Picture Questions

I've been curious for a very long time now, so I'd really like to know where icon-makers got their images? They're all pretty and I'd like to contribute to the fandom one way or another (I completely fail in scanlations). Please and thank you! :3♥

Common picture sites are good to search in;; PhotoBucket, DeviantArt has some decent drawings (give credit as well, of course), etc. I usually just search "hetalia" on them to get the pictures I want.

Another great place to get Hetalia fanart is 4chan. They almost always have a Hetalia thread up now, but an easier way to grab some fanart without having to go through the rest of the threads is the rapidshares section; /rs/.

Search hetalia, bam, downloadable picture folders of APH.

Hope that helps~

That's where the 4chan threads are being archived, to the best of my knowledge.

It was working fine for me when I posted it. :( Try later.

The author's blog (http://himaruya.blog61.fc2.com/) has a lot of images, especially if you follow this category (http://himaruya.blog61.fc2.com/blog-category-7.html) and this category (http://himaruya.blog61.fc2.com/blog-category-0.html). (The other categories may also have good stuff, but I haven't had a chance to go through them.)

I just recognized America's song on this (http://blog-imgs-21.fc2.com/h/i/m/himaruya/1280x768.jpg) image. Awesome! >:3

All those lyrics are from Smashing Pumpkins songs; I had to google them. And now that image is my current background. It's quite lovely.

*blink* Smashing Pumpkins did a remake of that? I was thinking of the Letters To Cleo version myself, but that works!

I think the song was originally done by Cheap Trick, and apparently the Smashing Pumpkins did a cover of it. The other lyrics on the image are from "Where Boys Fear to Tread" and "The Sacred and the Profane," at least according to what I've found off google.

Thanks!! ^__^ Yeh, it was Cheap Trick, I think- but Letters to Cleo was the first one I heard, and it stuck with me. *shrug*

I may be a purist but I prefer icons that are made of official art only. Good sources for that is the Axis Hetalia webcomic site and the artist's blog (tho' be careful 'cause he sometimes posts art from another one of his comics, some of the characters look rather similiar). The web site for the anime doesn't have a lot on it but it does have some pictures of the chibi characters, which is nice 'cause those are no longer up on the webcomic's site.

hetanavi (http://hetanavi.sakura.ne.jp/) is a great resource. It's a database of a ton of APH fansites. You need to know a little bit of Japanese, though- but just knowing katakana, doing some trial-and-error, and/or muddling around with the help of Google Translator will get you there in the end. You check off イラスト (illustrations) in the first blue section and the name of a country in the キャラクター (character) area and hit the grey search button at the top. Voilà. You can waste a LOT of time poking around the fansites, though- just a warning!

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] moriyama_umi in that I would only use official illustrations for icons (if I had space for extra icons). If I were to use fanart for icons, it seems proper to me to ask the artists for permission- no matter what language they speak. Just common courtesy, y'know? But I realize a lot of other people don't feel this way- I think I'm the only person who gets irritated by icon posts that don't credit the artist. ^_^;

If you're gonna use Photobucket, the best album to look through is the one owned by the user "Blehing" - it's organized into folders ♥
