I fought with Japan over Korea and lost, aru.
And then Japan's heads of state said I have to give them some territory, but England and some other nations came to take it back.

I feel as if I should take a World History class now... 'cause I have no idea what is going on in this strip. Mmh.

Uh, but yeah, China seems to be made such a chew toy in the series. Probably not too far off of real life. Ah. Poor China.

The strip is basically referring to events after the 1st Sino-Japanese war. China lost and as said in the strip was forced to give Japan territory. Other countries thought of this as a threat to their encroachment in China and instigated the "Triple Intervention"; consisting of Russia (who was the one who mainly instigated it), France (who owed Russia in some sort of alliance I think, and of course his encroachment in south China) and Germany (who thought of this as hitting two birds with one stone; to get Russia's eyes off Germany; get on his good side or something, and to perhaps join in the colonial game and earn territory in Asia). I forgot how England comes in. Anyway, they did indeed help China regain his territory from Japan, but sadly they soon after took advantage of China and took the territory for themselves. This will later anger China a lot and lead to the Boxer Rebellion where in a lot of Chinese would kill foreign people in their country and many Christians too; foreign or Chinese. Ah, the encroachment of other countries in China will also anger Japan somewhat and somehow instigate the Russo-Japanese war.

Eh, hope that helped. Sorry if I'm a bit random at saying all these stuff. I'm not sure if I'm completely correct too. I read about this a long while ago. I may not have remembered things correctly. ^^U
