[Music] Hong Kong's Character Song- マジ感動☆香港Night!- English Translation

So I translated Hong Kong's Character Song, Maji Kandou ☆ Hong Kong Night!, into English! I tried my best, so please enjoy!

LO-HA-SU! (LOHAS)
Doki! Like, The smell of dim sum
Doki! It's bad, today the directions are bad
Doki! Did you already forget the foot massage?
Doki Doki! The movie of the star I adore like, started, hasn't it?
Exert yourself and it's bad for your body and the earth! LOHAS
I hope the peach buns aren't sold out yet! (Please!)

Like, one million dollars! Seriously, one million dollars!
The night you see the symphony of lights will be the best!!
Will you invite someone to the night of the town worth one million dollars?
Go fast before it closes!

Doki! The parade of the dream country is starting~
Doki Doki! I hear we have "duty-free shops" despite having no taxes
Exert yourself and it's bad for your heart and the earth! LOHAS
The panda is always on my side (Rest assured)

Seriously, give me a break, this feeling of unluckiness
"Come to think of it, isn't going on like this bad feng shui?"
Perhaps…A doomed WIIISSHH!!

Like, one million dollars! Seriously, one million dollars!
Let's go on a nighttime cruise for an emotional night~
The town with the night worth one million dollars, I'll try and play with YOU!
That's what I was thinking but I'm sleepy so I'll go to bed for the night

"Oh, what are you doing for the Chinese New Year? I'll welcome you here again~"
--
I do hope that's correct. >.< I tried my best everyone!

T/L Notes:
LOHAS: "Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) is a demographic defining a particular market segment related to sustainable living." Yeah.
--
Thanks to everyone who corrected my (horribly careless) errors! If you spot anymore, please don't hesitate to let me know!

THank you so so much :333 But *raises hand quietly* I think, but I'm not sure, "dim sum" is supposed to be "tea time"... This is amazing though :333

[identity profile] webcomix.livejournal.com 2012-02-16 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
In Hong Kong, people literally refer to getting dim sum as yum cha - "drink tea", which are the characters you posted. So yum cha IS tea time in Hong Kong, specifically the Chinese tea time. Whereas dim sum is the kind of food you'd get at yum cha.

But I know overseas people refer to the entire affair AS dim sum, so you're still correct there too.

Wow, you're fast! (and I agree with you that dim sum is probably the best translation) And you might have just missed seeing these but I think:

マジチョッ早で行かないと 朝きちゃうし・・・ would be better if you said something about morning coming for the last part
モモマン売り切れませんようにー (拜託!) momoman.. ok, I've never heard it said in english and it's probably okay as it is, but you might use the literal peach buns or chinese birthday buns? and the echo 拜託 is similar to "please!" (though nobody really says it in that context >_< or at least I've never heard it by itself)
パンダはいつも俺の味方だし (放心) The echo is just the same as in Japanese but said in Cantonese, "don't worry" or "no worries"
マジ勘弁風な ついてないこの感じ っていうか 続いてんの風水的にダメジャネ?もしかして「呪い?」I interpret this more along the lines of, (and feel free to tell me I'm wrong) "Seriously, give me a break, this feeling of unluckiness Come to think of it, isn't going on like this bad feng shui? (and I have no idea how to fit in "WISH" from "curse" so kudos to you)

Excuse my nitpicking, Hong Kong's just one of my fav charas, teki na~

Hi! I'm from Hong Kong and I speak Japanese, I hope I'm not being too forward but here are some cultural and grammar pointers (aside from "normal" japanese Hong Kong's speech pattern is a bit...young street teenager slang? ^_^;). Take them as you will! ^_^;

飲茶ができる 匂いして来た的な - We can yum cha (have dimsum), I can smell it (meaning the food)
方角 - It means "directions" but refers to feng shui, as in, this direction is bad luck, bad feng shui today.
足つぼのReserve 忘れてきたんジャネ? - The reservation for foot massage, I forgot to make it didn't I
憧れスターの映画始まっちゃう マジありえなくない?- The movie with the star I love is starting. Seriously isn't it unbelievable?
無理すると - Rather than "Exert yourself" I would suggest "Overexert yourself". 無理する is more like overdoing it, not just working hard or putting in effort, if that makes sense to you? ^_^;

The whole thing about the 1 million dollars - One of Hong Kong's attractions is the view of the night scene on of all the lights and buildings on Victoria Harbor. People have been calling it "The night view that is worth a million dollars"(百萬夜景). You can see it on the water, or people like to view it from the Peak (Victoria Peak). Like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hong_Kong_Skyline_Restitch_-_Dec_2007.jpg

Also, 「シンフォニー・オブ・ライツ」- "A Symphony of Lights"is the name of the lights and laser display on the buildings at night accompanied by music. Every night at 8pm, weather permitting. ^_^; See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Symphony_of_Lights

100万ドルの夜景の街へ 誰か誘ってみちゃう的な - Like, invite somebody to the town with the Million Dollar Night View
マジチョッ早で行かないと 朝きちゃうし・・・ - If you don't go super fast morning is gonna come...

夢の国 - Literally "Country of Dreams" but more accurately "Tha Magic Kingdom" because it refers to Disneyland. In Japanese 夢の国 is commonly the term for Disneyland, like in English it's called "The Magic Kingdom". Hong Kong has a Disneyland resort that opened not too long ago (meaning a few years), so they're talking about that.
税金ないのに「免税店」あるワケ 聞かれたし - And I was asked why we have "Duty Free" shops even though we have no sales tax

呪い - A curse

パネェ - Slang, shorten from 半端ない (はんぱない) or 半端ではない. I'm not sure what the best English word is for this, but literally it means "not by halves", as in no corners cut, extremely (good), wow, ... maybe "awesome" would be close? ^_^;

感動 - rather than just emotional, 感動 is when something is (emotionally) moving, e.g. That song was so moving. or I'm so moved by this story.
100万ドルの夜景の街で You口説いてみちゃう的な - In the town of the Million Dollar Night View, like, I might just pick you up/chat you up. 口説く(くどく)- pick up girls (by talking to them, persuading them). Chat up a girl. Or guy, depending on the preference! ^_^;

Hope this is helpful! Please take what you will however you like. Good luck with your translations! ^_-
