle of the vertical belt so that only the LOOP was left. Does that make sense? So then you can feed the vertical loop through the horizontal belt, buckle them BOTH up et VOILA. You can still get in and out. XD (I'm sorry, I really suck at explaining things. Wish I knew how to add pictures to comments...)

2) The belt is held in place with loops, yes, but on the JACKET, not the trousers (Pants to you Americans X3). Having a belt floating around unatached is a pain in the ass, I know. =_=;;; grumble* Oh, and there ARE loops on the trousers but really, you can't see much of them under the bottom of the jacket so it doesn't matter either way.

3) The buttons on my uniform were originally bright, shiny gold in colour, and had to be replaced because they had the regiment arms emblazened all over them. I replaced them with darker, brass buttons, plain and spherical. I wanted it to look a little more 'worn'.
As for the sleeves/cuffs, there are NO buttons. But then, if Himekaz has drawn him differently then what harm is there in taking some artistic liberites? X3

I hope that helps in some way, and that I wasn't too hard to understand. I fail at being English; I'm simply not eloquent enough. X_X

Good luck with your outfit!

1) As for the belt (It is called Sam Browne Belt, used for hanging swords or guns) here's a tutorial link~~ Hope it helps~~^^ (Simply ignore the accessories & you'll have a decent belt to go with~~)
http://www.instructables.com/id/Steampunk-Sam-Browne-Belt/

2) It is better for you to have loops (like those you have on your trousers for belts) at the waist area~ If you strap your belt tight, the hour-glass body shape will be seen (which you don't want to because you are crossplaying~~ Unless you are going for a genderbending Arthur XD) Leaving the belt hanging around at your waist will be a nuisance as well (it will gone twisting all the way from front to the back XD)
Black belt loops? Hmm, I suggest you to go with the uniform's colour (which is olive green) so that it matches the uniform~

3) Buttons? Is there any button on his sleeves? I don't recall seeing them~ But Himaruya often changes the details on the nation's attire, so it's up to you whether you want to add buttons or not~~^^
As for me, I choose some golden-in-colour antique-looking buttons~ I simply ignore what Himaruya had drawn because those adorable buttons contrast so well with the uniform itself XD

Good luck~ Hope to see your Arthur cosplay soon~~^^

PS, Your Princess!Arthur is loved! His expression... His blush... Priceless XD (But Alfred doesn't look like a prince, though XD He looks like a pirate XD)
