D: Just means there's no announcement of a fifth from Gentosha or Media Factory, and it's the "last" one Funimation can dub.

There's always still a little bit of hope! They only made DVD versions of half of the Nekotalia Mascot set!
It would take another 8 DVDs to finish them.

I am so relived that Funimation is finally done with this series. Nobody in the fandom would use the word "Bromance" between any of the characters. Trailer blocked in my country, but the implication is they put Sverige and Suomi on the cover. That they did right. Also, including the better, original half of the series is always a nice gesture on their part. I'd love it if this series ended up like Dragon Ball Z and they did a redub in every a few years. Hopefully it would hold at least a single thread towards the original's humor. Funi even said they discarded any serious voice acting because disrespectful accents are "Funny". In reality, China and Russia's voices killed this more than anything else. I'm both impressed and disappointed it made it so far with this dub, and am relived that Funi is done with it.

I think the only voice I could stand was Poland's, but even then they murdered his speech pattern beyond recognition sdgdfdg.

I'm glad it's done, too. There were a few funny moments here and there throughout the dub. However, I didn't care for most of the accents in the dub, and I wish they would have been more just a little serious with the dialogue and narration. The Funi dub just didn't click with me, and I thought they could have done a better job. (I liked their Fruits Baskt dub, so it was sad for me to see what they did with Hetalia.) (>.<)

I couldn't agree more. They inserted a whole lot of crude, stupid jokes where they didn't belong. Just because the series is a comedy, doesn't mean you can ad-lib the whole thing, right? I wish they'd just redo everything after axis-powers. :( They barely take their jobs seriously. I means it's funny already! Their stupid idiotic jokes extra banter kinda ruins the entire message.

^THIS. SO. MUCH. That's probably my single biggest problem with the dub. I found a lot of the dub jokes and narration just inappropriate, and frankly, a little slimy at times. From some of the clips I've seen, it appears they didn't even try to stick to the basic scripts from the Himaruya-sensei's original strips or even the Gentosha anime. I did find a lot of the jokes stupid and idiotic, too.

Hetalia might be a parody, but I believe Himaruya-sensei has obviously puts some research and thought into his characters and strips. And I also believe Funimation didn't really put a lot of thought and research into their dub script. ^^

I'm so glad to know there others like you who agree with me! I wish Funimation did know there are a lot of Hetalia fans who are disappointed in what they did to the anime. (>.<)

It might be that they don't care, so much as not knowing The huge flock of fans that took this fandom by storm include the creepy ones who proclaim themselves as Otaku because they know a few words in Japanese. Those are usually the ones who have their parents buy just about anything related to the flavor of the week, and Hetalia being portrayed by Funi clearly as the "Yaoi show for people with a short attention span" rather than the witty humor shorts by Hima-san... It attracts... Well, I don't want to offend anyone who doesn't fall into this category who learned about Hetalia from the dub so I won't go on with that point. I love you guys. Even if I am pretty quiet here.

As for the joke changes, that's also usually a bit out of taste too, with the most obvious examples being the Holocaust jokes they insisted on adding. Hima clearly stated once that he wanted to completely take out any reference to such events because APH is supposed to be light hearted and fun. Kind of thankful they took out Korea, spare him this dub and the South Korean government from having a much worse reason to be upset.

The narration had a few cute moments, like when Chibitalia was first introduced, but it got old pretty quickly, especially when they decided to ship everyone with everyone during said narration. One of the reasons I liked the original a lot more was the subtle implications that were spread out pretty evenly.

I refuse to watch the dubbed movie. I hopped on the band in 2007, and it was a great shame to see so many people leave after this dub was released. I'm active in the Japanese and Russian fandoms as well, and a lot of people just haven't watched the English dub that I know. If not for the fact that the accents are fake enough for a native English speaker to have trouble understanding. (Poland in episode 1, really).

Can't agree more with this thread. Funimation was formerly my favorite dub company and I used to defend them, but not anymore. They really dropped the ball on this series, made it downright insulting and extremely tasteless in a way that I would never recommend it to anyone for fear that they'd watch the dub here. Hima knew what lines not to cross in terms of his jokes, and Funi went stampeding over those lines then giggled about it like some fanbrat chanting "squee yaoi!" Their marketing, blogs and overall "we know the fans" attitude really put me off as well. It really came across insulting to me as a fan of the series that has been into it for years. Because last I checked fans generally want a faithful adaptation rather than something catered to a niche type of fangirl/boy.

Why did it take me so long to find hetalia fans that think the same way I do. Q_Q I love you guys.
Also, I couldn't have said it better myself. Fangirls would have been just fine with the ORIGINAL version of Hetalia, plus they'd have kept all of the other fans who aren't obsessed with yaoi and pairings and such stupid things, like me. :D Although, I must admit I watched the first two seasons in english before reading any manga or watching them in japanese. I think after season 2 they kinda...well, you read what i wrote earlier.
But I like the accents. They kinda add the right touch, even if they aren't accurate. :)

The accents were/are very annoying to me at times. You're right, sometimes they are very hard just to understand (like dub!Poland).

Oh my gosh I'm finding so many people who i actually agree with here. 0_0 Never before have I seen this many people who agree that funimation should re-dub it. I love the accents, but still, they obviously didn't take the original jokes into account whenever they found the opportunity to say something completely stupid and unreleated that they thought was funny. If we put comments like THIS on funimations website, they may actually do something about it. what do you say?

In total agreement with everything you said. I don't even know who they were aiming for with the marketing; hyperactive 14 year olds girls it seems, but then they make it M (for (M)edgy?). Also, not every line has to be "funny"; it's called a punch line for a reason (what reason I don't know, but it always comes after set-up).

And those voices... That's why I prefer my illegally burnt dvd's the fansubs, though the funimation sub isn't bad (of course, they stuck to the script for that). Even narrator-man and narrator-woman have terrible voices.

Watching the trailer and just... ughhhh *shudders* I'm kind of glad it's so outrageously priced over here; that way I can stick to my illegally burnt dvd's the fansubs and not feel guilty.

I agree with you and the rest of this thread. I watched the first season with an open mind and my verdict was, meh. Then the movie and World Series came along and I got the impression that Funi just stopped caring about the original script. A part of it is what puts me off from buying their DVDs, because why should I pay for something that's been half assed? I would rather spend a little more and support the series by buying the DVDs from Japan if I wasn't broke. It's a shame too because Funimation can make great dubs but unfortunately Hetalia isn't one of them.

I think funimation kinda...ruined the movie and the first seson of world series. It seemed to me like they got too comfortable after the series got popular and just stopped using scripts or anything close to the actual dialogue, and instead just inserted a bunch of stupid half-assed crude jokes in place of important things. :\ I hope this season is better, but looking at the trailer, I'm not to sure.
Oh well, they still have tho original japanese version on it, so...

Thanks, I think I blinked and missed that. I hope they are talking about the last 4 episodes, not just the Chibitalia/America's storage cleaning bits all together, which was on the Japanese fan-disc.
