For the Volume 5 bonus I really want to draw characters that didn't appear much in Volume 5.

He released some mysterious designs before that he denied were them, but said were supposed to look like "Eastern-European", and noted that he needed to work more on the boy's face. They looked rather different from this duo. There was some draft of a girl with braided hair too (some work-in-progress pic), but I'm not sure if it was unrelated to the nations or if it could've been a potential design.

Although-! There are some Tumblr people right now saying the guy's outfit looks more Portuguese than anything out of Central Europe, while the girl's outfit looks about right. We'll have to see what happens, if this pans out or if it's Himaruya just drawing random people again after all. But judging by timing, hmm...

Chances are, they might be people from Chibisan. I don't want to get too excited about new nations until there's confirmation, y'know?

Although, I have to admit that I couldn't help but wonder if the girl would be Czechia. I seem to remember Himaruya had some draft picture of some girl with braids too (and a kerchief like the short-haired girl that was thought to be her), but it was hard to tell if it was for this series, Chibisan, or just some random moe girl he was drawing.

I remember one draft!Portugal had short spiky hair, but he's used the spiky style a bit with guys. I see people thinking it's Slovakia, but we'd really have to see. There's also that little chibi up in the first art that may or may not be some kind of nation. Ah, volume 5 spec~

IMO, there's about as much proof for these being characters from Chibi-san as there is for them being from Hetalia (which is to say, none to very little). A friend of mine just re-read Chibi-san and said that they don't look like any of the established characters there.

Which is not to say that they can't be new characters for Chibi-san, because they certainly may be, but between my vague recollection of there being designs similar to these for Czech and Slovakia, and my personal opinion that the buildings in the background don't seem like the right type of architecture for most places in the US (though I admit I can't speak for 1960's Nantucket specifically), I kind of have a strong feeling that they might be new nations.

Judging from the text translation I suspect Himaruya might just even be drawing random characters again to test out looks/hairstyles/builds/etc.

Keep in mind this is the guy that still won't give a straight answer on New Zealand's gender (though I'm fairly certain he's a boy) so it wouldn't be out of the question for him to screw with us his first post back. :P
