[Blog Update] Doyaa!

New update! No translations atm, I'm half asleep, so help would be great.

Title: Doyaa

I couldn't decide whether to pour my efforts into drawing England and France in one of their battle uniforms, or if I should go with something a bit different than usual.

↓I simply added a second part to the article below.
There's still more to Grandpa Rome's story that's yet to come. It'll be posted little by little.

[Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hikari_kaitou for translating! Also, there was a ninja update on this post too, which is also translated now.]

Personally me, I hate what fandom made from original 2Ps, they just had slightly different colors and their personalities were made slightly darker, but that was probably all. But fandom? It made their personalities opposite to 1P charas and psychopatic murderers who want to kill you because they love you, and their life goal is to execute their counterparts. And what is the worst, some people start liking these characters more than original ones. No, thank you. That's exactly why I hate (fandom's) 2P concept. It was made into something it wasn't supposed to be, and everyone act like it's a normal thing.

[identity profile] onacrystal.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
You, sir, have my deepest respect. And I thought I was alone

I think human beings, just like us, have dark sides, but that doesn't mean it has to be completely opposite from the original persona as if the poor character has schizophrenia or something.

When I see 2P headcanon pages, I feel like, didn't you just make stuff up? Doesn't that just make it another Mary Sue OC? And when I play my characters historical (plus more angst), people think I am a 2p.... I almost felt offended. Almost.

I love this France as in.... he looks so detached, just like a regular Frenchman during impressionism... or even, a soldier who has lost all hopes on humanity during WWI. It is part of 1P Francis Bonnefoy and will always be. That's just a secret side of him that does not express out often.

I hope you find my two cents worthy.

[identity profile] misty-rain.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the fandom's initial ideal of making them as crazy and evil as possible has lessened somewhat. I've seen better (or at least different) takes on the 2P concept than just psychopathic killers. There are some of those, but some have different takes or have moved away from that concept. They're characters are more like the opposite of their counterparts in terms of personality, but without crossing the line and going into 'psychopath with no positive, likable qualities that any human being could ever relate to'. They may be more negative or more positive, but they don't want to kill anyone. They're closer to 'rough around the edges, but still good with good qualities'.

I will admit that my first exposure to the fandom's 2P depiction of the original characters turned me away almost instantly, especially when people claimed these characters were 'dark and edgy; better than the original'. I thought they were dumbly cruel and downright horrible, and people only seemed to like them because evil is awesome, or something. But like I've said, I've seen more positive takes on it too where it wasn't so bad at all.

[identity profile] boo-sagara.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I feel more or less like you: on one hand, I also think that more recently the fandom is making less crazy-killer-evil- sadist like 2Ps and is trying to give them some positive qualities, what is good!

But on the other hand... I had seem so many things I hated about some 2P designs and comments about how better than the originals they are because they are "darker" (I know it shouldn't, but that kind of comment hurted me a lot ^^'!) that I still feel bitter about 2Ps =/

[identity profile] misty-rain.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I can fully understand that feeling.
I really dislike when characters are re-written to be totally crazy and completely heartless, and it's excused as being more 'real' or 'so much more interesting'; this is especially true for Hetalia. I sure don't find them cooler or more edgy; they're just depressingly unlikable, and seeing them praised or declared better than the original gave me a poor first impression of the 2P characters. Comments about how the original good characters are weak or boring really bothered me; as if being a well-rounded character with good and bad qualities is somehow bland, poor writing or undesirable. It just seemed so backwards to me. ._.

[identity profile] rikkaidai-fuji.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand your feeling ,my problem actually lies on how...I have rarely seen ones with "considerably good characterization" of 2p, if I could say that. Earlier part of this 2p shenanigans was awful for me, most things I have seen were like "oh they're the badass part of the country, the evil militaristic part, the crimes of that country etc etc" and I can say first impression was quite important for me. I personally love the original design of the 2ps, I know we're free to interpret their characters in our ow qay but I guess I don't agree with most of them.

