Origin of the name "Bad Touch Trio"

Does anybody know how the name “Bad Touch Trio” came to be used for France, Spain and Prussia? (It’s “Bad Friends Trio” in Japanese; akuyuu (悪友) translates to “bad friends,” not “bad touch,” so it’s not a translation of the Japanese name.) Was it mixing up “Bad Friends Trio” with the title of the Bloodhound Gang song “Bad Touch,” a corruption of “Bad Friends Trio” with the insinuation that the three of them are perverts/molesters, was the actual term for “bad touch” used to describe the trio in Japanese somewhere (and if so, where?), or was it something completely different?

I wasn't in the fandom yet when it originated, but I always assumed it to mean that the three of them have a bad touch. You know, as in "with a touch of garlic".
Which would fit, because France is a minor pervert, Spain gets scary when drunk, and Prussia... well, he's Prussia. ;)

I had thought that Bad Touch Trio would refer them from the things like Spain was a pedo, France the rapist, and Prussia a hardcore pervert. Back when the fandom was really messed up on character interpretations or misunderstandings. It kind of still happens here, but we got a little smarter to understand the way to describe Spain, France, and Prussia were really bad.

I also think not many people would be aware of the Japanese nicknames for it. Sometimes we have to rename it to understand better. It can be said for pairings or groups. For example, the Japanese nickname for France/America/Canada/England aka the FACE family is called the New continent family(新大陸家族).

I'm pretty sure it was basically something along the lines of people knowing the Bad Friends Trio nickname and someone going "Bad Friends Trio? More like the Bad Touch Trio! Hurrhurrhurr!!1" and it catching on. Back then fandom trends spread rampantly to an obnoxious extent. For instance, the joke about Prussia claiming to have a 5 meter long dick got so ubiquitous that people actually started believing it was something he said in canon.

It's basically as dubtalia_ap and miezen said.

I think it's also gotten to a point where people are like "wait. You mean it's Bad friends trio and not bad touch trio??" simply because people use the latter so often that they haven't heard it any other way

+1 to everybody else. I *hate* Bad Touch Trio, it makes liking them sound super skeevy. Bad Friends Trio forever.

I honestly have no clue where "Bad Touch Trio" even comes from. Or why it's used. I mean, Himaruya himself has called them the Bad Friends Trio (Akuyuu), and I believe there's official merchandise that also calls them that, whereas there's nothing official calling them the Bad Touch Trio.

Thanks for bringing up this discussion. I have never been comfortable or amused by the name "Bad Touch Trio" just because...well, it sounds STUPID as well as incorrect. "Bad Friends" make more sense, especially considering how Himaruya has mentioned that the relationship between them (ie. France and Spain) is actually detrimental and "unhealthy", yet they continue to hang around each other all the time anyway. So it's more that they treat each other badly, but are still friends for some reason.

Yeah, "Bad Touch" just has that air of fandom silliness gone too far.

I'm positive the term was started by someone in the Western fandom. I have a friend (can't remember who though >.<) who was friends a person that either started the term or was one of the ones spreading it around (I had just recently joined the fandom when the term was being picked up). My friend had said it was based off of "Bad Touch” by the Bloodhound Gang and I think the person thought that it could go well with the "Bad Friends" since you just had to change one word and the fact that Prussia, Spain, and France are kind of seen in the fandom as a very handsome group that are kind of touchy-feely with others (like in a lot of fanfictions you see Francis doing his usual thing around others, Spain smothering Romano, and Prussia hanging off of someone or leaning on someone).
