I have a quick question for you all.

I fell out of the fandom a long while ago. But I'm really missing it and want to get back in. How much important stuff did I miss? Last thing I remember happening was the introduction of Romania. D:

Is he still drawing strips? Is the anime over for good?

Romania's introduction was like last year, in Volume 4. . .well, Himaruya disappeared on us(as far as we know, due to having a lot of work to do--he's okay, just swamped!) in the middle of the Christmas/New Years event. You haven't quite missed a whole lot? I'm bad at updating people. Volume 5 is on it's way, though!

-He seems to have stopped updating his blog for now. We don't know if/when he'll be back, but we do know that a new volume is on the way.
-There's no sign of anymore anime episodes at this time.
-You can find pretty much everything here (http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/index.php), so just read anything that's unfamiliar to you, I guess! /o\ Someone else will be more helpful, it's 1AM here and I'm bad at this. (But since Himaruya's disappearance and LJ being a bitch, the fandom's died down quite a bit. . .a lot of people moved to tumblr, so you'll find a fair amount of action on there.)

Like tarafishes said, he stoped updating his blog in the middle of the Christmas Event (in January), probably because he has much work to do.
But now Hetalia is being published in a monthly magazine - Comic Birz. I suggest you look in "links" - "tags" - "official: scanlation " and read the translations of the strisps published in the magazine.
Furthermore, recently new theme songs for other characters are released; for Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada and Seychelles, for example. And soon we will have a CD with the Nordics.
And the volume 5 will be released later this month (if I'm not mistaken).

Welcome back to the fandom! Please forgive any typos, I'm writing this from my phone~

Since Romania was introduced we've had a Halloween event and a Christmas event, which ran late and then came to a sudden stop when Himaruya worked himself sick. He's gotten better but still has a ton of work to do so any Hetalia outside of official stuff has gone on hiatus. Like others said, there are new songs coming out and new strips and the fandom is still fairly active, so Hetalia is certainly not dead, but it has slowed down a lot. The final dub of World Series is about to come out on DVD.

Over on tumblr (where most of the fandom has moved to) Hetalia and Homestuck still have a bit of friction but are ultimately getting along -- there's a good deal of Hetastuck out there actually. We've gone a little bit insane in Hima's absence, to the point of playfully (or legitimately) shipping random background characters in the anime. If you mention Christmas to one of them, be prepared to be met with sobs or at least a "Why would you hurt me in this way". There have been rumors from the other fandoms that the Hetalia fandom has died out,:which has been fervently denied.

If you're looking for a more LJ-based fandom, though, try

hetaliafandomly. The vast majority of them are new fans who met during the Christmas event and wanted a comm where they could hang out and just chat; they're very friendly and respectable.

Tarafishes up there is this comm's glorious new moderator, if I remember correctly. I don't know much about the other comms and how active they are; hetalia_sell is going strong I believe, and there are a few new places to check out.

Ultimately, we're in a halcyon period, but we're getting through. ^^ I don't know you, but it's great to meet you and I hope this was helpful!

Oh, I forgot to mention! In Himaruya's absence the fandomly actually tried to put on their own Easter event; opinions on this are conflicting.

We also have an English dub of Hetalia: Paint It White with bloopers that have gone memetic. And, thanks to a gif and catchy German song, Disco Pogo is now a thing. Casually asking about it will most likely cue spams of rave party gifs featurijgb Hetalia characters as well as videos to go with them. German German Sparkle Party and all that.

I was pretty much going to say all of this, but you did it better than I could. Kudos! Though I also want to point out

captalia has pretty much also shifted to mostly conversation (albeit in all-caps) via our Spam Saturday ~~that last through the whole week~~ threads, and we're quite personable as well. It's all a matter of preference, though.

Ah, yes, CAPTALIA! I was going to mention them but I don't hang out over there, so I really don't know anything about what's going on :'D. You guys are all definitely friendly, you just all have large personalities and the capslock makes it seem very loud. ^^

There have been a few "student exchanges" between the two comms, actually. I think a few members are active in both.

I know there are people who are active in both, but I've never personally hung out in CAPTALIA, so I didn't think I could talk about what was going on there.

That's what we called it when a few Captalians came over to visit us, and some of our members went to visit their comm, and it went back and forth a few times. :D

Hence why it's a matter of preference. Both groups are definitely friendly, but some are very attached to capslock, like me, or get headaches trying to read a comm with all caps (I've met a couple from the Fandomly comm who express preference based on that), and for some it doesn't matter at all. C:
