Height Chart

I've been searching high and low for this thing, I know I've seen it somewhere. Can anyone please link me to it?

[identity profile] starrdust411.livejournal.com 2012-02-26 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know where an exact height chart is, but I know that Hetalia Archives (http://hetalia.wikinet.org/wiki/Main_Page) lists the heights for most of the characters on their profiles.

Do you mean this one (http://www.hetarchive.net/images/plog-content/thumbs/himaruya-art/character-refs/large/246-09-03-07-sincho.jpg) or the big fan-made one with all the characters? I've apparently lost the latter link, would like to find it too. :(

There is no full height chart. However there were two made with a few characters. Other characters simply had their heights listed.

Thanks for posting this up.

And I have to say, Italy looks more like an adult in this full body picture.

[identity profile] tarafishes.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
No problem.

Yeah, at his full height(whenever he appears much shorter, I imagine he's slouching--it's pretty fitting for him to slouch) he looks more his age. But still maintains the boyish cuteness he's supposed to have.

Were you looking for this (http://i.imgur.com/yt4P3.jpg), perhaps?

Personally, I disagree with a lot of these (other than the canon, of course). I'm a grown woman, and only 148 cm (4'10"ish) tall. That's TINY. Sealand is supposed to be a twelveish-year-old boy, and believe me when I say every single twelve-year-old I've met is taller than me. Hell, my nephew's gonna be nine soon, and he's almost caught up to me. I'm often mistaken for someone in grade school. I much rather prefer using the average height chart from Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height#Average_height_around_the_world), and adjusting it slightly for gender and age as necessary.

[identity profile] seatapp.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
That's the one I was thinking of earlier! :D Yesss! Thank you!

[identity profile] kitsunekon13.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The reason Sealand and Lativa are so small is because of the country, Hima made them small on purpose even with the age not being correct for his height.

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was only using Sealand as an example because he's the shortest, and us short people know our kind. XD Not that I agree with his being so tiny -- I mean, look at some of the other micronations. Seaborga, Molossia, Hutt River, they don't look tiny at all! -- but it's Word of God (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WordOfGod), so I can't complain loudly.

But look at, say, Seychelles and Liechtenstein. Both are very tiny countries and represented by young girls, but Seychelles is still bigger by area and population, yet is shown smaller on the chart. Hima's line of reasoning would fall through in that case (maybe the Seychellois are smaller than Liechtensteiners, though, I don't know, since they're not on the Wiki article of course. XD). I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm not saying Hima's wrong, I'm just saying. ^_^

Alright I see where you are coming from. And yeah it all makes sense. (I am so glad you didn't take that the wrong way. You handled that awesome.)

[identity profile] omgimsuchadork.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
(I'm also glad you didn't take what I said the wrong way. I was agonizing and trying to put that comment together very carefully. Thank you! ^_^)

[identity profile] lunalotte88.livejournal.com 2012-02-29 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised that Liechtenstein is like 10cm taller than Latvia in that chart. She should be a bit shorter than him.

I agree

me too, I feel like certain characters heights are unrealistic tbh..

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's definitely not the full thing, but I have one of the official ones here:

I hadn't seen that one before. Russia has apparently grown since the beginning of the series. I'm sure he used to be 182 cm!

[identity profile] reyechan.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
He seems to be getting taller and taller. xDD To reenforce the biggest country aspect, I suppose. Not that I mind~

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
He still is, on the wiki. I don't even.

Well.
Guess he's not the same height as Sweden anymore.

Silly DEEN.

[identity profile] sirvalkyrie.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Did America grow 2 cm? I could have sworn that him, France and England were all the same height before.

[identity profile] mizliz124.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno....I'm pretty sure America's always been taller than both of them since he reached adulthood.

Nope. That's been his height since the beginning I believe. These profiles from '08(?) list him as 177 cm. It's hard to tell though since they are all drawn roughly at the same height. XD

No, America outgrew England back in his colonial days.

ETA: Aaand I should have refreshed the page before responding. Sorry.

I've seen the anime. England is also regularly depicted being shorter than he really is.

I am wondering if maybe it comes from the conversion of centimeters to feet and inches...

[identity profile] dustbunny105.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
England is often depicted as being shorter than he's supposed to be, true, but I'd say his reaction in that scene indicates that America is supposed to be taller than him and is not just drawn like it. It still looks kind of exaggerated for a two centimeter difference, imo.

[personal profile] icelilly 2012-02-27 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow! I've never seen that before! Comparing to some of the old profiles, there doesn't seem to be much change though Japan lost a centimetre and Russia gained 4. I wonder if they're anime-only heights? (Since they use DEEN's art and all)

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It's possible.
It's a settei, so it's what the animators used as their own reference. Doesn't mean Himaruya himself had anything to do with it. xD

[personal profile] icelilly 2012-02-27 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ture, true. XD Regardless it's an interesting find! I just wonder how legit it is. I don't want to be editing wiki pages and then find out that it was fake. D: You never know in the age of the internet and Photoshop!

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
;u; It came with the official cover sheets for two packs of episodes. Plus most of the settei in the lot don't have high enough quality scans anywhere online to have been faked.

D'aww now I feel silly for not knowing that. /head desk
Those are the storyboard books right? Or do you mean they came with the DVDs? (I feel stupid for asking this question /hides)

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither, actually.

They're settei. The printouts that were handed to the animators to use for making the anime. ;u;

Technically, they're supposed to be thrown out afterward or something; they're never actually meant to be released to the public. ;u; I just happened to find a set of 83 sheets on YJ a while back and grabbed it hoping for a couple pages of Russia. :>

[personal profile] icelilly 2012-02-28 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh okay then! I feel silly for not knowing that. XD It's lucky that you grabbed them up!

Thanks a lot for your help. ;w; (And putting up with stupidity XD)

[identity profile] osoroshia.livejournal.com 2012-02-27 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say if you're editing, do something like "165cm (164cm in the anime)" and "182cm (186cm in the anime)" or such.
Both heights are still canon, in the same way Liet's eyes are green and blue. xD
icelilly: (ukraine)

[personal profile] icelilly 2012-02-27 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
That's most likely what we'll end up doing. I'll just have to remember to make some reference notes so people don't start freaking out wondering where those extra numbers came from and provoking edit wars. XD

[identity profile] lunalotte88.livejournal.com 2012-02-29 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Seeing that your icon got me thinking of Ukraine, and that Ukraine is said to be 169 cm (5' 6.5") according to wikinet (http://hetalia.wikinet.org/wiki/Ukraine), do you know where is the original source that says this (there's only one reference link on that page)?
