hetalia | Community Masterlist Update (Finally!!)

This is a notice to say that after a year I have finally caught up with updating the Community Masterlist and RP Community Masterlist pages.

If you run a community, please check the lists to see if your community needs to be added. I pruned a bunch of RP comms and I might have taken off some on accident due to it being hard to tell if some are still active. (This is mostly Plurk and Twitter RPs, along with forums that are set to private.)

I am currently not listing communities hosted on: Facebook, deviantART or Gaia.

You can post on this request thread to have your community added.

Community Masterlist

I'm sure most people know that many of the side communities for Hetalia have really died down. This makes it a challenge for me to prune. In most cases I left the links up, for research purposes if anything. The ones I pruned were:

-Dead communities where only select members can post.
-Communities that never took off and only had a few posts.
-Contest and Challenge communities, because most were dead and often they aren't kept up for long.
-And obviously dead links.

I will no longer post links to contest/challenge communities ~~and I plan to remove the exchange communities as well~~. However, I would like to find an alternate method for advertising these. Perhaps a twitter feed? Suggestions are welcome.

RP Community Masterlist
I pruned a looooooot of dead RPs. I check for RPs that have not been posted on within three months. As stated above it's very hard for me to determine the activity of RPs hosted through social networks and ones that are set to private. I really do apologize if I removed any on accident because of that. I'm not sure how to handle this. ;x; I'm open to suggestions for that too.

Again, I'm not going to add comms hosted on facebook, dA or Gaia. They're just too hard to keep track of and check on. I tried with dA, it didn't go so well. XD; Not trying to be difficult, it's just that I don't have that much time to devote to keeping up the lists.

I also set up a redirect on the old masterlist link so it redirects to the current one. I should have done that earlier, sorry;;

I think that's it on the masterlist stuff. Any questions?

Just my two cents. I'm not that sure if removing the exchange communities is a good idea, as they do serve as a repository for many fics. It's true that these communities are pretty much dead by now, but personally, I think they're worth keeping if anything, for archiving purposes ^^'

Good point. It'd be a good idea to set aside another page for that.

You're right. I can see how that would be useful. What I'll probably do instead is crop down the links so it's just the exchange communities and not links based on which year the exchange was happening (since I missed adding them for 2011 anyway, it makes sense).

All right. I cleaned up the exchange comms. Good thing too. I noticed I had some URLS that were not quite right. oxo;; It looks much better now.

Have you thought of establishing some kind of parameter about what is active and what isn't? I was checking some links and the comms have been dead for a while.

For the RP comms, yes. Three months no activity = dead for me. That's probably longer than needed, but sometimes people try to get them rolling again.

As for non-RP comms... honestly a lot of them haven't been posted on since 2010/2011. That's pretty inactive. But I don't want to remove them in case someone is like "Oh, I remember there was a fic I liked on that comm, I want to reread it." Or sometimes there will be the odd new post added to a pairing comm. (I own the US/Japan comm, which has never been very active, but every so often someone will post some new fanwork or a doujin).

There are some others I'm a little uncertain of... like the anon and kink memes... I'm not sure how they're run, I never really go into that part of the fandom. So I'm not really sure which ones are technically still active or what.

If more people would rather I remove the comms that seem to really be dead, I can do that. It'd be less for me to keep track of, but I don't want to do that without getting feedback first.

The kink meme is active. And they have a list of active indexes... I can copy-paste them here if you want.

It's depressing to see only two actual games on Livejournal. But. o__o On the hunt for RP, myself, I can't say it's inaccurate.

But yeah, maybe a way of showing how inactive some comms are. I mean, a separate page or something would be too much, considering any comm can just revive at any time if people want it to, but,
The page itself already has a "last updated" marker, so something as simple as just a little asterisk or italicized link font could show off which regular communities have been inactive for three months, too? :> Seems fair to keep the same time gap for both lists.

I could try to do something like that, though I may increase the time limit, since posting isn't always as frequent as they are with the RP comms.

Yeah, I was surprised at how many RP comms I ended up pruning off. A lot of the specific interest sort of RPs seem to die off quickly.

Honestly, I find RP comms to move slower than any other kinds. But. I don't follow too many non-RP comms, so I might be judging the ones that are exceptions.

But yeah. I'd at least think the ones that haven't seen posts since 2010 are dead.

I guess it depends on the individual RP. I've only been involved in one Hetalia RP for the past three years and it's usually been really active. It's just this year that it's really slowed down. Everyone's been super busy, but we're hanging in there. Of course it's chat-based, not blog/forum-based (and ironically I don't have it listed fff...)

So you could be right. It's hard to judge from just a glance sometimes.

I do follow some non-RP comms though and they're slow too. Aiyaa..

This confirms what people refused to believe me about when lots of Hetalia RPs dying off! It seems that when roleplays are too specific with their plots, they suffer untimely deaths. Poor things! I am super happy about this though because now when people are looking around for active ones to join, hopefully sites will get more members that need them!

I agree with that. The more specific an RP theme was, the quicker it seemed to die off. ;x; The HP related ones were pretty much the only crossover ones that survived, but that's not so surprising with how popular HP is. XD

If it helps in any way, I've been keeping track of the communities on Tumblr (as all the previous indexes are either dead or no longer updated) so I hope that's a load off your shoulders! Still need to get off my butt and write a post about it though. XD

I wonder if it wouldn't also be useful to make a star or something by a community's name to let people know it's old, or has been updated recently? I'd love to browse new things but many of those communities haven't been updated since 2011 or 2010 even. I know that it's good for indexing, but it's still difficult to browse through.

Thanks for the input. Someone else suggested something similar, but I haven't had time just yet to go back through and fix it up. I'll try to get to it soon.

Okay, I fixed it up so outdated comms now have a gray background. I tried italics and symbols, but they still were difficult to see.

I chose a time frame of within the past year. Anything from April 2011 or prior is grayed out. That's a pretty big grace period, but eh. =x=;;