[identity profile] perryplatypus.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[identity profile] webcomix.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I never got into the 2P fandom because when I see/hear/think 2P, it's in the context of those melee/fight video games where the colouring is just slightly different so two players can use the same character. Take Super Smash Bros N64 for example; I remember "alternate Pikachu" is literally Pikachu wearing a blue party hat...

Like, what I DO love the most about Hetalia is the many different angles you can take it from hence the immense freedom in creating fanworks, and I also understand that fans were going nuts over lack of update...but yeah, it kind of went overboard.

[identity profile] xxmapsyrxx.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well said, completely agree.

Hey it's you!

[identity profile] webcomix.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeees it's me...?

(I will be honest, your username looks very familiar but I can't remember when I've seen it before/we've talked before OTL sorry)

[identity profile] xxmapsyrxx.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's okay. I was the person spazzing about Dr. Sun Yat-Sun with you regarding the character design of Macau. And I also very connivingly asked you to give me a tour of Hong Kong if I ever go there.

I never could hop on the fandomwagon with 2p!talia. It was nice to see it when Hima-papa showed us, but once the fandom took it... Every time I looked at them, I could only literally see a different color of the character. I can see the idea that they have more negative qualities, just by looking at Italy's and Japan's outfits, but that doesn't mean they are ruthless, sadistic murderers that love killing. Though more recently I've been seeing positive characteristics with them, so I think the fandom's views on these characters are starting to change slowly.

[identity profile] lildeadkitty.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, but have you seen Miaman's 2p stuff on tumblr? It's really cute and they actually have proper personalities and stuff. I especially love her 2p Prussia http://asksilentknight.tumblr.com/

[identity profile] poisonoustiger.livejournal.com 2013-10-24 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with all of you. A "slightly different color and slightly darker personality" is much more interesting than psychopathic murderers. I really didn't understand why the fandom needed to depict them that way...we already had Dark!Hetalia and Cracked!Hetalia when the 2Ps were first introduced. Why would we need a 3rd "dark/evil/psycho" group?

I don't know if I hit the mark properly, but this was my take on it (http://poisonoustiger.deviantart.com/art/Since-Things-are-Different-on-2P-Earth-341298902). Yes, I used whybeek's designs...but they "appeared" to be the closest designs to Hima-papa's female 2P Allies characters.

Another update to the same post!

[identity profile] elysiumspirit.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I remember my personal 2P designs and how I imagined them as more WWII-oriented battlefield versions of the characters rather than complete psychopathic opposites. Seeing Himaruya possibly have that take on them makes me kind of happy since we seem to be on a similar train of thought.

Loving all these updates after such a long silence ;w;

Thank you for the translation!!
I'm really liking Grandpa Rome's story, so I'm glad to there will be more. :)

Chibis are so adorable! Thanks for posting!

For translation, I think [different than usual] is about their uniform, not about his activities:
[text]
I'm divided between robust army fatigues and different one than usual for France and England.

I've updated quietly two articles below.
Grandpa Rome still be what-d'you-call-it after that, say, lingering regret.

[identity profile] emsiecat.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh thank goodness, i don't like the idea of 2P's at all personally, but at least now we have some canon designs so that the fandom will stop making their own and giving them ridiculous personalities just to be 'darker' and 'edgier'. It was getting just a little tiring seeing it crop up and done to death on my dash to be perfectly honest. (apologies to anyone who personally liked the fanon designs).

Aah, I thought that Grandpa Rome comic ended abruptly, look forward to seeing more =)

[identity profile] rikkaidai-fuji.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
same and I think some 2ps designs(not all..but most) are ridiculous :<

[identity profile] boo-sagara.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally would like to see more official 2p and nyos so it's good to know that Hima hasn't forgot about them!

Oh the Rome strip didn't ended up yet yeeees ~

[identity profile] nike2422.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish 2P would disappear forever. The Nordics cartoon and the Rome cartoons make me happy because this is more like the wonderful Hetalia I remember when it was about nations and having fun with history. 2P, the cats and Nyotalia are nothing but fan service and it really doesn't contribute anything to Hetalia except make the fans who like those things happy. I just keep on enjoying what I like about Hetalia and ignore the other nonsense.

