Already lots of new merchandise released! A shame they're all using the same two set of art "orz But, hopefully they'll get more creative for future merch, I'd like to see more variety (and especially more characters!!!); I can't wait to see what else they will come up with.
And fingers forever crossed they'll release more figures and/or plush. And prays to god they'll release some Australia merch when he appears in the anime--

And then sadface forever because the notebook'll match my PokemonMate notebook and the realization will hit that I can never unwrap it, and I'll then never get to see both sides of the art. Ffff.

I think the new pairings are so that if someone wanted to buy say for example Germany and Italy's merch then instead of buying a set of Germany and Italy together they have to buy the Italy + America set and the Germany + Russia set, so they make more money that way. Hence why none of the usual pairings/groups are together.

Maybe, but that doesn't seem like that's entirely it...

Italy/Germany was the unsellable pair before, but now they've only replaced it with Japan/France. xD
It has the same chance of increasing sales as decreasing them.

Maybe it's just for variety's sake-- new season, new art, so why not new pairings?


I guess though, it doesn't matter what the reason is at all. I'm just glad that now I NEVER have to buy unsellable France or China merchandise again. Everything's so beautiful. :'D

Japan/China stuff actually really didn't, aside from the giant pillow.

Wait, people wouldn't buy Germany/Italy merch? But that's one of the most popular pairings! That and Usuk, Fruk, RUsAme etc.
Though I read somewhere that Japan/Italy is much more popular in Japan.

I know, it's weird. They're an insanely popular pairing for fanart, stories, doujinshi,
but when it comes to official merchandise Germany's the only one of the pair that can sell, and not even too well at that.
Italy, France and China have no popularity sale-wise pretty much anywhere,
Russia merchandise can't sell well in Japan (Exception seems to only be the DVD One Coin),
and Japan merchandise can't sell well outside of Japan (Or inside Japan, either, if he's not paired with England).

I can't take the China, Taiwan and Hong Kong fandoms into account, though-- I still haven't figured out how to tell what listings are auctions, let alone watch what price they end at. >__> So China and Japan might have more popularity than it looks like, but I can't guarantee that. All I can really know for sure there is Russia/China's a popular pairing in fangoods. Which says nothing.

And the same art as in the same pose/picture of the new Animate art style. The stickers and the pencil board are using the same default promo images :( And the notebook and strap is different, but it's not as interesting either? New merch is great, but more variety and aesthetics pls //fussy

If you take a look at the new pairings, you'd notice that they now have a more popular character in every one (aka one which is more popular than the other so then it'll boost sales for all of them inside of having a huge discrepancy between sets).

Yeah, that's why I'm asking. There's no one item that's both popular characters-- so which one are people guessing will be the most popular?

But I guess it's moot now-- order's shown so far that for western fandom, it's still America and England. They just have to buy more and suffer the unsellable extras. xD

I'm interested to see if it becomes different when pairs are on the same item, rather than separate items in the same pack, though!
