(notes beforehand) - This was written mostly from notes taken during a Chinese history class (that was utterly fascinating). Any information that follows is not intended to be wrong, but I apologize beforehand if I did say something entirely wrong...
Story start:
It was the Paris Peace Conference, May 4, 1918.
China sat quietly in his chair, waiting his turn to speak. He did, however, let out a small smile. After all this trouble, the war was over, and his requests would finally be fulfilled. He had been a good member of the Allies group.
"I don't care!" France nodded in silent seething agreement, his face set hard in an uncharacteristic anger, as his prime minister pounded the table with demands. "Of course, all gathered were tired. It had been a long war. "I want Germany punished! He is to blame! I don't want this to ever happen again! Germany should be crippled, politically, militarily, economically so he never invades Franch again!"
In his seat behind his two representatives, China nodded as well, not particularly caring what was being said. He had sent labour to France to help keep the workforce from depleting. What would he get in return for that sort of aid? His mind continued to wander as France's Minister Clemenceau continued on.
France was rather beaten up. Perhaps China would be kind and say that any rewards for his help could be paid off at a later time, when it was easier on the nation. He was generous and kind after all.
England gave a cough, drawing China's attention back to the present. "I agree Germany should pay reparations, but not to that extent."
Again, China nodded slowly. He was old, despite his youthful appearence, and he understood what was going on. Obviously England realized that if France's demands were accepted the country would become powerful indeed. How intelligent, despite what those eyebrows would suggest. Still, they were rather broad and in dreadful need of a good plucking... In any case, he couldn't wait until England would be forced to realize how much China aided the Allies, even after the Opium wars. Stupid barbaric country.
"I'd like to introduce these points..."
China's smile grew as America's president took the attention of the room. He liked Wilson, and so did his people. After finally ending the cycles of dynasties and turning to this new democracy business, China looked up to the American president.
Wilson was the pinnacle of true democracy. China had based his new democratic government after his Wilsonian Idealism. Sure it had failed, but that was because of the corruption in the government, not the idealism itself. The idea of self-determination was buried deep into the hearts of him and his great people. It was something that made the past two hundred years more bearable.
A moment of silence brought him back to the current. Ah, it was his time now. Now his people could speak and reap the rewards for helping through this world war.
One of the two delegates stood and addressed the rest. "China wants to end the spheres of influence on our great nation."
China nodded sagely, his face setting itself into a look of calm competence. He had been waiting for this day for a very long time. Finally, he would be able to get his country back together and raise up back into one great nation.
As he thought, the delegate continued. "China also wishes to cancel the 21 Demands with Japan."
Despite himself, China frowned. Japan. He had raised the country up himself, and this was how he had been repaid? Silly child. He would see his transgressions.
"Finally, China would like the Shandong Province returned, as it was agreed with Germany that it would be returned to China's rightful rule."
"China has agreed to give that land to Japan." One of Japan's representatives said.
"That was made by a forceful mockery of diplomacy, aru." China said with a small displeased frown. "You should also leave Manchuria and Mongolia, aru."
"But you signed the papers..." Japan fished out a carefully folded document, setting it on the table, before his representatives.
"It does look official..." America said with a helpless smile. Wilson stood by the nation's side, obviously troubled.
China stood. "But it was under forceful means, aru! It was not the people's will, aru! It was that Yuan Shikai who signed it in secret, aru!" He knew he would garner no aid from any other nations but America. Surely Mr. Wilson would not let this happen to him, yes? "I did not know of this signing until it was done, aru! You, Japan, did it behind my back, aru! You who I raised my very own self, aru!"
"It does look official..." Wilson repeated, his brow furrowed.
"Aru..." China uttered weakly, slumping slightly. He wished he had brought a panda.
"...."
A tense moment of silence reigned before being broken as France spoke once more. "So this of Germany... I still feel we should-"
"You ignore me, aru?!" China shifted to look at all gathered in the room. No one met his gaze, not even the Mr. Wilson. "B-but... After all this trouble, aru..."
A Chinese delegate was already hurrying to find someway of communication back to his homeland.
"Aru..." China repeated weakly, his face hardening. Numbness slowly gave way to calm anger. He could feel it rise as news spread in his home amongst his people. "You..." He raised his eyes slowly to glare hatefully at America and his president. "I thought of all people you would help me, aru. You have betrayed me, are. You and your idealism, aru. I should have known it was but false words that only sound pretty."
He turned to Japan, though he said nothing. He was sure his meaning was clear in the withering glare. With the aid of the remaining delegate, he left the room to return home and fix and patch his great nation back together by himself.
He would show them all.
(notes.. afterhand?) - Goodness it's been a long while since I've tried to write a fanfic.. I hope this wasn't too painful to read. ><;;;
