//American as well

I've never heard people call them ugly, but (as a glasses-wearer myself) I've had people I don't even know randomly ask me, "Hey, why don't you get contacts?"

When I first got into Hetalia, Alfred's design confused me because I thought the glasses made him look smart ("Americans aren't smart!").
Now I realize that they make him look cool and a bit dorky sometimes, which is perfect because that's what he is.

Yeah, I remember being heckled that I would be cute if I didn't wear glasses.

I'm told that America's glasses being Texas is a joke referring to America seeing the world through the tunnel vision of guns, God, and guts...so if America thinks glasses=ugly, then maybe its Texas that makes him an 'Ugly American'?

Except other people think glasses = cute fetish O_o

I hear it quite a lot, actually. Some even get teased for wearing them (usually kids by their classmates). :\

I think they can be quite cute, but some see them as nerdy and would much rather have contact lenses or other alternatives.