[identity profile] saku-p.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think there's anything wrong with a little fan service here and there, plus hetalia has always had silly moments. Also the canon 2p's do seem to have history to them judging by 2p Italy's fascist uniform and 2p Japan's imperial uniform,(and culture judging by 2p nyo japan's red spider lily, which might be significant) but this is just my two cents.

[identity profile] misty-rain.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
These are similar to my feelings as well. Half of Hetalia is silly moments, or just plain fan service.
I mean, the Christmas Bloodbaths, April Fools, Halloween, etc. were mainly fan service, though they sometimes gave us further information in regards to the characters dispositions. I wouldn't want to see them done away with, but I can recognize they were largely just for fun. Don't get me wrong; I would dislike it if Hetalia lacked substance entirely and just went into the realm of pure fan service, but I wouldn't want to see events like the ones I mentioned never happening either.
I still much prefer canon over all other forms of Hetalia, but I don't really mind the different universes Himaruya has created for them either.

[identity profile] rikkaidai-fuji.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I may say....fanservice at the right portion? Well ai love Hetalia silliness....fanservice could be part of it and I think without all the events, etc etc, it'll be different? 2p and nyotalia and nekotalia were made for fun by Himaruya, I can say that. Genderbending /every character/ is kind of....a "habit" in most series, whether it's officially made by the author or not. Cat versions...I believe that's because Himaruya loves cats and cats are very popular(everywhere). And 2p...we never know what's 2p exactly are, we're only given designs...as far as I remember? 2p mostly means how colours were altered in fighting games if two same characters were played in the same time. I think it could mean as something as simple as that....to something more we have yet to know or even never know..nevertheless they're designs, pictures made by Himaruya. No one can satisfy everyone at the same time, yes?

[identity profile] misty-rain.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! I like how Himaruya is doing things, and you are right in saying fans of a series will do things like gender-bends on their own as well. I'm sure we all have things about our favorite series that we'd like to see a little different, but are overall content with the way things are (else we'd have left).

[identity profile] dokudoki.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hetalia is awesome, because it can be everything from silly and cute to sad and serious. You can just pick up one and enjoy it, or you can enjoy it everything at once! There's still a trouble though if you for example don't like fs part and even so you see it wherever you look, cause everyone are possesed with it. But though you may disagree with me now, Hetalia is doing it just right and relatively balanced. It depends on where are you looking for it.

[identity profile] misty-rain.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hetalia is doing it just right and relatively balanced".
My feelings exactly.

[identity profile] nike2422.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
If the point of the alternative colorings for the Hetalia basis is for darker characterizations related to historical events like WWII then I would be more interested. The fan 2P characters though, that I wish would go away.

[identity profile] onacrystal.livejournal.com 2013-10-21 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That means we need to eliminate the entire teenager group plus the upcoming weaboos as well.

I tried talking to a 2P player one time and it is 100 times more confusing than things like unicorn!fem!sadistic!homestuck (I just made that up). I wonder what can be done to ameliorate the fandom situation....

Never been a fan of 2p!talia, but it's nice to see some new designs. Thank you for posting!

I just can't connect at all with the 2p!characters, or at least the fandom's portrayal of them in general. In my opinion, none of the 1p!characters need to be darker or edgier to be likable - they're likable the way they already are. I have no desire to see a world in which all of them are sadistic/psychopathic/edgy/bloodthirsty/dark. If the 2p!verse was treated as something along the lines of "alternate universe in which all the characters are comedic villains", I wouldn't mind it so much, but some people seem to take it as "the better, darker, edgier alternative" to 1p!Hetalia, and that saddens me...

Thanks for the update and translations guys!

I've never been a fan of 2p either, the designs are great but personally the fandom killed it for me almost instantaneously. I don't like the fandom's concept of it, many really take the "dark and edgy" feel and ramp it up to ridiculous levels.

[identity profile] 4n631ic0b1ivi0n.livejournal.com 2013-10-22 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
are they really 2p characters? or is this just speculation? I know the jpg is titled 2p, but I'll still be cautious about it. I really don't know. *confused* better safe than sorry.
